Permafrost - (Laurena)
*Lyrics!* Itunes : dft.ba Amazon: alturl.com Facebook ( has pictures of the set and stuff) : www.facebook.com Also: stalledsatellites.tumblr.com Lyrics: Sometimes I feel like I am permafrost Alone in the tundra and really lost And to think that this is how I feel Like the ground is melting and nothing's real And in the taiga everybody knows That you shouldn't wander where the hemlock grows When the land is vast and the wind blow fast Will you stay with me if the darkness last? I know I have nothing to give so may as well give up and live You say I'm breaking your friends heart But meanwhile you're tearing mine apart So stop asking me if she loves you back If it's charm you have then it's courage you lack But I want your love and I want it now I'd ask you for it but I don't know how I want to hold you tight and I want to now I'd say I love you but I don't know how It's done X2 And I remember when we rode the bus Through the boreal forest and the winter must I put my head on your shoulder but you moved away I said I wasn't tired anyway And I pretended that I didn't care But I hid a few tears behind a lock of hair And I was tired and I needed sleep So I swallowed my pride and I changed seat Again So I'd rather you make up your mind A little faster, you're such a waste of time X2 And you wanted more but you needed less 'Cause you think that you're better than the rest And I wanted less but I needed more 'Cause you left all I had on the forest floor And In the mixed forest ...

Thawing Permafrost -- Changing Planet
Because of a warming atmosphere, permafrost -- the frozen ground that covers the top of the world -- has been thawing rapidly over the last three decades. But there is cause for concern beyond the far north, because the carbon released from thawing permafrost could raise global temperatures even higher. The Changing Planet series explores the impact that climate change is having on our planet, and is provided by the National Science Foundation (science360.gov & NBC Learn (www.nbclearn.com For related lesson plans, visit the Windows to the Universe project team at the National Earth Science Teachers Association at www.windows2universe.org

Fire and Ice: Permafrost Melt Spews Combustible Methane
Complete video at: fora.tv Environmentalist Dan Miller discusses a possible environmental threat from methane gas contained within melting permafrost. Miller claims the melting permafrost contains twice as much CO2 as Earth's entire atmosphere. ----- Dan Miller's presentation focuses on why the UN IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) reports are actually best case scenarios. For example, IPCC climate models do not include the effect of melting permafrost releasing greenhouse gases, even though the permafrost is melting now and it holds more greenhouse gases than all that mankind has ever released. Another example is that IPCC predictions of sea level rise only take into account thermal expansion of the oceans and melting of glaciers; the largest factor, disintegration of glaciers, was not included because it is hard to model. The result is that sea level rise will likely be substantially higher this century than the IPCC predicts. Miller discusses several other potential catastrophes that are not included in IPCC predictions and also discusses tipping points that could put climate change solutions out of our reach in years or decades, the psychology of climate change, and why it is difficult for people to respond to the threat posed by a warming earth. His talk concludes with a discussion of ways to address climate change and the risks and opportunities that companies face due to the climate crisis. - Berkeley Cybersalon Dan Miller is Managing Director of the ...

Christopher Burn: climate change and melting permafrost
Christopher Burn, a canadian geographer, tells us that global warming is causing the permafrost in western arctic and Yukon to melt. He says:I know of a building in Mayo that was unserviceable after 18 months () because the design did not accommodate the melting of the permafrost underneath the building. Arctic Permafrost Leaking Methane at Record Levels
According to the London Guardian, scientists have recorded a massive spike in the amount of a powerful greenhouse gas seeping from Arctic permafrost. The discovery highlights the risks of a dangerous climate tipping point.

Snow Kingdom: People vs. Permafrost
Watch more on RT's documentary channel rtd.rt.com Twenty people, five dog teams and nine snowmobiles are speeding through Russia's North towards the Arctic. The expedition's destination is a point in the Arctic Circle 66 degrees 33 minutes and 39 seconds north of the Equator. It is situated in the thick forests of an ancient land ruled by a witch by the name of Louhi. Snow lies everywhere, tents are homes, and fire is the only source of warmth. Will the team cope with the rigors of the journey and reach their destination? RT on Twitter http RT on Facebook www.facebook.com

PERMAFROST
PERMAFROST video By Damien Blottiére
Editing by Boas Kristjanson
“PERMAFROST” came to be on journey of three men and a camera over the glacial terrains of December in Iceland. Shot in -20°(C) temperatures, the conditions were both dazzling and dangerous. In one particular shot Damien was almost taken by the undercurrent of a wave when he was framing a shot of a rippling display of colours and movement on the horizon. Luckily we caught him and he held on to the tripod leash so the near instantly frozen boots were the only worry this time. I quickly recited the story of the missing travelers that had disappeared on the black beaches of Iceland as a further warning, not that it was needed.
There are many ways to express the vastness and majesty of seasonal terrains in my country but to truly grasp and capture their energy, you must traverse them and pit yourself against the elements. I offered the opportunity to mr. Damien Blottiére whose work I greatly admired and who was already familiar with the country and my work. In my preparation for the debut of my collection, I did a lot of traveling through obscure regions of my island and sought to capture some of the textures and colors in the materials and shapes I used to materialize the garments. Many of these locations we visited on our journey.
The title of the project refers to an environmental condition in the northern hemisphere where incredible amounts of pure carbon are stored in the earth in gaseous form. If this gas was released from under the ice cap that cover it, it would hasten the warming of the planet through increased amounts of CO2 in the atmosphere with disastrous results. If the ocean currents change dramatically and the Gulf-stream is derailed from the south coast of Iceland. There will be permanent winter.

Permafrost Melts
Permafrost, or permanently frozen ground, is soil, sediment, or rock that remains at or below 0°C for at least two years. It occurs both on land and beneath offshore Arctic continental shelves, and its thickness ranges from less than 1 meter to greater than 1000 meters. Seasonally frozen ground is near-surface soil that freezes for more than 15 days per year. Intermittently frozen ground is near-surface soil that freezes from one to 15 days per year. Frozen ground data are critical to understanding environmental change, validating models, and building and maintaining structures in seasonal frost and permafrost regions. Climate models and observations have both pointed to likely permafrost thawing in the 21st century. Permafrost: Insights from a Northern Hemisphere permafrost map and recent observations Permafrost regions occupy approximately 22.79 million square kilometers (about 24 percent of the exposed land surface) of the Northern Hemisphere (Zhang et al. 2003b). Permafrost occurs as far north as 84°N in northern Greenland, and as far south as 26°N in the Himalayas. Because reliable data on hemispheric-scale permafrost extent have only recently become available, this site provides just a snapshot of current permafrost conditions rather than time-series data. Exactly what is permafrost? Permafrost is not defined by soil moisture content, overlying snow cover, or location; it is defined solely by temperature. Any rock or soil remaining at or below 0°C for two or more ...
