Frame By Frame: Laurel & Hardy
Laurel and Hardy were one of the most popular comedy teams of the early Classical Hollywood era of American cinema. Composed of thin, English-born Stan Laurel (1890--1965) and heavy, American-born Oliver Hardy (1892--1957) they became well known during the late 1920s to the mid-1940s for their work in motion pictures. The team also appeared on stage throughout America and Europe. The two comedians first worked together on the film The Lucky Dog. After a period appearing separately in several short films for the Hal Roach studio during the 1920s, they began appearing in movie shorts together in 1926. Laurel and Hardy officially became a team the following year, and soon became Hal Roach's most lucrative stars. Among their most popular and successful films were the features Sons of the Desert (1933), Way Out West (1937), and Block-Heads (1938) and the shorts Big Business (1929), Liberty (1929), and their Academy Award-winning short, The Music Box (1932). The pair left the Roach studio in 1940, then appeared in eight "B" comedies for 20th Century Fox and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer from 1941 to 1945. Disappointed in the films in which they had little creative control, from 1946 to 1950 the team did not appear on film and concentrated on their stage show, embarking on a musical hall tour of England, Ireland and Scotland. They made Atoll K, a French/Italian co-production and their last film, in 1950/1951, before retiring from the screen. In total they appeared together in 106 films ...

Losing Liberty
We're just one step away from draconian rule - A Critical State takes a closer look at legislation in place which could be implemented at any time to restrict your rights without these measures having proper checks and balances. If Swine flu had precipitated a WHO level 6 threat level then this is what can kick in at the drop of a hat. With the world suffering similar instability to the period 1929 - 1933 it is important to be aware of the laws in place which may be implemented at a stroke to move from democracy to martial law. Legislation similar in nature to the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 was leveraged by the National Socialist Party to seize power in 1933. Against the backdrop of what appeared to be international terrorism these laws with wide sweeping powers were drafted and passed into law, with discoveries which undermine the official story about these "terrorist" attacks we need to be on guard against these laws being used under false pretences. We must ask, why would one make a law if it were not intended to be used at some time or other?

Beyond Black Mesa
Beyond Black Mesa is a short Independent fan film Inspired by the Half-Life Video Game series. This is an action packed short film centering around Adrian Shephard and a band of resistance fighters struggling to get out a warning about the impending invasion.
- Independent short film - 2 years in the making - Endless hours of post
- 1 Canon HV20
- 7 Friends
- $1,200 budget for the full short film.
This film is not HL,HL2 or Opposing Forces. It's a short fan film that takes place in the Half-Life world. Also, as a completely independent film, we wanted to have a creative voice in the movie and make it a movie that we would enjoy shooting. We took artistic freedoms and liberties, unfortunately most of those decisions were determined by our limited resources.
