Mauritius - Port Louis - TV Traveller
Port Louis is the capital of Mauritius. It is a port on the Indian Ocean, and the nation's largest city and main port. Together with Réunion and Rodrigues, Mauritius is part of the Mascarene Islands. This archipelago was formed in a series of undersea volcanic eruptions, as the African plate drifted over the Réunion hotspot. Mauritius and Rodrigues were formed 8-10 million years ago. They are no longer volcanically active, and the hotspot now rests under Réunion. The island of Mauritius itself is formed around a central plateau, with its highest peak in the southwest, Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire at 828 metres (2717 ft). Around the plateau, the original crater can still be distinguished from several mountains.

Mauritius (2/2006) - Port Louis
Port Louis is the capital of Mauritius. It is the largest city of the country and main port, which borders the Indian Ocean. It is located in the Port Louis District. The population is 147688. Port Louis was already in use as a harbor in 1638. In 1735, under French government, it became the administrative center of Mauritius and a major reprovisioning halt for French ships travelling around the Cape of Good Hope. The Port is named in honour of King Louis XV. The first Governor was Count Bertrand-François Mahé de La Bourdonnais. Attractions include the Caudan Waterfront, Port Louis Bazaar, the Mauritian Chinatown and the old Port Louis theatre. The capital has also three museums which are: the Mauritius Natural History Museum, the Blue Penny Museum and the Mauritius Stamp Museum. The biggest and oldest post office in Mauritius is found near the Caudan Waterfront. Situated in the heart of the city, near the State Bank Tower, the Place d'Armes is easily recognizable by its tall palm trees. It is the main entrance to and out of Port Louis.

Loreto Convent, Port Louis, Mauritius (2011 School Reunion)
55 former pupils of Loreto Convent, Port Louis, Mauritius gathered from various corners of the globe for a school reunion at the end of July 2011. One of them is one of my wifes many sisters. As luck would have it, we had just arrived in Mauritius on holiday/visiting family for several weeks and so I got the opportunity to try and capture some of the atmosphere of this special day for all these ladies. I got just 24hrs notice and it was a challenge doing it with only one small video camera but this is what I managed to create. Hope you like it ladies! Note: After I completed this film I learnt that Mambie Hansrod and Muslimah Mauthoor were also there (ie their names are not on the list at the end). Techie Stuff: Shot hand-held on a tiny Panasonic TM900 in AVCHD 1080p50i mode (17Mbps), mostly in manual mode. Sound capture via an onboard Rode Videomic Pro and edited in Vegas 9E then rendered out to a 720p25 mp4 file (5Mbps) for YouTube uploading. YouTube's encoding of the 720p version seemed lower quality than normal - I guess their servers were very busy when I uploaded it during our Bank Holiday here in the UK. No matter, at least you all get to see it! See more of my professional film work (corporate and other stuff) on: www.shootingimage.co.uk Andy
