Cave Diving Floridan Aquifer
Taken from "Polluting the Fountain of Youth" (c) Kurtis Productions for A&E; TV (Fair Use Clause 1976 Copyright Act) to educate and build support for action on environmental issues - especially at this time when our own Governor Rick Scott and Senator Marco Rubio support drilling oil wells in The Everglades (stupid). My caving instructor, Harry Averill, is one of the divers and worked with Karst Productions. Support them by visiting KarstProductions.com where you'll find this and other titles concerning the Floridan acquifer on DVD. Also please visit CleanWaterNetwork.org and StJohnsRiverkeeper.org

Guarding the Ogallala
The battle over the proposed 1700 mile Keystone XL pipeline has raged across the political corridors of the nation's capitol. But in the pristine prairies of the upper Midwest, ranchers on the frontlines have been equally engaged in the fight. At stake is the country's most important groundwater resource—the Ogallala Aquifer—which provides drinking water to residents in eight states and is the sustaining force for much of America's breadbasket.

From the Earth and Back Again: Alberta Saline Aquifer Project
The Alberta Saline Aquifer Project (ASAP) is an industry initiative being led by Enbridge Inc. to identify deep saline aquifers in Alberta that could be used in a carbon sequestration pilot project. ASAP is a true collaborative effort and 38 organizations have participated in the project's first phase. Saline aquifers are deep underground formations that contain brine or salt water that is not suitable for drinking or agricultural purposes. Once suitable aquifers have been identified, they can be injected with carbon dioxide - and then carefully monitored to ensure that their integrity remains intact. For more information on ASAP, please visit albertaasap.com

Underground Aquifer in the Pajaro Valley
Andy Fisher is a hydrogeologist at UC Santa Cruz who studies the interactions between surface water and ground water. Over the past decade his research has focused on the Pajaro Valley in California. The Pajaro Valley aquifer provides more than 90 percent of the water used by the area's residents, businesses, and farmers. He explains that this crucial water supply is in grave danger of running out. [2/2010] [Science] [Show ID: 17128]

Water Scarcity on the Texas High Plains: The Ogallala Aquifer
This short documentary provides a glimpse into an unusually important, and long-running research and demonstration project, called the Texas Coalition for Sustainable Integrated Systems Research (TeCSIS) and the Texas Alliance for Water Conservation (TAWC) that started with a grant from SARE to form TeCSIS. This combined project (TeCSIS/TAWC) involves scores of scientific researchers, educational institutions, government agencies, and local area farmers (producers) that are trying to find answers to extend the life of the aquifer, and promote more sustainable, economic viability for this invaluable agricultural region. Crops (Gerco de Ruijter)
CROPS is a stopmotion film on centre pivot irrigation in the USA.
Long water-sprinkler arms rotate around a central pivot, irrigating circular fields of verdant crops in desert or semiarid environments. Often a well, located at the centre of the circle, pumps water up from vast aquifers in the rock formations below, or Rio Grande water is canalized and redirected into the deserts feeding the well. Once the Rio Grande reaches Mexico, it's riverbed has dried.
This trailer was made using 1000 circles cropped in Google Earth.
It is the starting point for a larger project to be released this year.
Score by Michel Banabila.

Aquifer
Aquifer depicts a personal experience of being in a shower at midnight when the only light I used to see is a small torch. This came after the interest in the effects of such pin light can have on a small space surrounded in tiles and glass and the effect on water as light catches every drop and splash as it drips down the cool smooth tiles.
It is filmed in a very subdued blue atmosphere that can be quite calming to watch as shadows lick the damp tiles and glass as the slow and intoxicating noise of the soundtrack whispers a lonely song. We are then fully submerged into a thematic aquifer of dripping, splashing and prickling coldness as it intimately reacts against the characters skin. Ambience takes a hold on the overall feel of the movie and casts a provokingly low light that transcends us into the depths of the subconscious where slippery thoughts, images and noises are conjured by my experiences with showering at a time when I am at the edge of sleep.
The soundtrack that plays with the film is Ghosts 5, by Nine Inch Nails. It is one of the many spontaneous songs written by them that in turn fits perfectly with the pleasantly calm atmospheric conditions of the set.

Recharging aquifers.
India has over 22 million bore-wells and its dependancy on groundwater is estimated at 65% of total water demand. Borewells are running deep and running dry. Artificial recharge through rainwater harvesting is one approach to top up bore-well waters alongwith demand management. Rooftop rainwater harvesting, filtering the rainwater and then recharging it directly into the borewell is one approach. This experiment tries to understand how much rainwater can be directly fed into the bore-well during rains. Looks like a lot...

Recharge well - Rainwater harvesting for aquifer recharge
Recharge wells can pick storm water and send it to the aquifer. This can mitigate urban flooding, enhance ground water levels and make available well water for supplemental purpose. Depending on lithology conditions , ground water levels and recharge rates these recharge wells need to be designed. In Bangalore a 3 feet diameter and 20 feet deep well works in most places and can cover 250 square metre of plot area including roof area well.
