Rio Grande (1950)
"Rio Grande" by John FordCopyright Fair Use Fair use explicitly allows use of copyrighted materials for educational purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Rather than listing exact limits of fair use, copyright law provides four standards for determination of the fair use exemption: A) Purpose of use: Copying and using selected parts of copyrighted works for specific educational purposes qualifies as fair use, especially if the copies are made spontaneously, are used temporarily, and are not part of an anthology. B) Nature of the work: For copying paragraphs from a copyrighted source, fair use easily applies. For copying a chapter, fair use may be questionable. C) Proportion/extent of the material used: Duplicating excerpts that are short in relation to the entire copyrighted work or segments that do not reflect the "essence" of the work is usually considered fair use. D) The effect on marketability: If there will be no reduction in sales because of copying or distribution, the fair use exemption is likely to apply. This is the most important of the four tests for fair use

Dangerous Playground - Southern Pacific RailRoad 1950's - Educational Safety Film about Trains
This is an educational safety film released by the Southern Pacific Railroad in the 1950's showing the dangers that face unsuspecting children when they use the railroad property as a playground. Also shows other unacceptable behavious such as throwing rocks at trains or putting objects on the tracks, and their potential consequences including train derailment or personal injury. From a rail forum on "Altamont Press" I've learnt the sequence with the boy crossing the trestle was filmed on the NWP's Tiburon Branch (trestle over "Blackie's Pasture.") and the scenes of the PA with the kids and the engineer were filmed at SP's East Oakland yard. From en.wikipedia.org The Southern Pacific Transportation Company (reporting mark SP), earlier Southern Pacific Railroad (1865--1885) and Southern Pacific Company (1885--1969), and usually simply called the Southern Pacific or (from the railroad's initials) Espee, was an American railroad. The railroad was founded as a land holding company in 1865, later acquiring the Central Pacific Railroad by lease. By 1900, the Southern Pacific Company had grown into a major railroad system which incorporated many smaller companies, such as the Texas and New Orleans Railroad and Morgan's Louisiana and Texas Railroad, and which extended from New Orleans through Texas to El Paso, across New Mexico and through Tucson, to Los Angeles, throughout most of California including San Francisco and Sacramento; it also included the Central Pacific Railroad ...

California Zephyr "Vista Dome Adventure" - 1950's Passenger Trains in the USA
1950's promotional film featuring the California Zephyr running between Chicago and San Francisco. The film covers the three railroads the train travelled over with plenty of lineside footage as well as scenes filmed inside the diner, sleeper and vista dome observation cars. From en.wikipedia.org The California Zephyr (the CZ, or "Silver Lady") was a passenger train operated jointly by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad (CB&Q;), Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad (D&RGW;) and Western Pacific Railroad (WP). The CB&Q;, D&RGW; and WP christened "The most talked about train in America" on March 19,1949 with the first departure to happen the following day. It was purposely scheduled so that the train passed through the most spectacular scenery in the daylight.

The Royal Gorge 1950's Transcontinental Train Adventure
Ride "America's best loved travel adventure!", the Royal Gorge transcontinental train from St Loius to San Francisco via the Rockies. The film shows 1950's steam and diesel trains from the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad, Western Pacific Railroad and Missouri Pacific Railroad. From en.wikipedia.org The Royal Gorge (also Grand Canyon of the Arkansas) is a canyon on the Arkansas River near Cañon City, Colorado. With a width of 50 feet (15 m) at its base and a few hundred feet at its top, and a depth of 1250 feet (380 m) in places, the 10-mile-long canyon is a narrow, steep gorge through the granite of Fremont Peak. It is one of the deepest canyons in Colorado. In the 1890s Royal Gorge was used as a passenger route for transcontinental rail travel. As many as four trains per day went through the gorge, though in time the establishment of alternate routes through the mountains made the Royal Gorge fall from favor for transcontinental use, and passenger train service on the main line was discontinued in 1967.

Ken Curtis And The Sons Of Pioneers - What Makes A Man To Wander
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR! Ken Curtis joined the Sons of the Pioneers as a lead singer from 1949 to 1952. Now, for the seemingly ever increasing number of people who are saying, "who were they?", the Sons of the Pioneers were and are the foremost western vocal group in history. Ken's big hits with the group included "Room Full of Roses" and "Riders in the Sky". The Sons also worked in radio and on film soundtracks, including Rio Grande (1950), for director John Ford, who was a big fan. The Searchers (1956) is considered by many to be a true American masterpiece of filmmaking, and the best, most influential, and perhaps most-admired film of director John Ford. The opening credits (portrayed in a Playbill fontface) are displayed before a backdrop of an adobe brick wall. The words of the romantic Stan Jones ballad (sung by The Sons of the Pioneers) that play during the credits, What Makes a Man to Wander?, define the central theme of the film - one man's wanderings and obsessive search: What makes a man to wander? What makes a man to roam? What makes a man leave bed and board And turn his back on home? Ride away, ride away, ride away. The Searchers (Der schwarze Falke)tells the emotionally complex story of a perilous, hate-ridden quest and Homeric-style odyssey of self-discovery after a Comanche massacre, while also exploring the themes of racial prejudice and sexism. Its meandering tale examines the inner psychological turmoil of a fiercely independent, crusading ...

Maureen O'Hara-A Woman of the Century!
This tribute includes clips, pictures, and a song from some of Maureen O'Hara's most famous theatrical films, in the order they were released. The picutres were all found on google, though it did take me awhile to find ones that aren't seen that much. I even took screenshots from the movies for some pictures. The songs I used are listed below: Tune Up - Albany Symphony Orchestra You Go To My Head - Bing Crosby Something to Live For - Ella Fitzgerald For Now For Always - Maureen O'Hara Forget Me Never - Elvis Presley I couldn't put the title of the films used on the clips/pictures as they appeared, although I did try. So, I'll list the movies down below. List starts after "The Hunchback of Notre Dame": Dance Girl Dance-1940 How Green Was My Valley-1941 The Black Swan-1942 This Land Is Mine-1943 The Fallen Sparrow-1943 Sinbad the Sailor-1947 Miracle on 34th Street-1947 Sitting Pretty-1948 Rio Grande-1950 Flame of Araby-1951 The Quiet Man-1951 (released 1952) Against All Flags-1952 The Long Gray Line-1955 The Wings of Eagles-1957 Our Man in Havana-1959 The Parent Trap-1961 Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation-1962 Spencer's Mountain-1963 McClintock!-1963 Big Jake-1971 Maureen has made over 60 films, not all are shown in the video obviously. I tried to pick more of her most famous films to show clips/pictures from. If you have any questions as to which pictures/clips are from what films don't hesitate to ask me! Please rate, comment, and favorite!

Bold Fenian Men
Testo Twas down by the glenside, I met an old woman She was picking young nettles and she scarce saw me coming I listened awhile to the song she was humming Glory O, Glory O, to the bold Fenian men 'Tis fifty long years since I saw the moon beaming On strong manly forms and their eyes with hope gleaming I see them again, now, in all my daydreaming Glory O, Glory O, to the bold Fenian men I passed on my way, God be praised that I met her Be life long or short, sure I'll never forget her We may have brave men, but we'll never have better Glory O, Glory O, to the bold Fenian men.
