The Cuban Revolution CIA Archives Documentary History (1960)
The Cuban Revolution was a successful armed revolt by Fidel Castro's 26th of July Movement, which overthrew the US-backed Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista on 1 January 1959, after over five years of struggle. "Our revolution is endangering all American possessions in Latin America. We are telling these countries to make their own revolution." — Che Guevara, October 1962 Castro later travelled to the United States to explain his revolution. He said, "I know what the world thinks of us, we are Communists, and of course I have said very clearly that we are not Communists; very clearly." Hundreds of suspected Batista-era agents, policemen and soldiers were put on public trial for human rights abuses and war crimes, including murder and torture. Most of those convicted in revolutionary tribunals of political crimes were executed by firing squad, and the rest received long prison sentences. One of the most notorious examples of revolutionary justice was the execution of over 70 captured Batista regime soldiers, directed by Raúl Castro after the capture of Santiago. For his part in Havana, Che Guevara was appointed supreme prosecutor in La Cabaña Fortress. This was part of a large-scale attempt by Fidel Castro to cleanse the security forces of Batista loyalists and potential opponents of the new revolutionary regime. Others were fortunate enough to be dismissed from the army and police without prosecution, and some high-ranking officials in the ancien régime were exiled as ...

The True Story of Che Guevara - The Documentary
Argentinian doctor; joined Castro in Mexico in 1954; a leader of the 1956-59 Cuban Revolution. Che served as president of Cuba's national bank and as Cuba's minister of industry in the period immediately following the Cuban Revolution. Towards the end of his formal affiliation with the Cuban government, Che came to implicitly criticize Soviet bureacracy. His positions put him at odds with the party line of the Cuban CP. In 1965, Che realized that the defence of the Cuban revolution and the creation of revolutions abroad were naturally not always in sync, and this ultimately led to his resignation and his return to revolutionary work abroad. During Che's subsequent revolutionary campaigns, he wrote his Message to the Tricontinental (1967) in which he openly criticized the Soviet Union; claiming that the Northern hemisphere of the world, both the Soviet Union and the US, exploited the Southern hemisphere of the world. He strongly supported the Vietnamese Revolution, and urged his comrades in South America to create "many vietnams". In 1965 Che left Cuba to set up guerrilla forces first in the Congo and then later in Bolivia, where he was ultimately captured and killed in October 1967. Accounts of his execution have varied over the years, but many contemprary accounts indicate some degree of collaboration between Bolivia's government troops and the United States CIA. Guevara developed a theory of primacy of military struggle, in particular concept of guerilla foquismo. Many ...

History in 60 Seconds - Cuban Revolution
My first of a potential series, assuming I have time to regularly update. Hope this entertains and educates. EDUTAINMENT TO THE MAX. Here's a transcript in case you don't understand me and want to learn! "In 1952,former Cuban President Fulgencio Batista, ran for re-election but instead of waiting for the votes to be counted, decided to just stage a military coup. During his first presidency in 1940, he was progressive and passed social reforms, but during his 2nd presidency he was a military tyrant who installed a police state, executed thousands of political opponents, allowed the American Mafia to build casinos all over Havana, and was a pawn of US businesses, all the while the Cuban people lived in poverty. Then came this dude named Fidel Castro, who came from a prosperous family, went to private schools, and then studied law at the University of Havana. He became heavily involved in reform movements and was accused of a couple political assassinations but never proven guilty. DUN DUN DUNNNN. On July 26, 1953, Castro and around 100 rebels attacked the Moncada Barracks hoping to cause an uprising. It failed horribly, half the rebels got killed and Fidel got captured. There were many protests to free Castro and Batista hoped to gain favor with the people by releasing him. Stupid! Castro fled to Mexico to rebuild and reorganize. There he met up with Che Guevara and they formed the July 26 Movement. In 1956, they made it back into Cuba and setup basecamp in the Sierra ...

Fidel Castro Kicks US Interests Out of Cuba
TO BUY THE DVD go here: firstrunfeatures.com IN THIS SCENE: Fidel's first priority in leading the Cuban Revolution is to sign the Agrarian Reform Act. ABOUT THIS FILM: Whether dismissed as a relic or revered as a savior, many agree that Fidel Castro is one of the most influential and controversial figures of our time. Rarely are Americans given a chance to see inside the world of this socialist leader. The documentary Fidel offers a unique opportunity to view the man through exclusive interviews with Castro himself, historians, public figures and close friends, with rare footage from the Cuban State archives. Museo De La Revolution, Cuba - Revolution Museum in Havana
Tour around the Museo De La Revolution, Havana, Cuba. The Museum of the Revolution (Museo de la Revolución) is a museum located in the Old Havana section of Havana, Cuba. The museum is housed in what was the Presidential Palace of all Cuban presidents from Mario García Menocal to Fulgencio Batista. It became the Museum of the Revolution during the years following the Cuban revolution. The museum's Cuban history exhibits are largely devoted to the period of the revolutionary war of the 1950s and to the country's post-1959 history. Portions of the museum are also devoted to pre-revolutionary Cuba, including its War of Independence waged against Spain. Behind the building lies the Granma Memorial, a large glass enclosure which houses the Granma, the yacht which took Fidel Castro and his revolutionaries from Mexico to Cuba for the revolution. Around the Granma an SA-2 Guideline surface-to-air missile of the type that shot down a US Lockheed U-2 spyplane during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the engine of the U-2 airplane is displayed. There are also various vehicles and tanks used in the revolution displayed. Near the museum is located an SU-100, a Soviet tank destroyer.
