Hear Us | Voices of Oglala Lakota Women for Badlands National Park
Badlands National Park's South Unit has always belong to the Oglala Lakota nation as a part of Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. However, the US government confiscated the land to establish the Badlands Aerial Gunnery Range for bombing practice as a part of war effort in 1942. Later, the land was returned to the tribe as government-held trust land under the management of Badlands National Park. Almost 70 years later today, the park has proposed a new management plan that suggests seven management options, ranging from continuing current management to transferring the land and management back to the tribal government. In this video, Oglala Lakota women share their view points and discuss best management options for well-being of their nation and how we can support this process.

2011 SWAIA Indian Market: Oglala Lakota Bead Artist Emil Her Many Horses
Oglala Lakota bead and quill artist Emil Her Many Horses began his artistic career when he was in junior high school. He learned from tribal ladies who were patient with him and recognized that his bead lines were probably better than theirs. Emil is also a curator at NMAI (National Museum of the American Indian) in Washington, DC by day. This year, Paul Niemi of unclepauliesworld.blogspot had the opportunity to speak with him at the 2011 SWAIA Indian Market about his submission piece which was a phonograph with a hand-beaded horn in the Woodland Sioux floral style.

Toxic Tresspass of Lakota Nation - March 5, 2012 - Oglala Lakota Nation
Lakota community stop an illegal mega-load caravan in the Eagle Nest District of the sovereign Pine Ridge Indian Reservation/Oglala Lakota Nation. Two semi-trucks, 229155 pound, extra wide oil treater vessel cargo worth $1259593 each, were stopped for several hours in the town of Wanblee, South Dakota. The peaceful blockade ended when the Oglala Sioux Tribal police worried about shirft change, violated direct orders from the tribal vice-president on hand and turned out in their riot gear to arrest five individuals with disorderly conduct in tribal court, one young warrior, two elders and two of whom were serving as press and media. The tribal Attorney General never gave the all clear for the tresspassing TransCanada bound mega-load to be escourted safe passage to the State Troopers waiting at the Reservation boarder. The truck drivers said two more loads were delayed behind this initial load and this route was authorized to them by the State of South Dakota, TransCanada and their trucking companies hauling supplies for the Keystone XL Pipeline and Tar Sands operations in Canada. The truckers thanked us for hot mashed potatoes, hot chicken and home made bread. Said we can come to their house for thanksgiving, their not too sure if they want to come back to ours? Their words, not mine. - This is a Native Impact production. 2012 Native.Impact@gmail.com God Bless the Lakota Nation & Grandma Marie Randall

Oglala Lakota Nation Public Safety Services - Student Driver(s)
Our tax dollars being drug through the ditch towards the end of this video complete with distruction of community road signs - Wanblee, South Dakota - March 5, 2012 - The police on hand seem to know little about scene safety, or tribal law. There were little children playing in the grass along the road all day long, elders posted up here and there and yet even the top brass rolled in without reguard to potential dangers to the community. The top brass was down east of George Town Housing drinking red bulls and coffee with their State Trooper comrads. Even if your four hours late to the actual scene of the community stand, you don't have to show off for Grandma Marie, you just have to do your jobs. Enforce tribal law, confiscate the tresspassing TransCanada trucks until the Tribal Attorney Genreral can make a determination for legal passage.

Car Giveaway at the 2008 Oglala Lakota Nation Pow Wow
I got RapidMotors from Rapid City, South Dakota to donate a used 1992 Ford Explorer 4X4 to our Pow Wow Committee. Although we only printed 2000 tickets or so, it was still pretty popular. The Revenue Office, thank you very much, took care of the ticket sales, and they let me announce the winner. The girl hitch hiked from North Dakota, won the car, and then won 1st place in her category.
