High quality video of a live performance of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough"
In 1976 Marvin Gayes marriage was about to collapse. He was also just about to be imprisoned because of non-paid child-support to his wife Anna. Reputedly Motown bailed Marvin out and he was suggested to leave US for a some time. Promoter Jeffrey Kruger arranged a European tour to start up in September 1976 and it also included a long waited visit to England for the first time in ten years. This concert in question was held in 10th October before sell-out audience in Edenhall concert hall Amsterdam. The track listing is pretty much identical compared to the Album "Marvin Gaye - Live At The London Palladium!" which was recorded on the same tour seven days earlier. Only songs missing are "Trouble Man" and "God is Love". All the other tracks are exactly (although in different order) the same as on this DVD, even including the content of medleys. These Medleys are actually one of the biggest problems in this concert. In a way the whole concert is one gigantic medley, while atleast what I was expecting, were the full versions of the songs. If compared to the performances in the "Live in Montreux" DVD this concert feels pretty boring. Marvin himself explained the reason for these medleys in Sharon Davis´ biography book like this; "I got a list of songs from my promoter. He told me all the tracks that were popular in England and I just put them into medley form for few minutes because I hadn´t done them in years. In fact, when I sing them in the States people go for popcorn and hot dogs. The only way you can perform an old record in the States is if you are very animated about it because American´s don´t want memories. They´re not nostalgic people. So I can´t understand why British audiences want to hear the old stuff because for me the songs are very painful, especially those with Tammi Terrell..." The show starts up with two songs from the "I Want you" album; "All The Way Round" and "Since I Had You". The effect of constant eating of junk food and irregular sleeping habits can bee seen on Marvins body as his appearance looks a bit sleepy and swollen. The song "Come Get To This" leads the concert onwards as an intro to an extended version of "Let´s Get It On" in which Marvin really "gets it on" in seducing the female viewers in the audience. After "Let´s Get It On" begins the chain of medleys which won´t end until the finale which is the "Distant Lover". First medley includes some biggest 60´s hits like "Pride and Joy", "I Heard It Through The Grapewine" ect. The second medley consisted of songs from the "What´s Going On?" album starting with "Inner City Blues" and then leading through "What´s Going On?" to "Save The Children". For the final medley of classic duet songs, Marvin was joined on stage by a lady called Florence Lyles. With Florence Marvin sings through songs like "You´re All I Need" and "Ain´t No Mountain High Enough", but unfortunately Flo´s voice sounds really flat compared to original duet partners like Tammi Terrels or Kim Westons. She really doesn´t make any justice for these songs although It´s only my own oppinion. The Finale "Distant lover" is probably the best act in this concert though I think a better performance can be heard on the "Live At The London Palladium" album.

Despite his commercial success, Marvin Gaye was troubled by internal conflict and relationship problems. The first two clips, from Marvin Gaye: What's Going On, explore a difficult period in Marvin's life, when his first marriage was on the rocks. The remaining clips are extended versions of interviews with people who knew Marvin during his time at Motown. Gladys Knight, of Gladys Knight and the Pips, worked with Marvin at Motown from the mid '60s to early '70s. Songwriting duo Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson wrote several duets for Marvin and Tammi Terrell, including "Ain't No Mountain High Enough." Otis Williams, the last surviving original member of the Temptations, recalls a special moment with Marvin at a piano in a Motown studio. Weldon McDougal worked in promotion at Motown and helped generate interest in Marvin's albums. Ben Fong-Torres interviewed Marvin for a piece in Rolling Stone.

What's Going On is the eleventh studio album by soul musician Marvin Gaye, released May 21, 1971, on the Motown-subsidiary label Tamla Records. Recording sessions for the album took place in June 1970 and March--May 1971 at Hitsville U.S.A., Golden World and United Sound Studios in Detroit and at The Sound Factory in West Hollywood, California. The first Marvin Gaye album credited as being produced by the artist himself, What's Going On is a unified concept album consisting of nine songs, most of which lead into the next. It has also been categorized as a song cycle; the album ends on a reprise of the album's opening theme. The album is told from the point of view of a Vietnam War veteran returning to the country he had been fighting for, and seeing nothing but injustice, suffering and hatred. What's Going On was the first album on which Motown Records' main studio band, the group of session musicians known as the Funk Brothers, received an official credit. The album features introspective lyrics and socially conscious themes of drug abuse, poverty, and the Vietnam War. What's Going On was both an immediate commercial and critical success and has endured as a classic of early-1970s soul. A deluxe edition set of the album was released on February 27, 2001, and featured a rare live concert shot at Washington, D.C.'s Kennedy Center from May 1972. In worldwide critics', artists' and public surveys, it has been voted one of the landmark recordings in pop music history and is considered to be one of the greatest albums ever made. In 2003, the album was ranked number six on Rolling Stone's list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time", placing that same position nine years later ♫ Tracklist ♫ 0:00 (1) "What's Going On" 3:53 (2) "What's Happening Brother" 6:36 (3) "Flyin' High (In the Friendly Sky)" 10:26 (4) "Save the Children" 14:30 (5) "God Is Love" 16:11 (6) "Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)" 19:27 (7) "Right On" 26:59 (8) "Wholy Holy" 30:08 (9) "Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)"

CNN 2015-04-11Marvin Pentz Gay, Jr. (April 2, 1939 – April 1, 1984), better known by his stage name Marvin Gaye (he added the 'e' as a young man), was an acclaimed American singer-songwriter and musician with a three-octave vocal range, who achieved major success in the 1960s and 1970s as an artist for the Motown Records label. He was shot dead by his father on April 1, 1984.
Starting his career as a member of the doo-wop group The Moonglows in the late 1950s, he ventured into a solo career after the group disbanded in 1960, signing with Motown Records subsidiary, Tamla. He started off as a session drummer, but later ranked as the label's top-selling solo artist during the 1960s. He was crowned "The Prince of Motown" and "The Prince of Soul". because of solo hits such as "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)", "Ain't That Peculiar", "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," and his duet singles with singers such as Mary Wells and Tammi Terrell.
His work in the early- and mid-1970s included the albums, What's Going On, Let's Get It On, and I Want You, which helped influence the quiet storm, urban adult contemporary, and slow jam genres. After a self-imposed European exile in the early 1980s, Gaye returned on the 1982 Grammy-Award winning hit, "Sexual Healing" and the Midnight Love album before his death.

Gaye is a commune in the Marne department in north-eastern France.
"Come Get to This" is a 1973 hit for American soul singer Marvin Gaye, released on the Tamla (Motown) label.
The song, released a few months after his seminal anthem of seduction, "Let's Get It On", was built among a fast-paced doo-wop-like recording.
This record was one of few recordings Gaye began recording when he cut the "What's Going On" single in 1970.
The song discusses the return of an old flame to the singer's arms. The song topped out at the Billboard Pop Singles Chart at #21 and peaked at #3 on Billboard's soul singles charts.
During Gaye's concerts afterwards, the singer performed a much slower blues-oriented version of the song setting it up as the build-up of "Let's Get It On".
Gaye's live version of the song was actually initiated by the sound of Marvin's Trouble Man album, which had a unique blues flavor of its own merit.
Singer Joe covered the song on his latest album, Signature.
Come Get To This
Marvin Gaye
Written by: Marvin Gaye
Girl, you've been gone away a real long time
Now I really went out of my mind
I miss your lovin' when you left, baby you did
Ah baby, come here, let me caress you
Ah ah baby your letters, ah tell me what you missed
Come here, sugar, and get to this
Ah baby, I want you here
I want to do something freaky to you
I want you to feel just what I felt ah
Ah baby, come get to this
Ooo remember, baby, how you made me feel just like a king
Ah, I've been waiting
I'm ready for you to start doin' the things
I'm trying to blow your mind
You're so fine, so petite, oh candy sweet
Ah, I've been waiting
Come here, baby, get to this
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Sweet love, sweet love, oh so good
Get back here from the depths, we have to get back
Oh, nothin's changed, you're still sweet as the mornin' rain
Girl, I'm standin' ready to
Love you, babe, make it good to you
Ooo I need your love
Don't make me wait, I can't wait
Oh I'm so impatient for your love
Come here, sweet sweet baby, get to this
Girl, I know you've been gone a long time
You nearly blew my mind, baby
Girl, you've been gone for so long
