LANDING ON GUADALCANAL ...Our first land offensive of World War II was fought here in the Solomon Islands. That was almost 70 years ago - 7 August 1942. Last August I flew with a group to Honiara, Guadalcanal, to tour battle sites. Most of us had relatives who had fought here. Some had actually been here during the war. This eight-minute video is a glance at our first hour on the historic island in the South Pacific, and a look at what it is like today.

Festival of Pacific Arts opens in Honiara
Thousands of people flooded the streets of Solomon Islands' capital Honiara early Monday morning, as the Festival of Pacific Arts saw a spectacular opening. The welcoming of the traditional canoes made up the first part of the opening, with war canoes arriving in the early morning light. Traditional dances from Tuvalu, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tahiti and other nations also added colour to the opening.

Streets of Honiara
A Short Film by Immigrants Production. This is a short travel documentary in Honiara City, Solomon Islands. All the clips were shot unplanned. Honiara City is small compared to most of the pacific islands' capitals. There are three main races of people; Melanesians, Polynesians, and Micronesians-you'll see once you get there. The population of the Solomon Islands is just about over a 1/2 million. You'll see lots of smiles and friendly people. Hope you enjoy your stay/visit in the Solomon Islands. If you're traveling to the Solomon Islands in the near future, don't hesitate to check this out! For more information on travel or the Solomon Islands see these websites www.facebook.com www.lonelyplanet.com www.visitsolomons.com.sb www.cia.gov (I do not have any business affiliations with these websites...the purpose is to give you some basic details before hand) Immigrants Production is an underground/unregistered/private/personal film Co.

The Christian Care Centre, Honiara
The Christian Care Centre (CCC) is only women's refuge in the Solomon Islands. It was established by the Sisters of the Church in the capital city, Honiara. The Centre provides support and accommodation for women and children who are victims of domestic violence. It is open to families of all races and religions. This documentary tells the story of the CCC and shows what an important role it plays in the lives of those who seek refuge there. The sisters are hard working and provide counselling, food, shelter, medical care and protection for those at the Centre, working closely with the local police and community groups. They mediate, trying to reunite families and provide awareness of domestic violence issues. Copyright Anglican Board of Mission - Australia www.abmission.org

Kurukuru Arrival in Honiara May 23 2011
This is a video of the arrival of Kurukuru in Honiara after the successful defense of their title at the OFC futsal championship in Fiji. It is shot with a still camera so the quality is not great but it gives you a picture of the joy felt by ordinary people in Solomon Islands about their team qualifying for the 2012 futsal world cup. Please share the link with all Solomon soccer fans throughout the world. (Music by Jazed of Powerhouse Productions)

Wakabaot Long Saenataon - Edwin Sitori live in Honiara, 2008
This is a live performance of the legendary Solomon Islands song "Wakabaot Long Saenataon" by Edwin Sitori, the composer of the song. He is backed by modern Honiara stringband One Drop Band. The video was shot in Honiara on December 13th at Solomon Islands PM Dr. Derek Sikua's annual Christmas Party at the PM's compound in Vavaya Ridge. The song has been released in several different versions since it was first made in the early 1950s. Among the more famous versions is Solomon Dakei and his Solomon Singers' version. But this is the original one, sung by the composer, Mr Edwin Sitori. Sitori is one of the few original Solomon Islands stringband musicians left today. A true Pacific legend.

BARIKE BAND of Rabaul -HONIARA NIL-1983.
This is a song from Barike "Team Spirit" album of 1983.This was recorded using a very basic Tascam 4-Track reel-to-reel ¼ inch analogue recorder, mixing down through a 4-channel mixer with basic on-board effects and equalization to a ¼ inch 2-track tascam stereo reel-to-reel master recorder.Sound Engineer Greg C Seeto would do many takes and mix-bounce these to two-track, back to 4-track and continue overdubs until satisfied. Most of the tracks at the time were recorded raw [no fx and compression, etc.] Because he was a musician, the rest of the tricks and good output of the final production of those early recordings was a result of his creative imaginations.
