The London Borough of Newham ⁱ/ˈnjuːəm/ is a London borough formed from the towns of West Ham and East Ham, within East London.

It is situated 5 miles (8 km) east of the City of London, and is north of the River Thames. Newham is one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the Olympic Stadium. According to 2006 estimates, Newham has one of the highest ethnic minority populations of all the districts in the country, with no particular ethnic group dominating. The local authority is Newham London Borough Council, the second most deprived in England. .

The borough was formed by merging the former area of the Essex county borough of East Ham and the county borough of West Ham as a borough of the newly formed Greater London, on 1 April 1965. Green Street marks the former boundary between the two. North Woolwich also became part of the borough (previously being in the Metropolitan Borough of Woolwich, in the County of London) along with a small area west of the River Roding which had previously been part of the Municipal Borough of Barking. Newham was devised for the borough as an entirely new name.

Newham Generals are an English East London based grime duo consisting of MCs D Double E and Footsie with live DJing provided by DJ Tubby. The group was founded in 2003, after splitting from grime collective N.A.S.T.Y Crew with former member Monkstar. The pair were signed to Dizzee Rascal's Dirtee Stank record label in 2005, after D Double E showed Dirtee Stank a CD of the groups work, and promptly released a mix CD on the label. They released their debut album Generally Speaking in April 2009 and a EP Bag of Grease the following year. Dizzee Rascal idolised D Double E as an MC in his youth.

Logan Sama is a British Grime DJ from Brentwood, Essex, who currently hosts a weekly Grime show on London radio station Kiss 100 which has been running since May 2005. He also runs the record labels Adamantium Music and Earth616 which specialise in vinyl releases.

He began his radio career on local pirate station Plush FM hosting several cover shows playing underground Garage in 2002. Towards the end of 2002 he was recruited to major London community radio station Rinse FM where his show became a popular place to hear the newest music and regularly featured the biggest MCs performing live. His last Rinse show was captured on video on the Rinsessions DVD and showcased such names as Wiley, Skepta, Trim, Ruff Sqwad, Tinchy Stryder, Newham Generals and many others.

He moved to London's Kiss 100 in the spring of 2005 and began a late night specialist Grime show running from 2-4am on Thursday night/Friday morning. The popularity of this show soon saw it move to Monday night 11pm-1am where it has steadily grown to its current position as the leading show amongst young people within London at that time, capturing over 61,000 listeners in the Greater London area as certified by RAJAR. His exposure of live mix sets and first played new tracks has led to him becoming the leading figure in radio for Grime music. His shows are now also captured on video and streamed as YouTube clips which have proved very popular.

Benjamin Hudson McIldowie (born 1979, Birmingham, England), known professionally as Mr Hudson, is an English R&B/pop artist based in London, England. Mr Hudson is signed to rapper and producer Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music. He has listed various influences, most notably Chet Baker, David Bowie, The Police, Andre 3000, Marvin Gaye, Phoenix, The Specials, Billie Holiday, Rosster, Ella Fitzgerald and Dizzee Rascal.

Mr Hudson initially recorded with his band under the name Mr Hudson & The Library. Their first album, Tale of Two Cities, was released in 2007. The Library were Joy Joseph (Steel Pan, backing vocals, percussion), Torville Jones (piano), Maps Huxley (AKA Robin French, bass guitar) and Andrew "Wilkie" Wilkinson (drums). They were known for their energetic live performances and were nominated for "Best Newcomer" at the 2007 UK Festival Awards.

As a solo artist, Mr Hudson has worked with acts such as Kanye West, Dizzee Rascal, N-Dubz, KiD CuDi, Tinie Tempah, Jay-Z, Big Sean and Caspa, and also toured with Calvin Harris. His vocal performances have been compared to those of Sting. He is now accompanied by Joy Joseph (vocals and steel drum), Rob Barron (electric keyboard), Raphael Mann (bass guitar) and Andrew "Wilkie" Wilkinson (electric drums).

Dylan Kwabena Mills (born 18 September 1984), better known by his stage name Dizzee Rascal, is a UK and US-based rapper, songwriter and record producer of Ghanaian and Nigerian descent. His music is a blend of garage, hip hop, grime, ragga, pop and electronic music, with eclectic samples and more exotic styles. Best known for his number-one hits "Dance wiv Me", "Bonkers", "Holiday", "Dirtee Disco" & "Shout", his debut album, Boy in da Corner, won him the 2003 Mercury Prize. Follow-up albums Showtime, Maths + English and Tongue n' Cheek have all been critically acclaimed and certified gold, the last going platinum for sales exceeding 300,000 units.

Mills' Nigerian father died when he was young, and he was raised in Bow, in the East End of London in a single-parent family by his Ghanaian mother Priscilla, about whom he says: "I had issues as a kid. I was violent and disruptive. The way my mum helped was by finding me a different school every time I got kicked out, always fighting to keep me in the school system" he attended St Pauls Way Community School.
