Is Climate Change To Blame for Honeybee Decline?
The honeybee's decline has been a perplexing mystery for years, but scientists believe they are closer to finding out why the bees are dying off. Researchers in the UK and Australia have discovered the bee's histone code, a genetic code that controls changes in cell development. These codes, found in humans, can be changed by nutritional and environmental changes, and scientists believe climate change may be causing all honeybee larvae to turn into workers instead of queen bees. The researchers now plan to study bee diets and hope their work will determine how certain pesticides affect bee development. The science world is buzzing at this latest development, which could be boon for honeybee repopulation after years of damaging losses.

Bill McKibben: Connecting the Dots on Climate Change
"We should not have called it Hurricane Sandy. We should have called it Hurricane Exxon," says climate activist Bill McKibben. In the aftermath of a superstorm, Americans are finally making the connection between the changing weather and our fossil fuel addiction. McKibben took a break from his "Do the Math" tour, which calls on universities and other organizations to divest from the fossil fuel industry, to discuss the pressing structural changes we need to slow our warming planet.

Inside Story Americas - Extreme weather: Linked to climate change?
Extreme weather has gripped much of the United States recently and thousands of heat records have been broken. At least 46 deaths have been linked to the July heat wave alone. A study released this week shows that the last 12 months have been the warmest on record for the US mainland. And these numbers do not even include July's high temperatures. In late June, a violent weather system left more than a dozen people dead and millions without power for days across several states. Most of the country is suffering from moderate to extreme drought, creating conditions ideal for raging wildfires.

Sing for the Climate Belgium - Final clip
Sing for the Climate is a big singing manifestation that first took place on September 22 and 23 2012 in Belgium. More than 80.000 people in more than 180 Belgian cities and communities sang the song "Do it Now", urging politicians to take more ambitious climate measures both on local, national and international level. This video is a synthesis of recordings that were made in all locations. The success of 'Sing for the Climate' proves that a mass mobilization around climate change is still possible even after the COP15 in Copenhagen. But Belgium is a small country and climate change is global problem, which needs to be tackled on an international level. Therefore we appeal to local groups and organizations worldwide to organize their own version of Sing for the Climate. More information, tools and support for your local action can be found on www.singfortheclimate.com Sing for the Climate is the culmination of three years campaigning for 'The Big Ask'. Climate change is simple: David Roberts at TEDxTheEvergreenStateCollege
David Roberts is staff writer at Grist.org. In "Climate Change is Simple" he describes the causes and effects of climate change in blunt, plain terms. On April 16, 2012, speakers and attendees gathered at TEDxTheEvergreenStateCollege: Hello Climate Change to reflect on the ability -- and responsibility -- of formal and informal education to inspire and empower action in this era of climate change. In thespirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Romney vs. Climate Change - No Joke
"With the damage from Hurricane Sandy still being assessed and states struggling to restore basic services to millions of residents, a new ad from climate advocacy group Forecast the Facts urges Americans to "Tell Mitt Romney: Climate change isn't a joke." The ad juxtaposes images of Sandy's destruction with a line from Governor Romney's acceptance speech at the 2012 Republican National Convention. In the speech, Romney took a jab at Obama's 2008 Democratic nomination acceptance speech, and the president's declared support for climate change action. Following his speech, Romney doubled down on his remarks, telling NBC's David Gregory, "I'm not in this race to slow the rise of the oceans or to heal the planet," during an interview on "Meet the Press."* Cenk Uygur, Michael Shure (Current TV Political Correspondent), and John Iadarola (Host, TYT University) break down the ad and what it could mean in the 11th hour before the election. *Read more from James Gerken/Huffington Post: www.huffingtonpost.com Watch the original Romney vs Sandy video from ForecastTheFacts: www.youtube.com Support The Young Turks by Subscribing bit.ly Support The Young Turks by Shopping bit.ly Like Us on Facebook: www.fb.com Follow Us on Twitter: bit.ly Buy TYT Merch: theyoungturks.spreadshirt.com Find out how to watch The Young Turks on Current by clicking here: www.current.com

Coalition Of The Willing
'Coalition of the Willing' is a collaborative animated film and web-based event about an online war against global warming in a 'post Copenhagen' world.
‘Coalition of the Willing’ has been Directed and produced by Knife Party, written by Tim Rayner and crafted by a network of 24 artists from around the world using varied and eclectic film making techniques. Collaborators include some of the world’s top moving image talent, such as Decoy, World Leaders and Parasol Island.
The film offers a response to the major problem of our time: how to galvanize and enlist the global publics in the fight against global warming. This optimistic and principled film explores how we could use new Internet technologies to leverage the powers of activists, experts, and ordinary citizens in collaborative ventures to combat climate change. Through analyses of swarm activity and social revolution, 'Coalition of the Willing' makes a compelling case for the new online activism and explains how to hand the fight against global warming to the people.

Obama's Frustrating Answer to Climate Change
"Environmental advocates have expressed frustration with the lack of discussion of climate change in the presidential race this year, a reticence that persisted even after the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. On Wednesday, in his first post-election news conference, President Obama offered his most extensive remarks on climate change in months. They did not particularly thrill environmentalists. The president said that it was impossible to attribute a specific weather event to global warming, but noted there have been an extraordinary number of severe weather events in North America and around the globe."* Cenk Uygur, Ben Mankiewicz (Host, Turner Classic Movies), and John Iadarola (Host, TYT University) discuss Obama's address of climate change and renewable energy and the Keystone Pipeline. Climate Change: Believing and Fixing the Problem
"Superstorm Sandy is fueling concerns about climate change and how it's inflating the costs and risks of extreme weather, according to a new post-election poll from Zogby Analytics. The poll shows key voting groups in the 2012 election -- Hispanics, women, young voters -- are among those most concerned with confronting climate change now and protecting America's air, water, wildlife and other natural resources. These results show the dramatic impact 2012′s extreme weather has had across party lines, with half of Republicans, 73 percent of independents and 82 percent of Democrats saying they're worried about the growing cost and risks of extreme weather disasters fueled by climate change. It's a major change from our December 2009 poll, which showed two-thirds of Republicans and nearly half of political independents saying they were 'not at all concerned' about global climate change and global warming. The political climate has shifted and members of Congress need to catch up with their constituents." Cenk Uygur, Ben Mankiewicz (Host, Turner Classic Movies), and John Iadarola (Host, TYT University) discuss numbers from recent polls on who still does or doesn't believe in climate change in light of Hurricane Sandy, and what it could take to change deniers' minds. *Read more from John Fogby/ Forbes: www.forbes.com Support The Young Turks by Subscribing bit.ly Support The Young Turks by Shopping bit.ly Like Us on Facebook: www.fb.com Follow Us on Twitter: bit.ly Buy TYT Merch ...
