CHERRY Energy Harvesting Light Switch Using JN5168 Wireless Microcontroller
Thomas Lorbach, NXP Semiconductors, demonstrates the CHERRY energy-harvesting wireless switch. The batteryless switch uses the JN5168 -- NXP's newest wireless microcontroller for the "Internet of Things." The compact, ultra-low-power JN5168 wireless microcontroller integrates directly into a standard E27 base of an LED lamp. Lamps fitted with the appropriate E27 base bulb can now be switched on and off - or dimmed - directly with the CHERRY energy-harvesting wireless switch without any further installation required. The JN5168 is ideal for applications ranging from smart lighting and home automation, to building automation and wireless sensor networks. With extensive on-chip memory and RAM, design engineers can do more with a much lower bill of materials, while taking advantage of NXP's expertise in a wide range of software stacks based on the 802.15.4 standard. NFC Mobile Payments Accelerate Lunch Service at NXP Cafeteria
Faster payment at the checkout counter, shorter queues -- before you know it, you're sitting down happily with your colleagues at lunch in the company cafeteria. Employees of NXP Semiconductors in Nijmegen, Netherlands are now experiencing the benefits of mobile payments in the company canteen, with two out of four payment terminals now designated "fast lanes" accepting Cashless Betalen. With a tap of their mobile phones equipped with an NFC sticker, they can make quick, secure micro-payments -- without the hassle of using cash. Cashless Betalen is a cashless payment application used with the "virtual wallet" service offered by Rabobank, a leading bank in the Netherlands. Identive Group provides the user interface and account management software platform for the wallet. In addition, an NFC (Near Field Communication) sticker from Identive, based on MIFARE DESFire EV1 chip technology from NXP, enables employees' phones to access and use the Cashless Betalen system. Enabling HD IP security cameras for networked surveillance (NXP at Security China 2012)
Rick Dumont, NXP Semiconductors, provides an overview of the new Advanced ASC884xA and ASC885xA series of single-chip video processors for HD IP security cameras. These devices integrate virtually all functions required for an IP camera design -- from raw image sensor data input, image signal processing (ISP), and H.264 compression, to secure encrypted transmission over the network through a Gigabit Ethernet interface. Capturing as many as 60 frames per second at Full HD resolution (1080p/60), the new Advanced series supports H.264 High Profile encoding while consuming less than 1.5 W of power, achieving the best power efficiency and lowest bit rate compared to other solutions on the market today. Further, the ASC884xA and ASC885xA devices enable extremely clear video images through advanced ISP features such as very flexible spatial and temporal (2D/3D) noise reduction for excellent low-light performance -- critical for security cameras operating under a wide range of lighting conditions -- as well as programmable edge enhancement. www.nxp.com www.nxp.com

LFPAK Power-SO8 vs. DPAK - NXP Semiconductors Quick Learning 18
As automotive applications become more complex, additional real-estate is required within the same module size. In applications such as engine controllers, the additional functionality requires the use of smaller footprint MOSFETs. LFPAK has a footprint 50% smaller than that of DPAK whilst offering similar thermal performance. Links: www.nxp.com www.nxp.com

Biological Representation
For my final exam at the School of Arts in Groningen, I developed a system which visualizes visitors of our exhibition. The visitor receives an RFID tag at the entrance, this tag will be used to store characteristics provided by the visitor. The tag is scanned once the visitor approaches my project. If the tag gets recognized it will display an item on a big screen. The item behaves like an individual on this screen, with the characteristics provided.
The system that scans the visitors is called ODIN. The system is named after Odin, a god from the Norse mythology who offered an eye to become omniscient. The visualization of the data provided by ODIN is based on Biological Representation, which closely connects to my thesis. The usage of biological patterns and behavior is increasing in Numerical Representation, Biological Representation is the result of this evolution…
