Collinsville
Back in October, I went to Collinsville, CT with my brother and his friend. They took stills and I shot video. Collinsville is a nice little former mill town, like so many in Connecticut. Today it's just a place for wealthier people who work in Hartford to come and live away from the city.
Shot on a Panasonic DVX100a

Collinsville Kids
Late night; July 3, 2011.
Most of the town's July 4th celebrations are over and most of the town is asleep. But still, life goes on. Unnoticed, and undocumented, life goes on...
Watch it in full screen, it was shot at night, and the detail is lost in standard screen mode.
The song is "Hold Tight London" by The Chemical Brothers

Collinsville Canoe Festival, Collinsville Ct.
Every spring the Collinsville Canoe Company hosts a paddle and sales weekend on the Farmington River. The event attracts everyone that uses the river for recreation, and those that want to start. It's much more that a sale, there are seminars, demonstrations, workshops, and an opportunity to try out that new kayak. People from all over the state, and beyond, show up for the festivities. The Farmington is one of the top canoe and kayak rivers in the state, as well as having a federal wild and scenic designation. I wanted to document the event, and I also wanted to try out the Panasonic TM700. I shot this in 1080/60p mode. Then, because I am using an older Mac with I-Movie 08, pulled the MTS files from the card, loaded them into Toast 9 and converted them to HDV 720p. The files were then edited in Final Cut Express. As you can see, the results look pretty good. The only issue is the size of the files. This video is 2.4 gb, without compression. I used the converter in Final Cut to reduce the size to 303 mb., that you see here. Still a big file, but manageable. The music is " There's So Much You Can Do In A Canoe" by Brant Miller and Patricia B. Miller.
