BG Group leads FTSE lower - IG's Afternoon Market Headlines 31.10.12
The comments in this video do not constitute investment advice and IG accepts no responsibility for any use that may be made of them. Latest financial market news: (all times are London time) • FTSE drops back to 5800 level as US markets return to the fray. Early rally has fizzled as caution takes hold in the post Sandy environment. • Also not helping -- Chicago PMI, comes in at 49.9 for October, below the 51 figure expected. • Banks all turn lower, following Barclays results -- fear that additional PPI costs replicated across rest of sector. • BG Group -- drops 14% after it said no production growth expected next year, market having expected 10%+ growth. Change due to shutdown of platform in North Sea and reduction in US drilling due to drop in natural gas prices. • Reminder: Non-farms on Friday, last before election, with ADP numbers tomorrow.

FTSE flat as EU summit starts-- IG's Morning Market Headlines 18.10.12
FTSE gives away early gains -2 at 5908. Sentiment has been helped by Moody's decision not to downgrade Spain. Can we head towards 6000? Need to get through the September high of around 5930 first. Our insight platform says that 83% of IG clients are short on the FTSE 100. Chinese GDP is weaker again but in-line with expectations. UK retail Sales are due at 0930 with +0.4% month-on-month expected. EU summit starts in Brussels with full banking union one of the topics. Merkel has already been out this morning saying she sees a more stable eurozone. Shares in SABMiller down --1.38% after it released its numbers. Shares in Man Group down --4% after more outflows --but the market won't be surprised by this. Shares in Man Group have been strong recently, partly on being talked up as a sitting duck for takeover, and so many investors are happy to take some yield and wait to see if that materialises. US earnings season continues with headline earnings continuing, on the whole, to beat expectations for most companies. Even though we haven't had many knockout numbers. IBM and Intel two of the slumpers yesterday, with IBM having its disproportionate effect on the price weighted Dow. After hours last night we had figures from Amex and eBay and today we get Verizon before and Google and Microsoft after. Opening call for the Dow around 20 points lower at 13535 following drags.

FTSE 100 loses another female chief executive
FTSE 100 loses another female chief executive Story from: www.guardian.co.uk Image Attribution: PR Marjorie Scardino was the first - but there have never been more than five women FTSE 100 chief executives at any one timeDame Marjorie Scardino became the first female chief executive of a FTSE 100 company when she took the helm at Pearson in 1997. Hopes that she would blaze a trail have been crushed however - there have never been more than five women FTSE 100 chief executives at any one time. Currentlu there are only four: Burberry boss Angela Ahrendts who took the reins at the fashion group in 2006; Cynthia Carroll who has run mining company Anglo American since early 2007 and Alison Cooper chief executive of Imperial Tobacco since 2010. The other women who have made it to the top are Dorothy Thompson whose Drax Group has been in the FTSE 100 twice during her seven-year tenure but is currently outside the top ranked firms; completing the list is Katherine Garrett-Cox who ran investment manager Alliance Trust when it was in the index for three years before dropping out in March 2011.Opinion is divided over whether quotas should be introduced as in Scandinavia to boost the number of women in top positions. Helena Morrissey who runs Newton Investment Management and founded the 30% Club has described quotas as demeaning to women as they suggest they cannot get there on merit. Morrissey believes that women's lack of confidence and company culture are to blame for the lack of ...

In domestic news, RBS has fallen -1.5% after the surprising decision from Santander to withdraw its offer to buy 316 branches of the part-nationalised bank. In the Euro Zone, Spain and Portugal continued their anti-austerity demonstrations over the weekend, while IMF Chief Christine Lagarde said that Greece should be given more time to meet their latest targets.
