The Jewish Kingdom is Divided - #12
JewishHistory.org After the death of Solomon, the Kingdom splits. The southern part of Judah and Benjamin stay with Rehavam, the son of Solomon. The northern 10 tribes, including most of the territory of Israel and people, go with Yeravam ben Nevat who mounts a rebellion against the Davidic dynasty. He is originally supported by a prophet, as a punishment to the King's excess in wives, etc. However, the Temple stays in Jerusalem. Yeravam in the north builds a giant wall in order to prevent his followers from going to Jerusalem, in order that he not be embarrassed that the King be given more honor than himself. He takes this want of honor to such an extent that he converts his followers to idolatry, and has an incredibly selfish dream wherein he gives up unbelievably great honor simply because it is not the greatest honor. There ensues a competition between the two divisions of North and South, even resulting in civil war. The Jewish people essentially split into two, and the Northern 10 tribes are eventually conquered by Assyrian armies. Jeremiah restores many of the citizens of the north, and brings them into the southern territory of Judah. Due to various sins, Jerusalem itself will come under danger, and eventually be conquered by the Babylonians and Nebuchadnezzar. Therein results the exile of the entire Jewish people, with 90% going to Babylonia and 10% (including Jeremiah) to Egypt. It looks like the end to the Jewish story, but my friends, there is never really an ...

The Visit of the Queen of Sheba to King Solomon. (A Meditation)
Solomon (Hebrew: שְׁלֹמֹה, Modern Shlomo Tiberian Šəlōmō ISO 259-3 Šlomo; Arabic: سليمان Sulaymān; Greek: Σολομών Solomōn), according to the Book of Kings and the Book of Chronicles, a King of Israel and according to the Talmud one of the 48 prophets, is identified as the son of David, also called Jedidiah (Hebrew יְדִידְיָהּ) in 2 Samuel 12:25, and is described as the third king of the United Monarchy, and the final king before the northern Kingdom of Israel and the southern Kingdom of Judah split; following the split his patrilineal descendants ruled over Judah alone. The Hebrew Bible credits Solomon as the builder of the First Temple in Jerusalem, and portrays him as great in wisdom, wealth, and power, but ultimately as a king whose sin, including idolatry and turning away from Yahweh, leads to the kingdom being torn in two during the reign of his son Rehoboam. Solomon is the subject of many other later references and legends. In the Qur'an, he is a Prophet, known as Sulaiman.

The Great Apostasy
Catholic Apologist, Mr. Vic Scaravilli, shows why the Mormon theology concerning the Great Apostasy of the Roman Catholic Church is not supported by the Bible. This video is an excerpt from the course, Understanding the Bible, particularly, the section concerning the First Book of Kings. Many prophets were sent by God to preach to the divided Northern and Southern Kingdoms, which split shortly after the reign of King Solomon. The Northern Kingdom of Israel was not in favor with God, while the Southern Kingdom of Judah was. Amos was one of the prophets sent to preach repentance to the Northern Kingdom. We hope you enjoy the Video. God bless. www.catholicdigitalstudio.com Catholic Digital Studio

Do We Need a Revival?
I want to open the Word of God and answer Four Questions that I believe God wants us to ask ourselvese.
1.How Do We Deny Jesus Christ?
2.How Do We Become Vessels of Honor?
3.How Do We become Ensnared by the Devil?
4.How Do We Worship a god of our own making?
These answers that we discover are essential in answering the overall question facing us this morning – Do We Need a Revival?
When asked about which Book of the Bible most Christians would like to know more about, the answer is usually the Book of Revelation. We all have a natural curiosity about what will happen during the last days.
“Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the close of the age?”
For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are but the beginning of the birth pains. “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake. And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. Matthew 24:7-13
Jesus said this of the last days-many will fall away, there will be betrayal and hatred between brothers. There will be false prophets that lead many supposed brothers astray. Lawlessness will increase, and the love of many will wax cold.
Peter described the last days in this way:
knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.” 2 Peter 3:3-4
In the last days people will scoff at God and His Word, they will cause many to doubt the coming of Jesus Christ. They will present a god that is without power and without the ability to keep his word. In other words, man will fashion a god who is non-threatening and merely to be used as a security blanket for the old and the weak.
Before you get all curious about the Last Days, and about God's Judgment, I want you the heed the Lord's reaction when some other curious people wanted to know what a recent happening meant.
Jesus-what about...?
There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. And he answered them, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this way? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. Luke 13:1-3
These men are not signal examples of divine vengeance, as ye suppose; but every impenitent sinner -- ye yourselves, except ye repent -- shall be like monuments of the judgment of Heaven, and in a more awful sense." —Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary
Jesus wants us to realize that each of us is only a heart beat away from being a monument to the judgment of God. Either a Monument to God's Grace, or a monument that will burn for all eternity in the bowels of hell.
Jesus said no matter what happens, consider your own heart. Make sure you have repented. See if there is a need for repentance. In the fine print Jesus says “Never take your salvation for granted!” I believe in eternal security. But I would never never assume that God owes me anything. I am nothing without Jesus Christ. Any boldness I have is solely because I am hid in Jesus Christ. But one thing Jesus wants us to know-our hearts are evil and so deceptive. We can be fooled so easily into thinking we are OK, even better than most of the folk around us simply because we prayed some prayer 20 or 30 years ago. Well if that prayer of salvation did so much for you why haven't you told someone about it? If what you did was so life transforming, why are you afraid to tell even your good friend or a sister about what Jesus did for your life?
If President Obama was coming to your house to discuss health care with you and a few select friends, you would not hesitate to start calling so and so. Well, Jesus is coming very soon and you are afraid to tell those you love about it!
I'm afraid that too many of us are trusting in what we once did instead of repenting daily of our cold, careless hearts. There is a judgment coming for ALL mankind and we are just curios lookie Lou's wanting to figure out who the antichrist is. If you want to know who the antichrist is, try looking around you. John says that there are many antichrists among us, in fact they begin as Christians sitting with you at church:
Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us,

Watchman for the Weak and Hurting
BECOMING A GOOD SAMARITAN: WATCHMAN FOR THE HURTING
COMING ALONGSIDE THOSE WHO SUFFER.
This morning we are going to tackle a big subject. The Good Samaritan gave us an example of caring for the Weak and the Powerless, even when they are strangers. This morning I want us to look at our responsibilities when it comes to those in the world who are hurting because of disease and sickness.
Jesus twice sent out his disciples with very clear and concise instructions. Those same instructions apply to us as His servants:
Matthew 10:8 - Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.
Luke 10:8-9 -"When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is set before you. Heal the sick who are there and tell them, 'The kingdom of God is near you.'
HEAL: THERAPEÚŌ - attendant, servant. To voluntarily wait upon, minister to, render service, heal. Pictures the physician's watchful attendance of the sick and man's service to God. Therapeuo means to serve as therápōn.
Therápōn-denotes a faithful friend to a superior, who solicitously regards the superior's interest or looks after his affairs, not a common or domestic servant.
Therápōn approaches more closely the position of oikonómos, manager, in God's house.
One who heals the sick is a friend who closely watches over one he considers his superior. One who heals the sick is actually functioning as a manager in God's house!
The reason this is so important is the actual meaning of the sick that Christ sent them out to minister to.
SICK: ASTHENÉS: "Without strength, powerless, weak, without physical ability. By implication, meaning afflicted, distressed by oppression, calamity. In a moral sense, wretched, diseased, i.e., in a state of sin and wretchedness .
Our attitude toward sickness and disease reveals the state of our heart-whether we are fit to be managers in God's House!
THE ROLE OF THE “WATCHMAN”
Ezekiel explains the Code of the Watchman. God sets some people up as Watchmen over His people. They are to warn the people of impending danger.
1 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, speak to your people and say to them, If I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from among them, and make him their watchman, 3 and if he sees the sword coming upon the land and blows the trumpet and warns the people, 4 then if anyone who hears the sound of the trumpet does not take warning, and the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. 5 He heard the sound of the trumpet and did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But if he had taken warning, he would have saved his life. 6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand. “So you, son of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. Ezekiel 33:1-7
Now at this time both the Northern and Southern Kingdoms of Israel and Judah had already been taken into captivity. Both nations had gone on a massive sinning spree - worshiping false gods and graven images and turning their back on their one true God time and time again.
Isaiah had prophesied over 100 years earlier, to the Nation of Judah who had witnessed their brothers to the North taken by the Assyrians. They thought they wouldn't be captured because THEY were so religious, beloved by Jehovah. They were proud of their "RELIGIOUSNESS" and wondered why they were having trouble with the Assyrians too! They were trying everything to win God's favor and support. They were even fasting. But here is what Isaiah said:
ISAIAH 58:3-12
3 “Why have we fasted, but You have not seen? We have denied ourselves, but You haven’t noticed!” “Look, you do as you please on the day of your fast, and oppress all your workers. 4 You fast ⌊with⌋ contention and strife to strike viciously with ⌊your⌋ fist. You cannot fast as ⌊you do⌋ today, ⌊hoping⌋ to make your voice heard on high. 5 Will the fast I choose be like this: A day for a person to deny himself, to bow his head like a reed, and to spread out sackcloth and ashes? Will you call this a fast and a day acceptable to the Lord? 6 Isn’t the fast I choose: To break the chains of wickedness, to untie the ropes of the yoke, to set the oppressed free, and to tear off every yoke? 7 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, to bring the poor and homeless into your house, to clothe the naked when you see him, and not to ignore your own flesh ⌊and blood⌋? 8 Then your light will appear like the dawn, and your recovery will come quickly. Your righteousness will go before you, and the Lord’s glory will be your rear guard. 9 At that time, when you call, the Lord will

Ai Ai Ai Have We Got Troubles!
Ay, ay, ay, ay canta y no llores Porque cantando se alegran, Cielito Lindo, los corazones
Ay, ay, ay, ay sing and don't cry because singing will make happy, heavenly pretty, the hearts
Believe me, when Joshua first heard about what happened at AI, he sang a different song:
AI AI AI AI, man we’ve got troubles! No pretty sky no singing wives will fill our heart with joy.
Not to make light of what happened at AI, but I find it interesting that there is a line of women’s designer clothes named after the city.
Ai Ai Gasa
is a Brooklyn-based clothing line cut from recycled umbrellas. Found, plucked, stripped, washed, cut and styled. We love, love umbrellas, especially when they are re-fashioned into puff-a-lump forms. Rain or shine.
Well, when Joshua heard the report of the defeat at AI, he probably felt as if he had been plucked, stripped, washed and cut. The wound went deep into his soul.
Joshua’s Reaction to Defeat
Joshua 7:6 (ESV) Then Joshua tore his clothes and fell to the earth on his face before the ark of the Lord until the evening, he and the elders of Israel. And they put dust on their heads.
AI only 12 Miles From Jericho
From the great victory of Jericho it was only a twelve mile journey for Israel to find defeat at AI. It was a stronghold of the ungodly Amorites. The scenery is beautiful, with mountains nearby. It was between AI and Bethel that Abraham pitched his tent and offered sacrifices to Jehovah God. Now it was a city full of debauchery, witchcraft and idol worship.
What happened? Israel did a māʿal maʿal.
Specifically Achan did a maal maal. Ezekiel 18:24 explains the maal maal principle:
Ezekiel 18:24 (KJV) But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, (maal maal) and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
In almost all the biblical references māʿal is used to designate the breaking or violation of religious law as a conscious act of treachery. The victim against whom the breach is perpetrated is God.—TWOT
Achan deliberately broke faith with God,
but the Joshua 7:1 indicates that when one is allowed to do it, they all shared in the breakage of faith.
Joshua 7:1 (RSV&ESV;) But the people of Israel broke faith in regard to the devoted things; for Achan the son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of the devoted things; and the anger of the LORD burned against the people of Israel. .
ACHAN SINNED
Now we have all heard how Achan sinned. He got hooked by something he saw. Some beautiful garment caught his eye. It got him to thinking and desiring, and then he saw some silver and gold. So he took it.
Sin always has a hook.
Sin always has something to grab you with. With Achan the hook was how great he would look wearing the forbidden garment. With Eve it was how great the forbidden fruit would taste. With David it was how tantilizing it would feel to be with such a beautiful woman. With Esau it was how great the stew would taste when he was so famished.
There is always a Hook that Sin grabs us with. Successful salemen look for something that will hook you. They watch your face to see how you react to different spiels. Drug dealers try to hook young people with freebies.
Satan wants to hook us and lead us to make that decision to break faith. Achan did just that, but the Word of God says THAT ALL ISRAEL BROKE FAITH.
We will realize that Israel was complicit in Achan’s sin when we analyze the reason they suffered the defeat at AI. God’s anger waxed hot, because He saw something in Israel that was going to cause problems down the road. They needed to learn a collective lesson if the Nation of Israel was going to KEEP THE FAITH.
The victory at Jericho was fresh on the people’s minds as Joshua, being a good general, sent men to spy out the next strong city. But what is not mentioned is whether Joshua was in communication with the Captain of the Hosts as he was at Jericho. I believe the results indicate that he was not.
The spies reported that Ai would be an easy prize. Three thousand men would be more than enough to take this small village. Any more would be a waste of manpower. No problem they reported to Joshua.
The problem is that Joshua listened to his spies instead of listening to the Captain of the Host.
Instead of Joshua going to the Captain and requesting new orders, and saying AI AI Captain, he listened to his spies, and as a result ended up shouting AI AI AI Have We Got Trouble!
WHO YOU SAY AI AI TO OFTEN DETERMINES THE MESS YOU FIND YOURSELF IN.
I did not get my driver’s license until I was almost 17. It was February 1970, and I was driving my aunts 1959 Oldsmobile. My Dad had let me drive it to a Forensics tournament. On the way home the guys who were with me suggested stopping and get

The Book of Jeremiah 6 10
Jeremiah 1998 The Book of Jeremiah, or Jeremiah (יִרְמְיָהוּ Yirməyāhū in Hebrew), is part of the Hebrew Bible, Judaism's Tanakh, and later became a part of Christianity's Old Testament. It was originally written in a complex and poetic Hebrew (apart from verse 10:11, curiously written in Biblical Aramaic), recording the words and events surrounding the life of the Jewish prophet Jeremiah who lived at the time of the destruction of Solomon's Temple (587/6 BC) in Jerusalem during the fall of the Kingdom of Judah at the hands of Babylonia. The young Jeremiah grows up in a priest's family in the village of Anathoth, near Jerusalem. God appears to Jeremiah in different human guises on several occasions, and makes it clear to him that he has been selected to announce God's message to the people of Jerusalem: a mighty ruler from the north will attack the Kingdom of Judah if the people there continue to worship false idols, and fail to remember the One God. No-one in Anathoth believes Jeremiah's prophecy, however. Instead, he is accused of blasphemy and is physically attacked - and not even his family comes to his aid. Nevertheless, with the help of Baruch, a temple scribe who hears Jeremiah's first sermon and becomes his disciple, Jeremiah succeeds in announcing the word of God. The prophet's message of impending doom incurs only the wrath and rejection of the ruling classes, the priesthood and the King.
