LOS ANGELES (CNS/FOX 11) - An assured Pharrell Williams told a Los Angeles jury Wednesday that he was "inspired'' by R&B; great Marvin Gaye during the creation of "Blurred Lines,'' but never considered plagiarizing portions of the Motown singer's 1977 chart-topper "Got to Give It Up'' while writing and recording the Robin Thicke mega-hit.

Williams, called to the stand on the sixth day of the federal copyright infringement trial, calmly denied assertions by the Gaye family that key passages in the multimillion-selling "Blurred Lines'' echo similar parts of the disco-tinged "Got to Give It Up.''
Under questioning from his own attorney in a standing-room-only courtroom, the 41-year-old singer, composer and producer said he had loved Gaye's music since he was a child and his parents played Motown records around the house.
"The last thing you want to do is take something of someone else's when you love him,'' Williams testified. "If I had, I would have dealt with it properly. It's the fair and right and just thing to do.''
