Carpathian Ruthenia/ Rusynsko/ Рутенія
Rusyns formed two ephemeral states after World War I: the Lemko-Rusyn Republic and Komancza Republic. Prior to this time, some of the founders of the Lemko-Rusyn Republic were sentenced to death or imprisoned in Talerhof by the prosecuting attorney Kost Levytsky (Ukrainian: Кость Леви́цький), future president of the West Ukrainian National Republic. In the interwar period, the Rusyn diaspora in Czechoslovakia enjoyed liberal conditions to develop their culture (in comparison to Ukrainians in Poland or Romania). The Republic of Carpatho-Ukraine, which existed for one day on March 15, 1939, before it was occupied by Hungarian troops, is sometimes considered to have been a self-determining Rusyn state that had intentions to unite with Kiev.[citation needed] The Republic's president, Avgustyn Voloshyn, was an advocate of writing in Rusyn. The Rusyns have always been subject to larger neighbouring powers, such as Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Slovakia, Poland, the Soviet Union, Ukraine, and Russia. In contrast to the modern Ukrainian national movement that united Western Ukrainians with those in the rest of Ukraine, the Rusyn national movement took two forms: one considered Rusyns a separate East Slavic nation, while the other was based on the concept of fraternal unity with Russians. Most of the predecessors of the Eastern Slavic inhabitants of present-day Western Ukraine, as well as of Western Belarus, referred to themselves as Ruthenians (Rusyns) (Ukrainian: Русини, translit ...

Independent Carpathian Ruthenia.
On October 25, 2008, 100 delegates to the Congress Of Carpathian Ruthenians declared the formation of the Republic of Carpathian Ruthenia. The Ukrainian nationalist Svoboda Party responded by releasing the following statement: "Zakarpattian separatists led by Moscow Patriarchate priest Sidor are issuing an ultimatum to the Ukrainian authorities today. Tomorrow, armed with Russian passports and money from the Kremlin, they will implement the Georgian scenario in Ukraine." The party called on President Viktor Yuschenko and Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko to issue a political assessment of the actions in Zakarpattia and Crimea, called on the National Security and Defense Council to draft a plan to restrict separatist actions, and called on the Foreign Affairs Ministry to declare all the citizens that participated in the October 25 congress as persona non grata in Ukraine

Carpathian Ruthenia
In Ukraine, where the largest number of Rusyns live, the current government continues the Communist practice of denying Rusyn identity. The Ukrainian government recently listed more than 100 ethnic minorities in its new constitution. Rusyns were not among them. The official position in Ukraine remains that Rusyns were, are and will be Ukrainians. Up your heads,Ruthians over the Wold! God is with us...

Carpath Ruthenia,Rusyn state/three days of independence.
Carpatho-Ukraine was an autonomous region within Czechoslovakia from late 1938 to March 15, 1939. It declared itself an independent Ukrainian republic on March 15, 1939, but was occupied by Hungary between March 15 and March 18, 1939, remaining under Hungarian control until the Nazi Occupation of Hungary in 1944.Soon after the implementation of the Munich Agreement of 29 September 1938 (by which Czechoslovakia lost much of its border region to Nazi Germany) Carpathian Ruthenia and Slovakia declared their autonomy within Czechoslovakia, which Prague accepted. The autonomous Carpathian Ruthenia (officially known as Subcarpathian Ruthenia until then) changed its name to "Carpatho-Ukraine" soon afterwards, in November 1938.In November 1938, under the First Vienna Award, which resulted from the Munich agreement, Nazi Germany and Italy prevailed on Czechoslovakia to cede the southern third of Slovakia and southern Carpatho-Ukraine to Hungary.Slovak and Ruthenian demands for independence grew after Czechoslovakia's central government was forced to give up Sudetenland to Germany according to the Munich agreement of September 29, 1938. Republic of Carpatho-Ukraine: Carpatho-Ukraine (Ukrainian: Karpats'ka Ukrayina) was a short-lived Ukrainian state that formally existed for only several days in March. The state was in the easternmost part of Czechoslovakia (Subcarpathian Ruthenia, or Transcarpathia), and had been an autonomous region within Czechoslovakia for several months before ...

Гимн Карпатской Руте́нии Kapaoke Anthem of Carpathian Ruthenia

Ukrainian Carpathians - Krasna massif
Krasna massif is situated in the heart of Transcarpathia. It includes Polonyna Krasna and Uholsko-Shyrokoluzhanskyi massif. Polonyna Krasna, was the most beautiful mountain pasture of Subcarpathian Ruthenia (nowadays Transcarpathia) during the interwar period. It belongs to the Northeastern Carpathians and its main ridge is about 35 km long. The highest peak of Polonyna Krasna is called Syhlianskyi. The most significant part of Krasna massif is the largest virgin beech forest of Europe with a total area of more than 10 000 ha . Uholka-Shyrokyi Luh virgin beech forest is the most valuable asset of Primeval beech forests of the Carpathians - a transnational UNESCO's World Natural Heritage. Krasna massif is a real hidden treasure and can be proudly considered as the Pearl of the Carpathians.

Czechoslovakia or Czecho-Slovakia[1] (Czech and Slovak: Československo, Česko-Slovensko[2]) was a sovereign state in Central Europe which existed from October 1918, when it declared its independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, until 1992. From 1939 to 1945 the state did not de facto exist due to its forced division and partial incorporation into Nazi Germany, but the Czechoslovak government-in-exile nevertheless continued to exist during this period. In 1945 the eastern part of Carpathian Ruthenia was taken over by the Soviet Union. On 1 January 1993, Czechoslovakia peacefully split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Spring Sheep Herder's Parade in Dubove, Ukraine
An annual tradition in many Carpathian villages, the Spring Sheepherder's Parade marks the beginning of the herding season on the Polonyni (mountain pastures). This parade took place in the town of Дубове (Doo-bo-vey) in the Tyachiv region of Transcarpathia, Ukraine on May 23rd, 2009. Here, several musical ensembles are carried through the village on horse carts from the House of Culture to the stadium, where a stage had been erected. The first band seen in the video is the Маньо "Manyo" band (aka the Técső Band) from Tyachiv, Ukraine.

Sága krásy - Folklore trio. Harkot sisters from Snina. Eastern Slovakia.
Lemkos - Rusyns (sometimes spelled Rusins, or called Carpatho-Rusyns signifying their villages being in the Carpathian Mountains) are one of the many nationalities/ethnic groups of Slovakia, along with Slovaks, Hungarians, Germans, and Romanies (Gypsies). Rusyns are eastern Slavs, which means that their history, culture, and language are rooted in the medieval Kievan Rus' kingdom (Slovaks, by contrast, are western Slavs), although Slovaks and Rusyns have lived together on the same territory for nearly 1000 years (and share some cultural traits). Traditionally, almost all Rusyns belong to the Byzantine/Greek Catholic or Orthodox Christian churches. Rusyns have never had their own country, but their homeland today lies in 3 countries: Slovakia, Ukraine (the Transcarpathian Oblast, former Subcarpathian Rus/Ruthenia, part of Czecho-Slovakia from 1919 until 1939), and Poland (the Lemko Region, formerly part of Galicia). There are approximately 1.5 million Rusyns in Europe today, and about 120000 of them are in Slovakia.
