Evolution of the Goodeidae and the Rise of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt
Animation 4. 3D visualization of a geophylogenetic chronogram of the Mexican endemic Goodeidae (Cyprinodontiformes) fish family (green, Webb et al., 2004) and a neighbour-joining tree of a nematode parasite Rhabdochona lichtenfelsi (red, Mejía-Madrid et al., 2007) with a fossil goodeidae (purple fish) and Miocene-Present drainage configurations including the Pleistocene Tenochtitlan-Xalisco-Tollocan palaeolake system (amended from de Cserna and Alvarez, 1995). Dashed-lines show the reticulate connections between drainage basins and within-drainage ecological regions (fluvial and lacustrine). Drainage layers from bottom to top are; 0-1 Ma., 1-3 Ma., 3-9 Ma., 9-12 Ma. and 12-14 Ma. The nematode is vertically positioned to show the correlation between observations (red cylinders) and the margin of the large palaeolake despite the difference in estimated root node age and the estimated age of the lake.

Overlap-Disjunction Analysis Geophylogeny
Overlap-Disjunction Analysis (ODA) geophylogeny of the Goodeidae family of freshwater fish, Central Mexico. Tree nodes are located at the centroids of the region of disjunction or overlap between sister clade (subtree) ranges. Disjuction and marginal overlap between sister clade ranges are orange, high overlap is green. Tribe-level subclades are differentially coloured. Observations of terminal taxa are treated as polytomies from the first internal node. The root of the tree is 15 million years old, box divisions 5 million years. North circle is 100km diameter. Drainage is shown at the mid Miocene, late Miocene, Pliocene, Pleistocene and the present day. Drainage change was driven by the tectonic and volcanic activity that created the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt mountain range. Geophylogney built with Geophylobuilder for ArcGIS. 3D scene in ArcScene.

Check us out at WikiPlays.org The Central Mexican Plateau also known as the Mexican Altiplano Spanish Altiplanicie Mexicana is a large aridtosemiarid plateau that occupies much of northern and central Mexico. Averaging above sea level it extends from the United States border in the north to the TransMexican Volcanic Belt in the south and is bounded by the Sierra Madre Occidental and Sierra Madre Oriental to the west and east respectively. A low eastwest mountain range in the state of Zacatecas divides the plateau into northern and southern sections. These two sections called the Northern Plateau Spanish Mesa del Norte and Central Plateau Spanish Mesa Central are now generally regarded by geographers as sections of one plateau. The Mexican Plateau is mostly covered by deserts and xeric shrublands with pineoak forests covering the surrounding mountain ranges and forming sky islands on some of the interior ranges.
