Green Turtle Cay
Green Turtle Cay is an island in The Bahamas. It is located in the "Abaco Out Islands" and is long and 1/2 mile wide. It was named after the abundance of green turtles that inhabited the area. The population of the island is about 450 and its main settlement is New Plymouth which was founded in the 18th century. The architecture of the older homes in the village is unique in the Bahamas, with steep-pitched roofs, originating with settlers from New England.

Hope Town
Hope Town is one of the districts of the Bahamas, on the Abaco islands as well as a small village on Elbow Cay, located in Abaco. Golf carts are the main source of transportation, and most of the supplies for the area are brought in by barge each week. In Hope Town, neither cars nor golf carts are permitted in the main part of town. Only bicycles and walking are permitted. Cars and golf carts are permitted on the outskirts of town though. All the buildings that are built must adhere to Bahamian Architecture at the discretion of Town Planning. The seat of the Hope Town District Council is in Hope Town, and most of the meetings are held there.

The adventure continues. We departed Staniel Cay and headed to Big Major Cay to see the famous "swimming pigs" of the Exumas. The swimming pigs did not disappoint and they came out to greet us as soon as we made landfall. Next we headed to Sampson Cay to refuel. There we encountered an extremely high-tech boat that some of the locals believed to be a drug boat. Next it was on to Compass Cay to swim with some wild sharks and enjoy the famous Compass Cay hamburgers. Originally when we planned the trip we were planning to camp for at least two days. Heat, salt, and exhaustion made camping seem like less of a good idea once we reached the Bahamas. So we spent much of day 5 on a satellite phone attempting to call the few villas available for rent in the Exumas; All of them were booked solid. With no other options available, we headed North to the Warderick Wells region to setup a camp site. We were officially "homeless in the Bahamas". We decided to camp on a small secluded island called "Paradise Island", with a nice protected beach. Unfortunately we soon realized that Jeff forgot the tent poles. So Jeff and I headed to the Exumas Land & Sea Park Headquarters in hopes of borrowing some supplies. The park rangers were awesome and they set us up with poles from 3 different tents. We were able to rig together a makeshift tent but we couldn't secure the rain proof cover. Around 2:00 AM that night, I woke up and stepped outside. The beach was covered with tons of tiny scorpions <b>...</b>

After a very rough night eating MRE's, dodging scorpions, and sleeping through a thunderstorm in a leaking tent, we pulled ourselves together and hit the water. First we stopped back at Warderick Wells and returned some tent poles that the park rangers had loaned us. Next we island hopped back up the Exumas before stopping to launch Jeff in the parasail. The winds were 15-20 mph that day so we had a lot of difficulty getting the chute to stay steady. After dropping Jeff out of the sky we searched for a sunken plane belonging to one of history's most infamous drug smugglers; Carlos Lehder. A DC 30 loaded with Lehder's cocaine crashed into the waters just off the coast of Norman's Cay back in the early 1980's. It has since become a great reef for exploring. As the sun began to set we headed back to "MacDuff's" on Norman's Cay. After enjoying a nice dinner, a couple of locals invited us to shoot pool on Wax Cay. So in the middle of the night we boarded a center console and set sail to an island we had never seen or heard of before. There we were given an amazing tour of the island and its accommodations, ate steak dinners, and played billiards on the only pool table in the northern Exumas.

Exuma

Exuma is a district of the Bahamas, consisting of over 360 islands (or cays). The largest of the cays is Great Exuma, which is 37 mi (60 km) in length and joined to another island, Little Exuma by a small bridge. The capital and largest city in the district is George Town (permanent population 1,000), founded 1793 and located on Great Exuma. The Tropic of Cancer runs across a beach close to the city. The entire island chain is 130 mi (209 km) long and 27 sq. mi (72 km²) in area.
Between 2000 and 2010, the population of Exuma more than doubled, reflecting the construction of large and small resort properties and the related increased direct airlift to Great Exuma from locations as distant as Toronto, Canada.
Exuma was settled in or around 1783 by American loyalists fleeing the Revolutionary War. The expatriates brought a cotton plantation economy to the islands. George Town was named in honor of George III, to whom the settlers maintained their loyalty. A few smaller Cays still remain grandfathered as partially or wholly private, (still referred to as part of the Exuma-Bahamas Cays). Located by three digit suffix number (ex. Exuma xxx) Most noted Exuma 642, and 643 which in recent years, receding shorelines have shortened the lifespan of these particular adjoined cays.
Lord John Rolle, a major Loyalist settler of the Exumas, is a major figure in the islands' heritage. Upon his death in 1835, he bestowed all of his significant Exuma land holdings to his slaves. As a result, a number of towns on Great Exuma have been named after him (such as Rolleville and Rolletown).
The islands are a popular spot for yachting, sailing, diving, and coral reef and cave exploring. Many of the unnamed beaches and coves of the islands, including extensive offshore reef areas, are included in the protected Exuma National Land and Sea Park of the Bahamas National Trust. Some of the islands on which there are permanent residents and resorts include Staniel Cay (home of the Staniel Cay Yacht Club, a fixture in the Exumas), Fowl Cay, Musha Cay and Iguana Cay. Thunderball Grotto, located just a few hundred yards off Staniel Cay, is one location where the James Bond film Thunderball was filmed. Sandy Cay, just a short boat ride from Little Exuma was the location used for filming the Pirates of the Caribbean beach scenes and one Shell commercial. The novel Wind from the Carolinas was set in Great Exuma.[1]
The Exumas are the historic home of the Lucayan Natives, who were wholly enslaved in the 16th century, leaving the islands uninhabited until the 18th century. In the intervening period, the Exumas provided many hideouts and stashes for pirates. Elizabeth Harbor was a favorite lair of Captain Kidd.

The main island has been a haven for celebrities for years. Until recently, the tourist population on the island was extremely minimal, allowing anonymity for anyone escaping the spotlight. Frequent visitors included:
