Cycling from the Pyrenees to the Costa Brava in Catalonia is a great way to explore this diverse region. The Ruta Del Pirineu a la Costa Brava takes you through four very different regions of Catalonia giving you a great overall experience of the area. Starting at the small town of San Joan de Les Abadesses we spent three days cycling through the foothills of the Pyrenees all the way to Llançà on the Costa Brava taking in small villages, beautiful landscapes and fantastic, local food (and wine) along the way. ▲ THE ROUTE ▲ ✦ DAY 1: San Joan De Les Abadesses to Vall D'en Bas Leaving the small historic village of San Joan De Les Abadesses, we began our trip to Vall D'en Bas taking in the lovely town of Ripoll along the way before the big descent into Olot. ✦ DAY 2: Vall D'en Bas to Banyoles Continue on your cycling tour from the Pyrenees to Costa Brava, the road leads you from Olot to the magical beach forest, La Fageda de la Jordá. The fun starts again after a short climb with the fast hills taking you to the tranquil Lake Banyoles. ✦ DAY 3: Banyoles to Llançà Leaving Banyoles early, the route takes you to the incredible viewpoint of Sant Pere De Rodes. A short hike above this amazing, ancient monastery an incredible 360 degree panoramic view of the area, with the Pyrenees to the north and the beautiful beaches of the Costa Brava stretching out as far as the eye can see.
