Americans can be indefinitely detained - NDAA supported by court
On Tuesday, a federal appeals court ruled that the US government can indefinitely detain anyone under the National Defense Authorization Act. This comes as a blow to the ruling that was given earlier this year, when US District Court Judge Catherine Forrest ruled that the NDAA was unconstitutional. So what does this mean for journalists and why was it overturned? Carl Mayer, attorney for The Mayer Law Group, joins us with the latest. Like us and/or follow us: twitter.com www.facebook.com

Janet Napolitano's Little Love Nest at DHS
ANN ARBOR, MI -- The Thomas More Law Center, a national public interest law firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, announced today that it has filed a federal lawsuit against Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. The lawsuit claims that her Department's "Rightwing Extremism Policy," as reflected in the recently publicized Intelligence Assessment, "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment," violates the civil liberties of combat veterans as well as American citizens by targeting them for disfavored treatment on account of the political beliefs. Click image to see view PDF of complaint. The lawsuit was filed in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on behalf of nationally syndicated conservative radio talk show host Michael Savage, Gregg Cunningham (President of the pro-life organization Center for Bio-Ethical Reform, Inc (CBR)), and Iraqi War Marine veteran Kevin Murray. The Law Center claims that Napolitano's Department (DHS) has violated the First and Fifth Amendment Constitutional rights of these three plaintiffs by attempting to chill their free speech, expressive association, and equal protection rights. The lawsuit further claims that the Department of Homeland Security encourages law enforcement officers throughout the nation to target and report citizens to federal officials as suspicious rightwing extremists and potential terrorists because of their political beliefs ...

Christians Suing Over Atheist 'Nativity' Scenes
"Santa Monica may bar Nativity and other seasonal displays in public spaces, a federal judge tentatively ruled Monday. In a closely watched case that has drawn national attention, Judge Audrey B. Collins of the US District Court in Los Angeles denied a church coalition's request that the court require the city to allow Nativity scenes to be displayed in Palisades Park this year, as it has for nearly 60 years. "The atheists won on this," said William J. Becker Jr., an attorney for the Santa Monica Nativity Scenes Committee, a coalition of 13 churches and the Santa Monica Police Officers Assn. Standing in front of TV news cameras outside the Edward R. Roybal Federal Building, Becker predicted that the court on Dec. 3 would also grant the city's request that his group's lawsuit be dismissed."* Steve Oh (COO of The Young Turks) and Jimmy Dore (The Jimmy Dore Show) discuss the retribution from Christian groups over Atheists' holiday displays in Santa Monica? Word of the Day: Beige Book
check us out on Facebook www.facebook.com Follow us @ twitter.com twitter.com Time now for Word of the Day where we break down a financial term for our smart viewer but maybe not the financial expert. Given the release of the Federal Reserve's Beige Book today, Beige Book is our word of the day. So what exactly is it? The Beige Book is a survey of the economic conditions in each of the 12 Federal Reserve Banking Districts, and it is also known as the Summary of Commentary on Current Economic Conditions by Federal Reserve District. It is published eight times per year, two weeks before each of the eight annual Federal Open Market Committee meetings. The report contains several sections, a main summary followed by the breakdown of the twelve federal districts. Each district report will highlight the region's major industries, so not all the reports mention the same sectors. In the Atlanta Fed region there is a particular focus on tourism, whereas the energy industry is highlighted in the Dallas report, and farming is prominent in the Kansas City Fed region. Staffers at each of the 12 regional banks compile the information after contacting businesses, economists and other financial experts by phone, through questionnaires and email. The businesses range from retailers and home builders to hotels and restaurant owners. The Fed staff produces a number of books for the FOMC that are known by color. The Beige Book was originally the Red Book; the Red Book discussed specific ...

Unconstitutional NDAA Provision Blocked By Federal Judge
Via The Huffington Post: "A day before Congress weighs an amendment to end indefinite military detentions in the US, a federal judge Wednesday ruled the law that allows the practice unconstitutional. Saying the measure has "chilling impact on First Amendment rights," US District Judge Katherine Forrest, of New York's Eastern District, found that a group of reporters and activists who brought the lawsuit had no way of knowing whether they could be subjected to it. That makes it an unconstitutional infringement on the First Amendment's free speech right and the Fifth Amendment's right to due process, Forrest said in a written opinion. The lead plaintiffs -- Pulitzer Prize winner Chris Hedges of the Nation Institute and Tangerine Bolen, who runs the website RevolutionTruth -- argued that they conceivably could be grabbed under the law because they deal with sources that US authorities may deem to fall under the law, Section 1021 of the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act...".* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down. *Read more from Michael McAuliff: www.huffingtonpost.com Subscribe to The Young Turks: bit.ly Find out how to watch The Young Turks on Current by clicking here: www.current.com The Largest Online New Show in the World. "A federal judge on Wednesday permanently blocked the US military from enforcing a law allowing it to indefinitely detain anyone accused of aiding or participating in terrorism. Owned by the UNITED STATES CORPORATION?
The United States is not a land mass, it is a corporation. On January 22, 1783 Congress ratified a contract for the repayment of 21 loans that the UNITED STATES had already received dating from February 28, 1778 to July 5, 1782. Now the UNITED STATES Inc. owes the King money which is due January 1, 1788 from King George via France. King George funded both sides of the Revolutionary War. On September 17, 1787 twelve State delegates approve the Constitution. The States have now become Constitutors. Now the Articles of Confederation which were declared in force March 1, 1781 States in Article 12: On August 4th, 1790 an Act was passed which was Titled.-An Act making provision for the payment of the Debt of the United States. This can be found at 1 US Statutes at Large pages 138-178. This Act for all intents and purposes abolished the States and Created the Districts. If you don't believe it look it up. The Act set up Federal Districts, here in Pennsylvania we got two. In this Act each District was assigned a portion of the debt. The next step was for the states to reorganize their governments which most did in 1790. This had to be done because the States needed to legally bind the people to the debt. The original State Constitutions were never submitted to the ...

Looters who are taking advantage of the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy are posting photographs of their stolen goods on Twitter and bragging about how they plan to carry out more thefts and violence. Shocking images posted to the social networking website depict individuals who appear to be working together boasting about how they have stolen laptops, TV's, and other electronics from both stores and private homes that fell victim to the hurricane. www.infowars.com A state police officer in New Mexico is being sued after he allegedly tasered a child in a school playground for no reason other than he refused to clean the cop's patrol car. A. JOURNALISTS OF THE YEAR
A1. PRINT (Over 50,000 circulations)
Patrick Range McDonald, LA Weekly
Comments: "Range" is an appropriate middle name. What incredibly
detailed reporting on a variety of complicated topics. What an ability to
make us feel as if we know the players. What skill in explaining messy
situations. The very essence of solid journalism.

Fallen Soldiers"
HM: Mariel Garza, Los Angeles Daily News Editorials
A2. PRINT (Under 50,000 circulation)
Radley Balko, Reason Magazine
Comment: ―Radley Balko is one of those throw-back journalists that
understands the power of groundbreaking reporting and how to make a
significant impact through his work. Time and time again, his stories cause
readers to stop, think, and most significantly, take action.
Congratulations!‖

the story content. I enjoyed the writers' use of sensory details and factual

this piece fun to read.

Comments: Documents a groundswell of democracy while explaining a
new law through a real-world prism. Powerful. Incredibly well-sourced and
informative, yet provides a human touch. The story of poor minorities trying
to make a change documented how the masses can move the
establishment. Inspiring to others, this story shows what newspaper do like

Senator Kate Lundy speaks about the future of the Australian National Capital
Please find the original blog post with additional information at http://www.katelundy.com.au/2009/09/25/creating-a-new-nations-capital-the-griffins-vision-for-canberra/
Introduction by Anne Lyons, Assist Director General at the National Archives of Australia
Welcome ladies and gentlemen to the National Archives of Australia. My name is Anne Lyons and I'm the Assistant Director General here at the National Archives. Firstly I'd like to acknowledge the Ngunnawal people the traditional custodians of the land we meet on today. It's my pleasure to welcome Kate Lundy, Senator for the Australian Capital Territory and member of the National Archives Advisory Council to deliver today's Speaker's Corner "Creating a new Nation's Capital". Senator Lundy has represented the Australian Capital Territory in the Australian Federal Parliament as a member of the Australian Labor Party since 1996. She's held many portfolios in opposition, including Information Technology, Manufacturing, Consumer Affairs, Local Government, Sport and Health Promotion. Elected for the 5th time as part of the Rudd Labor Government, Senator Lundy is currently the chair of the Joint Standing Committee for the National Capital and External Territories, and is a long standing active member of the Senate Environment, Communications and Arts Committee.
Senator Lundy's passion for Canberra is reflected in her interest in the National Capital plan's origins, and it's ongoing relevance to a vibrant 21st century national capital for all Australian's to share and enjoy.
Being an enthusiastic rower, Senator Lundy has the opportunity to regularly enjoy Lake Burley Griffin and the surrounding inspiring landscape design, and the remarkable geometry that makes - by virtue of the Griffin Plan - Canberra itself a work of art. Today we're delighted that Senator Lundy's presenting a personal perspective on Canberra's design. She'll focus on the creation of the nation's capital, with reference to Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahoney Griffin: their background and influences, their roots in Chicago, and the implications of these international links.
To complement this lecture we're delighted to have on display a selection of the Griffin's original renderings. The items are a treasured part of the National Archives collection, and we're especially thrilled to be able to present a rare viewing of the largest of these plans. The triptych of the view from Mount Ainslie. I encourage you to view them after the presentation if you haven't already done so, and after the presentation we'll direct you down to where those drawings are.
So without any further words from me, I'd like to introduce Senator Kate Lundy.
Transcript of Senator Lundy's speech
Creating a New Nation’s Capital
Musings on Canberra’s design origins
Senator Kate Lundy
20 September 2009
I want to begin my presentation today … in New York, 2009. The Guggenheim Museum has, for many months, been host to a remarkable retrospective exhibition in honour of the architect: Frank Lloyd Wright.
I had the privilege to view this exhibition whilst on a family holiday early in the northern hemisphere summer and it inspired me to explore further the relationship between the famous, if not notorious, American architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, and his contemporary, the renowned, certainly in this city the renowned, Walter Burley Griffin.
What I saw at this exhibition were vast renderings of future cities envisaged but never built– and they all impacted with a real feeling of familiarity, of recognition of century-old, lofty ideals expressed through these imposing works of art and their accompanying interpretations. Why? Because there, in the middle of the museum mile in New York City, I was seeing and hearing a version, an interpretation of the ideas that sit at the heart of Canberra. The forces which inspired the Griffins to produce their visionary design of Canberra were also an inspiration for Frank Lloyd Wright, with his ‘living city’, or so-called ‘broadacre city’: Wright’s city in the landscape.
This wonderful New York moment got me thinking, speculating on the nature of the relationship between Frank Lloyd Wright, Walter Burley Griffin and his life partner, Marion Mahony-- and how it was that we were living the vision, seemingly expressed by Frank Lloyd Wright later in his career, right here in our national capital in Australia. But in this room, we all know that the Griffin design came WELL BEFORE the Wright designs I was looking at in the Guggenheim. Indeed, the Griffins produced their masterwork heaps before the world knew anything much at all about Wright.
So my journey was one of delving into the source of this inspiration that, by circumstance and serendipity, meant that I found myself gazing at stylish renderings of Wright’s vision for an organic Baghdad at one with the landscape – his “broadacre city” – but I felt I was seeing a blood relation of Canberra!

DHS "Arming Itself to The Teeth" for Massive Civil Unrest
Following controversy over its purchase of around 1.2 billion bullets in the last six months alone, the Department of Homeland Security has put out a new solicitation for over 200 million more rounds of ammunition, some of which are designated to be used by snipers. A series of new solicitations posted on the FedBizOpps website show that the DHS is looking to purchase 200 million rounds of .223 rifle ammunition over the next four years, as well as 176000 rounds of .308 caliber 168 grain hollow point boat tail (HPBT) rounds in addition to 25000 rounds of blank .308 caliber bullets. As James Smith over at the Prepper Podcast website highlights, "It is the type of ammunition and not necessarily the quantity that is troubling." Smith points out that the DHS' acquisition of .308 rounds is of concern because they are set to be used by well-trained snipers. "All of the sniper grade ammunition is being used by trained, or in-the-process-of-being-trained snipers," writes Smith, noting that the math adds up to 135384 potential kills for the snipers to make, using the 176000 rounds of ammunition, basing the figures on the fact that United States Army and Marine Corps snipers in the Vietnam War expended 1.3 rounds of ammunition for each claimed and verified kill. www.infowars.com by Paul Joseph Watson ____________________________________________________________________ Federal Judge Reinstates Unconstitutional NDAA Late Monday night a federal judge in New York, Raymond Lohier ...

Abby rounds out the show citing the hypocrisy of the DOJ taking two years to call out BP even though they have been awarding them contracts ever since they caused the largest environmental crisis in the history of the world. ABOUT BREAKING THE SET: A brand new show on the RT Network hosted by Abby Martin. There are way too many rules set in society that prop up the establishment -- an establishment that works to divide and conquer the people. 'Breaking the Set' seeks to smash through the Left/Right Paradigm set in the media and political establishment to find the middle ground: the truth. It is a show that cuts through that pre-established narrative which tells the people what to think and what to ...

Long-Term Solitary Confinement Lawsuit By Pelican Bay Prisoners
"The prolonged use of solitary confinement at a high-security prison in California "strips prisoners of their basic humanity" and amounts to illegal torture, a human rights group charged in a federal lawsuit filed on Thursday. The suit, filed on behalf of prisoners by the Center for Constitutional Rights in US District Court in Oakland, Calif., calls for an end to prolonged solitary confinement at Pelican Bay State Prison in northern California. Hundreds of inmates held in the prison's "security housing unit" spend 22.5 hours a day in total isolation, leaving their cells for just roughly 90 minutes a day to exercise, alone, in a small concrete enclosure...".* Ana Kasparian, John Iadarola, and former prosecutor Steve Oh discuss on The Young Turks. *Read more from John Rudolf at The Huffington Post: www.huffingtonpost.com Support The Young Turks by Subscribing bit.ly Like Us on Facebook: www.fb.com Follow Us on Twitter: twitter.com Find out how to watch The Young Turks on Current by clicking here: www.current.com
