We travel through Val Gardena over the Sella Pass to Canazai. There we take the gondola up to the Rifugio Belvedere for a picnic and hike the Bindelweg to the Rifugio del Viel and take in some of the most awesome mountain view in Tirol. The Dolomites, Northern Italy
The Dolomites (Ladin: Dolomites; Italian: Dolomiti; German: Dolomiten; Venetian: Dołomiti: Friulian: Dolomitis) are a mountain range located in north-eastern Italy. It is a part of Southern Limestone Alps and extends from the River Adige in the west to the Piave Valley (Pieve di Cadore) in the east. The northern and southern borders are defined by the Puster Valley and the Sugana Valley (Val Sugana). The Dolomites are nearly equally shared between the provinces of Belluno, South Tyrol and Trentino. There are also mountain groups of similar geological structure that spread over the River Piave to the east -- Dolomiti d'Oltrepiave; and far away over the Adige River to the west -- Dolomiti di Brenta (Western Dolomites). There is also another smaller group called Piccole Dolomiti (Little Dolomites) located between the provinces of Trentino, Verona and Vicenza. One national park and many other regional parks are located in the Dolomites. In August 2009, the Dolomites were declared a natural heritage site by UNESCO.

The Dolomites are a section of the Alps. They are located for the most part in the province of Belluno, the rest in the provinces of Bolzano-Bozen and Trento (all in north-eastern Italy). Conventionally they extend from the River Adige in the west to the Piave Valley (Pieve di Cadore) in the east. I travelled alone from the top of the skilift station to Ospitale, taking just 5 hours 20 minutes (solo travel is always faster). I met various people along the way but travelled the last half mainly with Davide & Elisabeth.

First of all Black Hole Sun is a statement against light pollution and waste of energy - especially in the European alps. The west and eastern alps offer some of the last remote places where you and your kids can enjoy the beauty of a starry, clear, nightsky, which is the same for all people: one people, one sky!
By contrasting footage of highly lit cities and frequented traffic ways in the tyrol inn-valley with surrounding dark valleys and mountains, I was able to show some effects of light pollution, which hinders us from watching a clear, starry night sky.
Light pollution increases during winter time due to inversion which results in smog in the valleys. inversion means that a heated, polluted layer of air on a valley's bottom is separated from cold, fresh air above. this polluted air causes health problems, especially with children. In some parts of the footage one can see inversion.
Second, Black Hole Sun also shows my dedication to the beautiful mountains in the Alps. I hope you enjoy the scenery as much as I do.

The Tre Cime di Lavaredo - Sexten Dolomites - Italy
The Tre Cime di Lavaredo also called the Drei Zinnen (German, literally "three merlons"), are three distinctive battlement-like peaks, in the Sexten Dolomites of northeastern Italy. They are probably one of the best-known mountain groups in the Alps. The three peaks, from east to west, are: * Cima Piccola/Kleine Zinne ("little peak") * Cima Grande/Große Zinne ("big peak") * Cima Ovest/Westliche Zinne ("western peak"). The peaks are composed of well-layered dolostones of the Dolomia Principale (Hauptdolomit) formation, Carnian to Rhaetian in age, as are many other groups in the Dolomites (eg, the Tofane, the Pelmo or the Cinque Torri). Until 1919 the peaks formed part of the border between Italy and Austria. Now they lie on the border between the Italian provinces of Bolzano-Bozen and Belluno and still are a part of the linguistic boundary between German-speaking and Italian-speaking majorities. The Cima Grande has an elevation of 2999 metres (9839 ft). It stands between the Cima Piccola, at 2857 metres (9373 ft), and the Cima Ovest, at 2973 metres (9754 ft). SOURCE : WIKIPEDIA
