Mark-Anthony Turnage (born 10 June 1960 in Corringham, Essex) is a prolific^[1] English composer of classical music. His initial musical studies were with Oliver Knussen, John Lambert, and later with Gunther Schuller.^[2] He also has been strongly influenced by jazz, in particular by the work of Miles Davis.

Turnage has composed numerous orchestral and chamber works, and two widely performed operas. Greek, first performed in 1988 at the Munich Biennale, is based on Steven Berkoff's adaptation of Oedipus the King. The Silver Tassie, first performed in 2000, is based on the play by Seán O'Casey. Other works include Three Screaming Popes (after the paintings by Francis Bacon) and Your Rockaby, a concerto for saxophone and orchestra, and a concerto for trombone and orchestra: "Yet Another Set To", dedicated to Christian Lindberg.

In 1990, Turnage was appointed the first Radcliffe Composer in Association with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. In 2006, Turnage was named a co-composer-in-residence of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, a position he held alongside Argentinian composer Osvaldo Golijov.

In Autumn 2005, he was appointed the Royal College of Music's Research Fellow in Composition. In September 2006, he married the cellist Gabriella "Gabi" Swallow, for whom he wrote the 2010 piece for cello and percussion, GG.

Kenneth A. Radnofsky (born July 31, 1953, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania) is an American classical saxophonist. He is currently teaching at the New England Conservatory of Music, the Boston Conservatory, the Longy School of Music,^[1] and Boston University. He specializes in the alto saxophone, but plays the soprano and other sizes as well.

Radnofsky studied with Joseph Allard, Jeffrey Lerner, David Salge, Terry Anderson, and Duncan Hale. He has performed throughout the Americas, Europe, and Asia, and has appeared with many orchestras around the world. He made his New York Philharmonic debut in 1996, under the direction of Kurt Masur, and made his Carnegie Hall debut several years earlier with the New York premiere of Gunther Schuller's Concerto with the National Orchestral Association. He has performed on numerous occasions as saxophonist for the Boston Symphony,^[2][3] including several occasions as John Williams' soloist in Franz Waxman's saxophone feature 'A Place in the Sun,'^[4] and Bernard Hermann's 'Taxi Driver' suites. He also recorded 'A Place in the Sun' with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra under John Mauceri (Philips 4321092), and Debussy Saxophone Rhapsody with NY Philharmonic under Kurt Masur (Teldec 13133).^[5]

Radnofsky frequently performs new music. He founded World-Wide Concurrent Premieres & Commissioning Fund, Inc. to promote the creation of new works, serving as the organization's Executive Director.^[5] The composers he has commissioned for new works include Gunther Schuller,^[6] Alan Hovhaness, Yang Yong, David Amram, Michael Colgrass,^[7] John McDonald, Michael Gandolfi,^[8] Armand Qualliotine, Jaime Fatas, Pasquale Tassone, Shih-Hui Chen, Andy Vores, Lei Liang, Jakov Jakoulov, Donald Martino, Elliott Schwartz, Chris Theofanidis, Larry Bell, Milton Babbitt, Ezra Sims, Roger Bourland, Michael Horvit, Allen Johnson, Vincent Plush, Georgy Dmitriev, and John Harbison.^[5][9]

In 2003, he formed the Radnofsky Saxophone Quartet, which performs new works as well as works from the standard repertoire. He has recorded for the Teldec, Boston Records, New World, Mode, Albany-Troy, and Philips labels. Among his notable students are Daniel Bennett, Greg Banaszak, Chien-Kwan Lin, and Randall Hall.

Irene Taylor (1906–1988) was an American singer best known for her recorded work with Paul Whiteman. She was married to singer and bandleader Seger Ellis.

Taylor came from Muskogee, Oklahoma, but seems to have begun her musical career in Dallas. There she made her recording debut for Okeh Records in 1925, resulting in two sides where she is accompanied by local bandleader Jack Gardner. After that Taylor worked for a while with another local band, the Louisiana Ramblers, before going to New York City.

In New York in 1928 Taylor made what is probably her best known and most frequently reissued recording: Mississippi Mud (Victor 21274) with Paul Whiteman's orchestra, also featuring Bix Beiderbecke and The Rhythm Boys (including a young Bing Crosby). This was the first Whiteman recording ever to feature a female vocalist. Taylor would work briefly with Whiteman again during the early 1930s, replacing Mildred Bailey who had left the band due to disagreements regarding her salary. During this latter period, Taylor's recordings with Whiteman included Willow Weep for Me (Victor 24187). This was the second recording ever of this future jazz standard by Ann Ronell and became a hit.

Otherwise Taylor worked mostly in radio during the 1930s, including regular appearances in Bing Crosby's radio shows, and seems to have had her main base in Chicago. She also made a few records in her own name, first for Victor Records (which were never issued) and later for Vocalion Records. She also appeared on Broadway and in the Vitaphone short film Listening In where she sang I Ain't Lazy, I'm Just Dreamin'.

Probably in the 1930s, Taylor married pianist, crooner and bandleader Seger Ellis. She appeared as vocalist on several of her husband's big band recordings during the late 1930s and early 1940s. Facts about here life after that period are very scarce, and her estimated year of death is based on an interview with Ted Parrino, former pianist in the orchestra of Jack Gardner.
