WORLD TRAVEL.- SOUTHEAST ASIA
Southeast Asia (or Southeastern Asia) is a subregion of Asia, consisting of the countries that are geographically south of China, east of India and north of Australia. The region lies on the intersection of geological plates, with heavy seismic and volcanic activity. Southeast Asia consists of two geographic regions: the Asian mainland and island arcs and archipelagoes to the east and southeast. The mainland section consists of Burma, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam and Peninsular Malaysia while the maritime section consists of Brunei, East Malaysia, East Timor, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Singapore.[1] Papua New Guinea is an observer in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, as is East Timor. Geographically speaking southern China, Taiwan,[2] Hong Kong[3][4] and Macau[5] are sometimes grouped in the Southeast Asia subregion, although politically they are rarely grouped as such. The same is true for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands of India.[6][7] Austronesian peoples predominate in this region. The major religions are Islam and Buddhism, followed by Christianity. However, a wide variety of religions are found throughout the region, including many Hindu and animist-influenced practices

South East Asia
South East Asia is a fascinating, atmospheric and exotic world full of unspoiled nature and cultural treasures. A region in which both past and present live side by side and unite in a wonderful way. Myanmar, The Land of Golden Pagodas: for decades the rulers of what was once known as Burma closed the country's doors to the outside world and many of its fine religious sanctuaries were badly neglected but they have now gradually been given the respect that they deserve. Inlay Lake is home to the Inthas, one of the many tribes that came to Myanmar from various of South East Asia's neighboring countries. Throughout the area are the floating plantations of the Inthas on which tomatoes, cucumbers and beans are cultivated. A journey on the Shan State Express provides passengers with a fascinating insight into the life of the Shan people whose lives are dominated by agriculture. The northwest of Myanmar is known for its many splendid sacred buildings such as Mingun's Hsinbyume Pagoda, that was built at the beginning of the nineteenth century. It was constructed according to the architectural rules of Hindu Buddhist cosmology and symbolizes the World Mountain of Meru. One of Taiwan's most important centers of arts and crafts is located in the west of the island, Lukang, an ancient and idyllic town full of age-old traditions whose large number of beautiful temples is most impressive. In Cambodia and around 40 kilometres north of Phnom Penh, is the former capital city of Udong ...

Travelling backpacking, Gap year through South East Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Bali!
All the best bits of my recent travels caught on camera. If you are undecided about where to go travelling in the future, take a look. Travelling/backpacking across Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur, Borneo), Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, , Australia , New Zealand and Bali. I spent 4 weeks in Malaysia working in orang-utan conservation, half my time spent volunteering in zoo and the other half living with the Iban tribe deep in the Bornean Jungle. The rest of my time was spent backpacking from place to place, sight-seeing , partying, riding tuktuks, motorbikes, elephants..and ostrich's?!?!?!

This was filmed during August 2011. This is my interpretation of the fjord landscape in western Norway. Having spent countless days here, I really enjoy even the smallest parts of this landscape. Like hidden streams or dwarfish waterfalls outside of the beaten track that offer a great deal of solitude.
This movie was editing "on the road" and uploaded over 3G network from southeast asia. I have decided to spend the next two years creating a 60min blu-ray/dvd. As a landscape photographer, I have visited some really amazing places over the years, and now I will be revisiting many of them for this movie. It is a full-on project, and as a result I have now sold my apartment, print-studio, car and other belongings.
I thought Beethoven´s Moonlight Sonata would be appropriate, and asked my friend Marika Takeuchi if she could record it in a studio. She made a fantastic version which I love very much. Thank you!

This Episode features impressions from 2 weeks Thailand during the rain season. We were basically just driving almost every day to get North as fast as possible.

Episode 2 Info:
0:01 - Pai
Pai is actually in Northern Thailand so we got there later than the edit would suggest. However, I wanted to put it into the beginning as it's a fun contrast to the quiet shots afterwards. It is somewhat of a Hippie-Mecca with lots of alternative tourists but also has this festival which seemed very authentic to us.
1:34 - Bangkok (Part 1)
We visited Bangkok twice on our trip. So there's a lot more to come in Episode 5. This time, it's only a handful of impressions from the rainy days.
2:35 - North Thailand (general)
After Bangkok is was raining a week straight. We were going into the mountains in the north-western Region driving on mud roads and fighting the water inside the car as it was leaking through on many spots. Camping is no fun, when it's pouring.
2:48 - Doi Inthanon
Doi Inthanon is the highest mountain in Thailand with 2565 Meters. But the peak is still covered with high trees so you don't really get any spectacular view. However, the fog within the forest up there made a great scenery.
3:00 - Refugee Kids
We accidentally drove in this area where there was a refugee camp streching over many kilometers at the Myanmar boarder. They wouldn't let us in but we could see many kids playing outside on the streets. Later we found a Myanmar refugee which told us alot about the region and why there are all there.
3:48 - Chiang Mai
This was one of the most fun cities we visited with tons of young native people studying there so we had some great nights going out. Luckily, we didn't film any of it.
After Chiang Mai we drove straight to Chiang Khong all the way North East at the Laos boarder to cross it the next morning.

This is the first out of five Episodes about a trip to SouthEast Asia in Fall 2010. Stefan, Clemens and I were travelling in a Landrover through Malaysia, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia for 2 months. Of course, we brought our little DSLRs to capture every great moment of this memorable journey.

Music by:
Uzi & Ari - "Mountain / Molehill"
The Travelling Band - "Sundial"
Episode 1 Info:
0:43 - Kuala Lumpur
The city is an interesting clash of cultures, with the Muslim people, the Chinese traders, colonial buildings and a huge modern western influence. If you get a chance to go there, don't miss to eat and drink at Bukit Bintang (2:11), our most favorite place in the city.
2:48 - Port Klang
After 5 days waiting and organizing the handling at the port, we could pick up our Landrover at the harbor. We just bought some supplies before heading North the same day (check out the map below)
4:02 - Cameron Highlands
Already on the next day of driving, we realized that something was wrong with one of the bearings. We had extra parts for the car, however, we couldn't change it on our own. But because of the old colonial days, a majority of those people here in the mountains were driving Landrovers. Those cars were basically everywhere so it didn't take long to find some people that were able to help us. Those friendly locals took us to their house where they had some old-school tools and fixed the bearing. All they wanted in return is to drink some beer with us at a campfire at their house. Good people!
5:18 - Offroad
Our Landrover-friends told us about some "nice little offroad" the next day. And this turned out to be a road that hasn't been used for years. We needed to get dead trees out the way and watch for ditches really carefully. It took us the whole day to get through and in the end, when it got dark we actually managed to slip into a ditch with one wheel. Our trip was almost over already at that time, it was a matter of inches for the car to fall down. I couldn't film this as I was pretty shocked and, of course, we needed work and pull out the car with the winch. But we were lucky enough to get it out and the trip continued.
6:02 - Road North
After the Highlands, we quickly drove all the way North to Thailand, with a little stop-over at Georgetown.

Vacavlog - Southeast Asia - Day 6/7 - Holiday In Cambodia!
Many more videos to come, don't miss any. Please subscribe above! :) Day 6: We were finally getting used to the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, so perfect time to hop on a bus and head to Siem Reap, the home of Angkor Wat. It was a pretty uneventful day, but exciting at the same time. We had some trouble crossing the border and met some nice ladies from Austria. There was such a big difference from the people in Cambodia vs. Thailand. They truly have their own special charm. Day 7: We woke up early enough to leave by 5AM for a sunrise view of the famous Angkor Wat. It did not exactly go to plan, but was still a great time. Afterwards, we headed over to the famous pub street and then later to hang out with some locals. Cambodia has been such a treat so far.
