GLOBALMAXIM: SOMALIA - 1st 100 DAYS of TRANSITIONAL FEDERAL GOVERNMENT (AU-UNIST)
GLOBALMAXIM: 11 March 2011 -- AU-UNIST: MOGADISHU, SOMALIA - Hundreds of Somalis recently rallied in support of the Government in the streets of Somalia's Capital Mogadishu; despite 32 per cent of Somalis being in desperate need of relief aid as a result of drought and two decades of conflict, there are some signs of improvement in the daily lives of this troubled African nation's population. Two decades after the Somali Civil War broke out and the subsequent collapse of the federal government, the Transitional Federal Government (TFG), formed in 2004, recently completed the first 100 days in office since the appointment of a new streamlined cabinet. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Abdullahi Omaar pointed out some of the achievements and the Government's priorities, which include security, rebuilding state institutions, developing a constitutional frame work and service delivery. He explained that each ministry has been set targets and time frames and the TFG is confident it can build on what's been achieved so far. SOUNDBITE (English) Mohamed Abdullahi Omaar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia: "First and foremost is security and the issue of containing and reversing extremism. Number two is actually rebuilding the institutions of the state, the legal and judicial, parliamentary, executive ministries. Secondly to establish a federal constitutional frame work so that all parts of Somalia, from the north to the south, agree on a new federal structure that is ...

Kenya seeks answers over TFG's new stand
www.ntv.co.ke Somalia's Transitional Federal Government President Sheikh Shariff Sheikh's comments where he expressed dissatisfaction with Kenya's military operation are causing disquiet hundreds of kilometres away from the frontline. Internal Security Minister Prof. George Saitoti has asked the TFG to clarify its statement, saying that the TFG knows and agreed with Kenya's military operation in Somalia. But as John-Allan Namu reports, the Somali leaders' statement may appear to be causing ripples in Nairobi, but it's having no effect on the ground.

Somali urges international community to help in rebuilding efforts
www.ntv.co.ke The back of the Al Shabaab militant group is far from broken even with Operation Linda Nchi underway, but Somalia's Transitional Federal Government Prime Minister Abdiwale Mohammed Ali says he can see the finish line, not just of the operation, but for 22 years of instability in Somalia. Abdiwale is now appealing for support from the international community to help in rebuilding the war torn country. John-Allan Namu reports.

AMISOM SUPPLIES VEHICLES TO SOMALI GOVERNMENT-WAAGACUSUB TV
AMISOM has donated three vehicles on behalf of the African Union to the Transitional Federal Government as part of its ongoing mission to stabilise Somalia. In a ceremony at Mogadishu Airport this morning, AMISOM Force Commander, Major General Nathan Mugisha, handed over two Land Rovers, one Toyota Pick-up and three Yamaha motorcycles to TFG Prime Minister, Dr Abdiweli Mohamed Ali. The vehicles will be used by Somalia's Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry and Range to assist with disease control and food security programmes. Maj Gen Mugisha said: "We have the honour to hand over these vehicles which were donated by the African Union to the Transitional Federal Government...we hope this humble contribution will help you reach out to farmers and provide extension services at this critical time." The support is in line with AMISOM mandate that seeks to enhance the capacity of TFG to deliver services to its people. The support also comes at a time when Somalia is badly hit by severe drought and famine. The Civil Military Cooperation Officer, LtCol Katwekyeire Kamurari, said: "This will go a long way in helping the Ministry of Agriculture to reach out to farmers at this critical time." After the handover ceremony, Dr Ali visited the AMISOM Field Hospital to meet Somali patients being treated by AMISOM doctors

Frost over the World - Dahir Gelle, Somalia's information minister
Somalia has not had a functioning central government for 19 years and the Islamist rebel group al-Shabab now controls large swathes of the country and is threatening Mogadishu, the capital. In the midst of this internal conflict, Somali pirates continue to prey on international shipping. Dahir Gelle, the country's information minister, tells Sir David what the transitional federal government is doing to fight the insurgents. Plus, German historian Heike Goertemaker challenges the commonly held view amongst historians that Eva Braun, the mistress and eventually the wife of Adolf Hitler, was an insignificant figure, bypassed by and unaware of the horrors of the Third Reich. She joins the show to discuss her book, 'Eva Braun - Life with Hitler'.
