Franks lifelong passion was music. He learned to play trumpet as a young boy and never put it down. His professional career started in 1948 with the Royal Air Force in England. Frank immigrated to Canada in 1954 and continued his military and musical career with the Stadacona Band and the National Band of the Naval Reserve. In 1965 he spent a year with the world famous London Palladium Orchestra, returning to Nova Scotia and the Royal Canadian Navy in 1966. Over the years Frank was always very much involved in the music scene in and around Nova Scotia: conducting, performing, recording and teaching privately and at Acadia University. A number of his former students are now professional musicians. Frank performed on a regular basis with the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Nova Scotia. He was frequently featured on CBC Halifax radio and television, most notably with the Dave Woods Orchestra. From its inception in 1979, Frank organized and directed the Fanfare Trumpets of the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo.
