Tamil Heritage: Sivasubramanian on Rich Monetary Heritage of India, 4th June 2011
Tamil Heritage Monthly Lecture: T. Sivasubramanian talks about the Rich Monetary Heritage of India. The ancient treasures of India literally includes a vast array of exquisite coins made of gold, silver and other metals. Even a cursory look at some of the coins of the Satavahanas or Guptas will reveal the rich heritage we possess in this field. Indeed, the Gupta period can be classified easily as the golden age by the sheer variety of gold coins they struck and the number of coins which are available even today with our museums and private collectors. Right from the time of our ancient kingdoms (Janapadas) up to the period of Mughal emperors, coin making in India has witnessed brilliant ideas and innovations that hints at the vision of the emperors and how they want to be perceived by their people. In this talk, we will start with the Punch-Marked coins of our Janapadas, starting from 600 BC such as Shurasena, Gandhara, and Magadha. Some excellent samples from Indo-Greeks and Scytho-Parthians who ruled Punjab and North-West (Bactria) will be presented next. Then, we will see the coins of the of the mighty Kushanas. This will be followed by the Gupta coins, where we can see the brilliant coins of Samudragupta and Kumaragupta. We will look at some Chola Coins, and finally, close with some interesting Mughal and early East India Company coins.

45 . A TRIBUTE TO INDIAN RAILWAYS !!!
Hey guys , here i present a small video clip " A TRIBUTE TO INDIAN RAILWAYS " featuring the beautiful Bhor Ghats, located in Maharashtra , India taken from Udyan Express. Indian Railways is a departmental undertaking of Government of India, which owns and operates most of India's rail transport. The railways traverse the length and breadth of the country and carry over 30 million passengers and 2.8 million tons of freight daily. It is one of the world's largest commercial or utility employers, with more than 1.6 million employees. Hats off to "Indian Railways" for this noble achievement. Bhor Ghat is a mountain passage located between Karjat and Khandala in Maharashtra, India along the railway line and between Khopoli and Khandala. Situated on the crest of the Western Ghat mountain ranges, Bhor Ghat is noted for its surroundings comprising scenic waterfalls, lakes and dense woods. Bhor Ghat was an important trade route in the past and was one of the three main ghats developed by the Satavahanas to move the goods from the merchant ships from Syria and Egypt to their capital Paithan. The ports of Karanja and Rajapuri were connected to the ghat. Later, Mountstuart Elphinstone and John Malcolm laid a railway line from Mumbai to Pune through Bhor Ghat, making it a rail route with 28 tunnels, old bridges and magnificent views. This Ghat opened Mumbai to the Deccan. All credits to "The Mozart of madras" Dr ARRahman for such a wonderful background music. Song:- Pudhu Vellai Mazhai ...

1. Holiday in Goa : My Trip to Calangute, Baga, Anjuna via New Delhi.
Goa's known history stretches back to the 3rd century BC, when it formed part of the Mauryan Empire, ruled by the Buddhist emperor, Ashoka of Magadha. Buddhist monks laid the foundation of Buddhism in Goa. Between the 2nd century BCE and the 6th century CE, Goa was ruled by the Chutus of Karwar as feudatories of the Satavahanas of Kolhapur (2nd century BCE to the 2nd century CE), Western Kshatrapas (around 150 CE), the Abhiras of Western Maharashtra, Bhojas of the Yadav clans of Gujarat, and the Konkan Mauryas as feudatories of the Kalachuris.[9] The rule later passed on to the Chalukyas of Badami, who controlled it between 578 to 753, and later the Rashtrakutas of Malkhed from 753 to 963. However from 765 to 1015, the Southern Silharas of Konkan ruled Goa as the feudatories of the Chalukyas and the Rashtrakutas. Over the next few centuries, Goa was successively ruled by the Kadambas as the feudatories of the Chalukyas of Kalyani. They patronised Jainism in Goa. In 1312, Goa came under the governance of the Delhi Sultanate. However, the kingdom's grip on the region was weak, and by 1370 they were forced to surrender it to Harihara I of the Vijayanagara empire. The Vijayanagara monarchs held on to the territory until 1469, when it was appropriated by the Bahmani sultans of Gulbarga. After that dynasty crumbled, the area fell to the hands of the Adil Shahis of Bijapur who established as their auxiliary capital the city known under the Portuguese as Velha Goa. In 1510, the ...

India2010 From Karla to Mumbai
The Karla caves are centuries old and probably have the largest collection of Chaityas. The caves with Viharas were excavated for the Buddhist monks, who used to gather here during the monsoons. Built in the time of the Hinayana sect, during the Satavahanas rule, these caves do not actually show the Buddha. A steep 350-step climb leads to the caves. At the entrance is a recently built temple; accompanied by a pillar from the Buddhist period. The facade of the caves is formed by carved temple screens, sculpted with railing ornaments and human couples. Outer and inner screens form an antechamber to the main cave. The panels of the wooden doors and windows are finely decorated with intricate sculptures of couples embracing. You will also come across a 45-meter (148 foot) long Chaitya, possibly the finest of its kind in the country.

jai bolo Telangana1
Telangana is situated on the central stretch of the Indian Peninsula, most of it on the high Deccan Plateau between the Aryan North and Dravidian South. The earliest mention of this region is to be found in the Aitareyabrahmana. It figured subsequently in the Ramayana and Mahabharatha and in the Puranas. It became "the region eminently suited for the fusion of the two cultures". The language of the people was Dravidian, called Telinga. The race and language had a glorious history that spans over 1000 years. The people had distinct style of their own in the fields of literature, music, dance, painting and sculpture. This culture acted as a bridge between the North and South. There were many Buddhist monasteries built in this region. though it belonged to Dravidian family of languages. They have more affinity in customs, traditions and social institutions of marriage and the like with that of Sanskrit. By nature the Telugus are considered to be emotional people. They combined in themselves the intellectual agnosticism of the Tamils and the mystic quality of the Bengalis, said Sarojini Naidu. The former state of Hyderabad, for instance, presented a polyglot character consisting of the Telugu speaking Muslims constituting an influential minority. After the merger of the two regions in 1956, many people migrated into Telangana from Andhra districts, resulting in new social tensions. As Myron Weiner puts it, migrations sometimes have de-stabilizing effects, arousing intense ...

Fight for Telangana in 2012
Telangana forms the core of the Satavahana Dynasty (221BC-218 AD) and in the recent history, it formed the core of the Golconda State and Hyderabad State, ruled by alien Muslim rules, Qutub Shahi Dynasty (1520-1687) and Nizam Dynasty (1724-1948), until she joined the democratic republic of Indian Union in 1948 ending hundreds of years of autocratic rule. Despite fifty-years of democratic rule, the Telangana region remains one of the most backward rgions in the entire Indian Union and remains the most backward province in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Telangana constitutes 10 districts: Adilabad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Medak, Warangal, Khammam, Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Nalgonda, and Mahaboobnagar districts.
