Hugh Pym (born 1959) is a British journalist and author. He is an instantly recognisable figure, standing at 6 ft 7 in (2.01 m) tall.

Pym was educated at Marlborough College, followed by Christ Church, Oxford, graduating with a degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics in 1981.

Life and career[link]

A financial and political journalist now working for the BBC, Pym was a BBC radio journalist from 1986 to 1987, then producer of Business Daily at Channel 4, 1987–1988, correspondent with ITN, 1988–1998, and a freelance broadcaster with Sky Television in 1999-2000. He was a BBC special correspondent covering Economics until 2008, when he took on the role of acting Economics Editor during the maternity leave of Stephanie Flanders. Following her return, he became the BBC's Chief Economics Correspondent, a newly created role.

Pym has published two books: What Happened? And Other Questions About the Credit Crunch (co-author with Nick Kochan), A Study Of Gordon Brown's First Year in Office as Chancellor of the Exchequer (also co-written with Nick Kochan). In the 2001 General election Pym stood as Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate in the North Wiltshire constituency.

Pym is married with three children.

He also performed the first ever live television broadcast from a submarine, for a story on the Loch Ness Monster.

Simon Jack (born 1 April 1971) is a British business journalist and correspondent for the BBC, known for appearing on BBC Breakfast until September 2011. He currently appears on BBC Radio 4's Today Programme.^[1]

Simon Jack attended Merchant Taylors' School, Crosby and graduated from St John's College, Oxford with a BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics.^[2]

Career[link]

Before entering journalism, Jack worked for a decade as a corporate and investment banker in London, New York and Bermuda. In 2003 he joined the BBC's business and economics unit and since then has worked on BBC Radio 4's Today Programme and Radio 5 Live's Wake Up to Money. He has also presented business and financial podcasts for the Daily Telegraph.^{[citation needed]}

Jack was frequently seen on British television during the fortnight beginning on 7 September 2008 during which he reported for BBC News, the BBC News Channel and Working Lunch on the banking crisis that saw the Federal takeover of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the Bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers, the bailout of AIG and the Lloyds TSB takeover of HBOS. He was often seen reporting from the London Stock Exchange, Canary Wharf and outside the offices of HBOS and Lehman Brothers in London.^{[citation needed]}

Jack replaced Declan Curry as business presenter for BBC Breakfast in October 2008. In April 2010, he presented BBC Breakfast alongside Sian Williams while regular presenter Bill Turnbull followed the 2010 general election campaign trail. In September 2011, he left the BBC Breakfast team to join BBC Radio 4's Today.

Personal life[link]

Jack lives in London and supports Liverpool FC. He is married to Suzanne, eldest daughter of the late composer John Barry.^[3]
