Greg Errico (born September 1, 1948,) is an American musician and record producer, best known for being the drummer for the popular and influential psychedelic soul/funk band, Sly and the Family Stone. Errico, who was born in San Francisco, California, was the original drummer for the band, and the first to quit it in 1971 because of the band's continuing turmoil.
Errico toured with jazz-fusion group Weather Report in 1973, but never recorded with the group. His playing can be heard on live recordings hosted at the website Wolfgang's Vault. Joe Zawinul said that no one could play his tune "Boogie Woogie Waltz" better than Errico had.
Errico joined the David Bowie band for his Diamond Dogs 1974 tour of the US during September 1974.
Errico later collaborated with bands such as Santana, and the Grateful Dead. In the early 1980s, he was the drummer of the Jerry Garcia Band. He also worked with Larry Graham from Sly & The Family Stone, plus members of the Tower of Power horns, Journey and the Pointer Sisters on an album for Betty Davis.
Greg Errico sits in whenever Dumpstaphunk is in the Bay Area. Here he is at the Independent, S.F. at the Outside Lands closing party. Greg normally plays Drum Workshop drums, but here he's playing my Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute kit with Nikki Glaspie's Zildian cymbals.
Greg and his band, Sly & the Family Stone, had the opportunity to perform on primetime television in 1968 on the Ed Sullivan Show! When someone performed on the Ed Sullivan Show in the golden age of television, the whole word took notice!

Small talk about Sly (part14) with original members of SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE - Greg Errico & Jerry Martini recall the early days of the bands formation. Small talk about Sly is a documentary film/podcast series on Sly Stone from the band Sly and the Family Stone from the point of view of fascinating people who wanted to show up to help tell the story. It is a biography of Sly Stone as well as a look at the sixties in America. To make a film about Sly and the Family Stone is to tell a part of the history of The United States in the 1960's. Sly earned his place in music history with songs like Everyday People, Dance to the Music, Sing a Simple Song, I wanna take you higher, Thank you for talking to me Africa, Loose Booty, Family Affair, In Time, If You Want me to Stay to name a few. ...

This recording is (apparently) from August 24th, 1973, Chateauvallon. The main point of interest here is the band's drummer on this gig - Greg Errico of Sly & The Family Stone fame. According to Zawinul (as quoted in Brian Glasser's book), Errico "was the finest 3/4 drummer the band ever had". Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter, Miroslav Vitous and Don Um Romao complete the lineup.

this rare Sly Stone set features an opening number by the vocal backing group Little Sister including his youngest sister Vaetta Stewart. Sly was in the process of promoting "Fresh" his 7th consecutive gold album, featuring the single "If You Want Me To Stay" performed here at the end of this clip, live on national TV for the first time. Recorded exclusively for video cameras at the Metromedia Square studios on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood during September of 1973, these songs aired as part of the third episode of a popular nationally syndicated rock concert TV program, the first episode to be produced entirely within the Metromedia production facility in Hollywood. Despite high demand. this archival footage has yet to be formally reissued. This footage was given to me on a privately...

Where did it go? The storm of love
Thunder of flesh, hurricane of blood
Hail of sweat, the cleansing rain
It used to come and lick the pain
Fingers search, the private space
Promise fills your face
Treasure chest, a beautiful back
Kiss every crack
Sit around the fame, crack
Slowly I became, crack
I'll do it, I'll do [Incomprehensible]
Anything you tell me to
Stick it on or stick it through
Anything you want me to
Any ship, put through
Any port I'm coming to
Anything you tell me to
Anything you tell me to
[Incomprehensible]

Hail of sweat, the cleansing rain
It used to come and lick the pain
Sit around the fame, crack
