http://www.expedia.com/Liverpool-and-vicinity.d6046241.Destination-Travel-Guides
Rising from the coastal plains of West Lancashire, Liverpool’s fortunes have been tied to the ocean for over 800 years. Once England’s gateway to the world, the enormous wealth that trade brought into the city was ploughed back into the city’s skyline.
In the heart of Liverpool, by the banks of the city’s beloved river, is Pier Head. Wander across this floating pier, where the excitement and teary farewells of Transatlantic steamship passengers once filled the air. Behind Pier Head, rises Liverpool’s crown, The Three Graces. These three buildings stand as a testament to both Liverpool’s former trading might, and the city’s eternal love of beauty.
Upriver from Pier Head, is the Albert Docks. Once packed with goods such as brandy, tea, ivory and tobacco, today the docks are the storehouses of many of the city’s historic treasures.
Explore Liverpool’s oceangoing past, from the ages of sail, to Titanic stories of loss and sacrifice at the Merseyside Maritime Museum. Next door, the acclaimed International Slavery Museum is a sobering reminder that the bricks of Liverpool were mortared with the blood and sweat of Africa.
The UK’s premier art intuition, the Tate, exhibits works from the national collection here at its northern home by the Mersey.
Climb aboard the Yellow Submarine and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the Fab Four across the dock at The Beatles Story. Continue your Magical Mystery Tour down the stairs at 10 Matthew Street. In the early 1960s, The Beatles performed at Cavern Club almost 300 times.
Liverpool is England’s most successful footballing city. At Anfield Road Stadium, stand before the statue of the Liverpool manager who uttered the immortal words, “Football is not a matter of life or death,…it’s far, far more important than that.”
Welcome to Liverpool, where each day is a voyage into a spectacular past, and a bright bold future as well.

Men's Shoe Must Haves With these shoes you'll always have the right shoe for outfit or situation you find yourself in.
1. Simple black dress shoe - you can wear with jeans, slacks, chinos, and more if a matte finish.

3. Boots - chukka, dessert, or snub nose Frye
4.Leather casual shoe - Cole Haan lace up and driving moc are examples. You can wear casually during the week or dress up shorts. Comfortable, versatile, and you don't have to worry about it getting beat up.
5. Fashion sneaker - you don't go running in this or go to the gym. You kick around town while looking fresh and fly. You can step up your game but not like you're looking sneakers.

The 8 HOURS IN series will be a collection of 'stay-cay-days' in the UK. Whilst saving to go travelling around the USA, I preoccupied my wanderlust by touring the UK on a budget. I've now developed a bit of a taste for it - so expect to see a lot a more of these in the future.
Apologies for the ropey quality towards the end!

Oxford Travel Video, conservative, closeted and elite, Oxford is a privileged place, highly aware of its international standing as one of the world's most famous university towns and yet remarkably restrained for a city driven by its student population. It's the kind of place where the pursuit of excellence, the weight of academic achievement and the whiff of intellectual ideals is palpable as soon as you get off the bus.
Thirty-nine colleges make up the university, their elegant honey-coloured buildings wrapping around winding cobbled streets and attracting hoards of tourists each year. Yet despite the rushing traffic and throngs of people, inside their jealously guarded quadrangles an aura of studious calm descends. The oldest colleges date back almost 750 years and little has changed inside the hallowed walls since then. The archaic traditions, customs and dress codes live on and the architecture remains largely untouched, allowing visitors to experience the colleges as countless prime ministers, poets, writers and scientists have done.

http://trinities.org/blog/podcast-101-dr-brian-leftow-from-jerusalem-to-athens/ Since 2002, Dr. Brian Leftow has been the Nolloth Professor of the Philosophy of the Christian Religion at Oriel College, Oxford University. He taught for many years at Fordham University in New York City before moving to Oxford. Dr. Leftow has written over 90 professional articles and book chapters on metaphysics, medieval philosophy, and philosophical theology.
In this wide-ranging interview, we discuss
his Jewish upbringing in Brooklyn
his conversion
his views on the roles that reason can play in the spiritual lives of Christians
why he believes in God
what would make him quit believing in Christianity
whether he would still believe in God were he to cease believing in Christianity
why he is drawn to medieval philosophy
how recent militant secularized philosophy is untraditional
whether medieval philosophy is fundamentally “backward-looking.”
the odd estrangement between most recent academic theology from analytic philosophy, and what this has to do with the work of the famous early modern philosopher Immanuel Kant (1724-1804).
We end with his metaphor of humans as mirrors of God, how even a philosophy professor can reflect the character of God, and how philosophers are like friendly piranhas or maggots. (To clarify these two analogies, the flesh or dead and rotting flesh would be our false beliefs.)

A group of students at Oxford University has called for a statue to be taken down because it is claimed to symbolise racism and colonialism.
The statue of Cecil Rhodes - dubbed by some as the founding father of Apartheid - is more than 100 years old and sits in a Grade II listed building at Oriel College.
The group wants the university to follow the example of the University of Cape Town which pulled down its statue of the white supremacist in April.
Annie Teriba is member of Oxford University's Rhodes Must Fall movement. The second year history and politics student told Sky News the statue represents institutional racism.
"It's a reminder, more than being a statue, that when this university was built it wasn't built with us in mind it was built off the back of exploiting labour and the colonial project and it's something that still gets celebrated in the form of a statue. That's something that students of colour really take seriously.
"There's a violence to having to walk past the statue every day on the way to your lectures, there's a violence to having to sit with paintings of former slave holders whilst writing your exams - that's really problematic."
She and other members of the movement take inspiration from fellow students in South Africa. In April they successfully campaigned to remove a statue of Cecil Rhodes at Cape Town University.
In life, Cecil Rhodes was ruthless in his pursuit of the British Empire. In 1888 he launched De Beers consolidating mines in southern Africa. There, policies he fought to implement paved the way for racial segregation. Rhodesia - now Zimbabwe - was named after the diamond magnate.
His estate currently endows one of the worlds most prestigious awards, the Rhodes Scholarship.
The postgraduate award brings students - which have included former US president Bill Clinton - from around the world to study at Oxford University.
Oxford student Brian Kwoba Cecil Rhode's legacy can be redeemed by his financial contributions:
"It wasn't Rhode's money: it was money taken from the labour of southern African miners, who he exploited, that created the wealth that now endows the scholarship that is in his name.
"Similarly, at Old Souls College there's a library called The Cordington library [which is] named after a slave owner who had plantations in Barbados in the Caribbean and exploited that labour and then took the money to then endow the library that exists"
"As soon as we start raising these issues a natural question becomes who should actually benefit from these scholarships?"
A spokesperson for Oriel College told Sky News: "When Cecil Rhodes died in 1902 he left 2% of his estate to Oriel College, where he had been a student.
"His legacy helped to fund the construction of a new building, opened in 1911, which is now Grade II* listed. The building frontage included a statue commemorating his benefaction.
"Now, over a century after the building was constructed, Rhodes is thought of very differently. The College draws a clear line between acknowledging the historical fact of Rhodes' donation and in any way condoning his political views.
"Oriel College is committed to being at the forefront of the drive to make Oxford University more diverse and inclusive of people from all backgrounds."

Over the last 50 years Swinburne has been an influential proponent of philosophical arguments for the existence of God. His philosophical contributions are primarily in the philosophy of religion and philosophy of science. He aroused much discussion with his early work in the philosophy of religion, a trilogy of books consisting of The Coherence of Theism (1977), The Existence of God (1979), and Faith and Reason (1981). Dr. Swinburne formulated five categories into which all religious experiences fall, the public and the private with the related subcategories, while he has also coined two principles for their assessment, namely the principle of credulity and the principle of testimony. He has authored numerous books such as: Epistemic Justification, 2001, The Resurrection of God Incarnate, 2003, Free Will and Modern Science, 2011, Mind, Brain, and Free Will, 2013.

Cornwall College Centenary Week - 20th - 25th August 1996
Ralston Milton "Rex" Nettleford, OM (Jamaica), FIJ,OCC (3 February 1933 - 2 February 2010), was a Jamaican scholar, social critic, choreographer, and Vice-Chancellor Emeritus of the University of the West Indies (UWI), the leading research university in the Commonwealth Caribbean.
As a child he sang and recited in school concerts, sang in the church choir, danced, and began working as a choreographer at the age of 11 with the Worm Chambers Variety Troupe, which helped to fund his studies.
At Cornwall College he acted in productions of the college's drama club, and was published as a poet. He was a recipient of the 1957 Rhodes Scholarship to Oriel College, Oxford where he received a postgraduate degree in Politics, and returned to Jamaica in the early 1960s to take up a position at UWI.
At UWI he first came to attention as a co-author (with M. G. Smith and Roy Augier) of a groundbreaking study of the Rastafari movement in 1961. In 1962, Nettleford and Eddy Thomas co-founded the National Dance Theatre Company of Jamaica, an ensemble which under his direction did much to incorporate traditional Jamaican music and dance into a formal balletic repertoire.
For over twenty years, Nettleford has also been the artistic director for the University Singers of the University of the West Indies, Mona campus in Jamaica. The combination of Nettleford as artistic director and Noel Dexter as musical director with the University Singers has seen the creation of what is referred to as "choral theatre".
Beginning with the collection of essays, Mirror, Mirror, published in 1969 and his editing and compiling of the speeches and writings of Norman Manley, Manley and the New Jamaica, in 1971, Nettleford established himself as a serious public historian and social critic. In 1968, he took over direction of the School for Continuing Studies at the UWI and then of the Extra-Mural Department. In 1975, the Jamaican state recognized his cultural and scholarly achievements by awarding him the Order of Merit. He also received the Gold Musgrave Medal (1981) and 13 honorary doctorates, including one in Civil Law from Oxford University. In 1996, he became Vice-Chancellor of the UWI, and held that office until 2004, when he was succeeded by E. Nigel Harris.
On 27 January 2010, Nettleford was admitted to the intensive-care unit of the George Washington University Hospital, Washington, D.C., after suffering a heart attack at his hotel in the city. He was unconscious and in a coma for several days. On Tuesday, 2 February 2010, Nettleford was pronounced dead at around 8:00pm EST.
The Rex Nettleford Foundation was established after his death. Nettleford's life was the subject of a trilogy of films by Lennie Little-White, commissioned by the foundation.

Rhodes Scholarship: Benefits, Criteria, History, Winners, Application (1998)
The Rhodes Scholarship, named after Cecil John Rhodes, is an international postgraduate award for selected foreign students to study at the University of Oxford...
The Rhodes Scholarship, named after Cecil John Rhodes, is an international postgraduate award for selected foreign students to study at the University of Oxford. It is widely regarded as "the most prestigious scholarship" in the world. Established in 1902, it was the first large-scale programme of international scholarships, inspiring the creation of other programs such as the Harkness Fellowship and Kennedy Scholarship for British nationals, the Marshall Scholarship for Americans, and more recently the Newton Fellowship arranged by the British National Academies.
Cecil Rhodes' goals in creating the Rhodes Scholarships were to promote civic-minded leadership amongst young people with (in the words of his 1899 Will) "moral force of character and instincts to lead", and (as he wrote in a 1901 codicil to his Will) to help "render war impossible" through promoting understanding between the great powers.
Rhodes Scholars may study any full-time postgraduate course offered by the university, whether a taught master's programme, a research degree, or a second undergraduate degree (senior status). In the first instance, the scholarship is awarded for two years. However, it may also be held for one year or three years. Applications for a third year are considered during the course of the second year.
University and college fees are paid by the Rhodes Trust. In addition, scholars receive a monthly maintenance stipend to cover accommodation and living expenses.[6][7] Although all scholars become affiliated with a residential college while at Oxford, they also enjoy access to Rhodes House, an early 20th-century mansion with numerous public rooms, gardens, a library, study areas, and other facilities.
The Rhodes Scholarships are administered and awarded by the Rhodes Trust, which was established in 1902 under the terms and conditions of the will of Cecil John Rhodes, and funded by his estate under the administration of Nathan Rothschild.[8] Scholarships have been awarded to applicants annually since 1902 on the basis of academic achievement and strength of character. Rhodes, who attended the University of Oxford (as a member of Oriel College), chose his alma mater as the site of his great experiment because he believed its residential colleges provided the ideal environment for intellectual contemplation and personal development.
There have been more than 7,000 Rhodes Scholars since the inception of the trust. More than 4,000 are still living.[9] The Rhodes Trust provides the Rhodes Scholarships in partnership with the Second Century Founder, John McCall MacBain and other benefactors.
In 1925, the Commonwealth Fund Fellowships (later renamed the Harkness Fellowships) were established to reciprocate the Rhodes Scholarships by enabling British graduates to study in the United States.[10] The Kennedy Scholarship programme, created in 1966 as a memorial to John F. Kennedy, adopts a comparable selection process to the Rhodes Scholarships to allow 10 British post-graduate students per year to study at either Harvard or the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Also, it cooperates with universities in China, BLCC for example. BLCC offers high-level scholarships for international students who aim to study Chinese in Beijing.[11][12] In 1953, the Parliament of the United Kingdom created the Marshall Scholarship in 1953 as coeducational alternative to the Rhodes that would serve as a living gift to the United States.[13]
The Rhodes Scholarship was open only to men until 1977, when an Act of Parliament changed Rhodes' will to extend the selection criteria to include women. Before this change, some universities protested at the exclusion of women by nominating female candidates, who were later disqualified at the state level of the American competition.[14] In 1977, the first year women were eligible, 24 women (out of 72 total scholars) were selected worldwide, with 13 women and 19 men selected from the United States.[15] Since then, the average female share of the scholarship in the United States had been around 35 percent[15] but has since increased. From 2003 to 2012, 46 percent of scholarship winners from the United States were women.
For at least its first 75 years, Rhodes Scholars usually studied for a second Bachelor of Arts degree. While that remains an option, more recent scholars usually study for an advanced degree.

Is the Christian church finished and the Christian faith headed for the great museum of history as enemies of the church now claim and certain Western trends seem to indicate? In his new book by the same title Guinness emphatically answers no, but insists that we must explore just how it was that the Christian faith has been such a culture-transforming power in Western history, and can be again.
Os Guinness is an author and social critic. Os was born in China in World War II where his parents were medical missionaries. A witness to the climax of the Chinese revolution in 1949, he was expelled with many other foreigners in 1951 and returned to Europe where he was educated in England. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of London and his D.Phil in the social sciences from Oriel College, Oxford.
Os has written or edited more than thirty books, including The American Hour, The Call, Invitation to the Classics, Long Journey Home, Unspeakable, A Free People's Suicide and The Global Public Square. His latest book Renaissance was published by InterVarsity Press in August, 2014.
Previously, Os was a freelance reporter with the BBC. Since coming to the United States in 1984, he has been a Guest Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Studies and a Guest Scholar and Visiting Fellow at the Brookings Institution. From 1986 to 1989, Os served as Executive Director of the Williamsburg Charter Foundation, a bicentennial celebration of the First Amendment. From 1991 to 2004 he was a senior fellow at the Trinity Forum, and a frequent speaker and seminar leader at political and business conferences in both the United States and Europe. He is currently a senior fellow at the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics.
He lives with his wife Jenny in McLean, Va.
