A Drive Down Mt Scott, Wichita Mountains Oklahoma
This downhill video of Mt. Scott allows viewing the surrounding mountains and prairie, instead of just the road. The video starts looking west towards "Mt. Sheridan" and concludes facing south towards highway 49, at the Mt. Scott Overlook Turnoff. At 4:49, you can see live artillery impacting from nearby Ft. Sill. The "Mt. Scott" summit road was constructed by the CCC during the 1930's. My great grandfather, John Hall (Meers, Oklahoma) was a member of this crew. This video is a tribute to his work. The Wichita Mountain Wildlife refuge is home to free range buffalo, Long Horn, Elk, Deer, and many other animals. Much of this refuge is easily observable by car. There is ample camping, hiking, boating, and fishing. You can see my landscape pictures of the area at s106.photobucket.com or www.com

2011-11-07: Tornado in the Wichita Mountains
A tornado dances through the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge near Saddle Mountain, OK. We are on OK-115 about 4 miles NW of Meers, OK, and about 2-3 mi E of the tornado. Watch how the near-surface part of the tornado bends and twists, possibly in response to the complex terrain. A chase log will be available soon at tornatrix.net. The "storm chasers" in this video hold MS and/or Ph.D. degrees in meteorology and have a decade of experience in storm research. All know how to conduct themselves safely in and around severe weather.

Fish Kill, Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, September 12, 2010
It seems like this kill was restricted to one area on the lake. I'm guessing it was caused by a bloom because there was a green tint in water that is normally clear.

Driving Down Mt Scott in the Wichita Mountains near Lawton, Oklahoma
Mount Scott is a prominent mountain just to the northwest of Lawton Oklahoma rising to a height of 2464 feet (751 m) above sea level. It is located in the Wichita Mountains near Fort Sill Military Reservation and lies in the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge. The US Fish and Wildlife Service is responsible for the maintenance of the area. Visitors can reach the summit by car or bicycle via a three-mile paved road. Hiking is allowed, although there are no formal trails and the paved road is closed to pedestrians. Mount Scott is also popular for its numerous rock climbing areas. This downhill video of Mt. Scott allows viewing the surrounding mountains and prairie, instead of just the road. The "Mt. Scott" summit road was constructed by the CCC during the 1930's. The Wichita Mountain Wildlife refuge is home to free range buffalo, Long Horn, Elk, Deer, and many other animals. Much of this refuge is easily observable by car. Wedge Tornado near Saddle Mountain in the Wichita Mountains, Oklahoma - November 7, 2011
This was the third larger tornado of the day and it formed N of Snyder, Oklahoma near Saddle Mountain in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge on November 7, 2011. We were playing catch up during the tornado and never got a chance to tripod it, which was a shame. However, we managed to still get some good video of this beast as it formed and moved to the North and East into the refuge! Filmed by Chris Sanner, Cody Foster and Josh Ward.
