Australia (
/əˈstreɪljə/), officially the Commonwealth of Australia, is a country in the Southern Hemisphere comprising the mainland of the Australian continent as well as the island of Tasmania and numerous smaller islands in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. It is the world's sixth-largest country by total area. Neighbouring countries include Indonesia, East Timor and Papua New Guinea to the north; the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and New Caledonia to the north-east; and New Zealand to the south-east.
For at least 40,000 years before European settlement in the late 18th century, Australia was inhabited by indigenous Australians, who belonged to one or more of roughly 250 language groups. After discovery by Dutch explorers in 1606, Australia's eastern half was claimed by Great Britain in 1770 and settled through penal transportation to the colony of New South Wales from 26 January 1788. The population grew steadily in subsequent decades; the continent was explored and an additional five self-governing Crown Colonies were established.

The Melbourne City Centre is the hub of the greater metropolitan area and the Census statistical division—of which "Melbourne" is the common name. As of June 2010, the greater geographical area had an approximate population of four million. Inhabitants of Melbourne are called Melburnians or Melbournians.
The metropolis is located on the large natural bay known as Port Phillip, with the city centre positioned at the estuary of the Yarra River (at the northernmost point of the bay). The metropolitan area then extends south from the city centre, along the eastern and western shorelines of Port Phillip, and expands into the hinterland. The city centre is situated in the municipality known as the City of Melbourne, and the metropolitan area consists of a further 30 municipalities.
Melbourne was founded in 1835 (47 years after the European settlement of Australia) by settlers from Launceston in Van Diemen's Land. It was named by governor Richard Bourke in 1837, in honour of the British Prime Minister of the day, William Lamb—the 2nd Viscount Melbourne. Melbourne was officially declared a city by Queen Victoria in 1847. In 1851, it became the capital city of the newly created colony of Victoria. During the Victorian gold rush of the 1850s, it was transformed into one of the world's largest and wealthiest cities. After the federation of Australia in 1901, it then served as the interim seat of government of the newly created nation of Australia until 1927.

Brian May (composer)
Brian May (28 July 1934 – 25 April 1997) was an Australian film composer. His best known scores are those for Mad Max and Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.
May was born in Adelaide on 28 July 1934. He trained at the Adelaide Elder Conservatorium as a pianist, violinist and conductor. He joined the ABC Adelaide in 1957 and was asked to form and conduct the ABC Adelaide Big Band, a full-blown ensemble that was rated as the best of the ABC state-based bands. He moved to Melbourne when he was 35 to arrange and conduct the ABC's Melbourne Show band. The Show Band made its radio debut on the First Network on 13 March 1969. Background music for Australian television had previously been taken from records. May changed this by writing and arranging the themes for television programmes, including Bellbird, Return to Eden, The Last Frontier, A Dangerous Life and Darling of the Gods.
A breakthrough for May was the drama series Rush, set on the 19th-century Victorian goldfields. The theme was composed by Australian George Dreyfus, but May's arrangement of the theme was recorded by the Show Band and quickly reached the top of the Australian charts, selling more than 100,000 copies. This type of success was usually reserved for pop groups such as Sherbert and Skyhooks. May also composed the Countdown theme and the Melbourne Show Band launched the highly successful Countdown television series. He left the ABC in 1984 and his interests turned to film music. He composed more than 30 feature film scores, including Gallipoli, Mad Max, Mad Max 2, Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare, Dr. Giggles and one episode of "Tales from the Crypt". May preferred to orchestrate his scores himself.

Donald McAlpine
Donald McAlpine, ASC is an Australian cinematographer.
Before his film career, McAlpine was a physical education teacher in Parkes, New South Wales, Australia. He began using a 16mm Camera to film athletes preparing for the Melbourne Olympics.
McAlpine's early career in Australia found him collaborating with other great Australian filmmakers from 1972 to 1981. In particular, Bruce Beresford. McAlpine filmed many of Beresford's early films including, The Adventures of Barry McKenzie, Barry McKenzie Holds His Own, Don's Party, The Getting of Wisdom, Money Movers, Breaker Morant and The Club. McAlpine also worked with another great Australian filmmaker, Gillian Armstrong, in My Brilliant Career.
After three of McAlpines films were released in New York, My Brilliant Career, Breaker Morant and The Getting of Wisdom, Director Paul Mazursky noticed McAlpines work and offered him the chance to travel to Greece to work on the film Tempest. After a successful shoot, work in the United States began to find its way to McAlpine.

Robert Helpmann
Sir Robert Helpmann CBE (9 April 1909 – 28 September 1986) was an Australian dancer, actor, theatre director and choreographer.
He was born Robert Murray Helpman (spelled with one "n") in Mount Gambier, South Australia, and was known as "Bobby" by those close to him. He was the eldest of three children of James "Sam" Murray Helpman (1881-1927), a Victorian-born stock and station agent, and his wife Mary "Maytie", née Gardiner, born in South Australia. Sam Helpman was born in Warracknabeal, Victoria, the son of Walter Stephen Helpman and Isabella Murray; Isabella's brother was Jack Murray the 23rd Premier of Victoria.
Robert was educated at Prince Alfred College, Adelaide, but left school at 14. From childhood, Helpman had a strong desire to be a dancer. This was an unusual ambition in provincial Australia of the 1920s. In a 1974 interview he recalled that he was taught the moves and dances of a girl because his dance teacher had no prior experience teaching boys.
In the Margot Fonteyn biography, he is described as being dark haired, pale, and having large dark eyes. Helpman had a younger sister Sheila Mary Helpman, and a younger brother Max, or Maxwell Gardiner Helpman, and he welcomed them both into his theatrical world, both of them becoming part of it like audience members and then becoming involved into his style of work as actors themselves.

Rod Mullinar
Rod Mullinar (born 1942) is an actor, noted for his roles on Australian television.
He took a regular leading role in Hunter late in the show's run in 1968, however he appeared in just eight episodes due to the cancellation of the series. He subsequently played the title role in television series Ryan (1973).
Other credits include: Bellbird, Homicide, Division 4, Matlock Police, Against the Wind, Prisoner, Five Mile Creek, All Saints, Stingers and Joanne Lees: Murder in the Outback as Judge Brian Ross Martin.

Susan Penhaligon
Susan Penhaligon (born 3 July 1949) is a British actress and writer, probably best known for her appearances in the controversial 1976 drama Bouquet of Barbed Wire and several ongoing roles in UK television series.
Penhaligon's father worked as an engineer for the Shell oil company and was working in the Philippines at the time of her birth there. Her parents separated and she was sent to live with her grandmother in Cornwall in 1956. After her parents divorced she went to live with her mother who had returned to Cornwall to run a bed and breakfast in St Ives. For a few years she enjoyed an idyllic existence, growing up in a bohemian community of up-and-coming abstract artists but when Penhaligon was ten her mother sent her away to boarding school. Her family upbringing was interrupted and she had little contact with her father who had remarried and moved to San Francisco. She did not meet him again until 1969 just two years before he died.[citation needed]
While training at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, Penhaligon shared a flat with soon-to-be rock star Peter Hammill. She is named in his songs "Refugees" and "Easy to Slip Away". Tagged the 'British Bardot' in the 1970s, Clive Aslet in The Daily Telegraph wrote that Penhaligon "was the face of the decade"; Penhaligon had a high profile at the time.

Patrick 1978 Tagline: Patrick has a way with people. His way... or else! Genre: Supernatural Despite it's low score, this Australian horror is a must see! I loved this film had a great story and the acting was quality. Loved the casting and the feel of the film was just right for the time. Had hints of American werewolf in London about it and this is not a bad thing. The main actress is a well scripted and thought out character and her co stars add much to the story and overall narative of the film. One of the great things about this film is how it builds suspence. Normal story telling of normal routine situations in the protagonists life and then surreal scenes of her relationship wwith the coma suffering patient Patrick are great to watch. Loved the way every time I saw Patrick I just shat myself in suspence. You will understand what I mean when you watch it. Not too much actually happens in the way of killings and violence etc. but the film slowly builds an air of suspence and I started to feel tense watching certain scenes. All these scenes hotten up to quite a climax. Overall a great story, great cast, and a fit ass nurse! Watch it! In 1978, Hernandez met producer Jean Vanloo, and with disco music at its peak, decided it was time to try his hand at disco. Vanloo agreed and signed Patrick to a contract. He was then sent to Waterloo, Belgium to work on songs. After working for about a year, the first of the resulting six songs would change Hernandez's life and make him an international star for a short period. The songs were released on the Aariana sub-label Aquarius Records (in France) in November 1978. The first single that was released was the disco song "Born to Be Alive". Its success was immediate, and in January 1979, Hernandez received his first gold record from Italy. The song spread throughout Europe, where it hit #1 in France in April and remained there until July. By then, the United States had caught on, and through some remixing, the record was signed to the A-Tom-Mik label headed by the award winning dance promoter Tom Hayden and music publisher Mike Stewart through their label/production deal with Columbia Records. The remixed version of "Born to Be Alive" was released on a commercial 12" single, and it shot up the disco charts to #1 and crossed over to the Billboard Hot 100 peaking at #16. By year's end, Hernandez had racked up 52 gold and platinum record awards from more than 50 different countries. While Hernandez was touring the United States, he was accompanied by his producer Jean Vanloo and his friend Jean-Claude Pellerin. Vanloo and Pellerin held auditions in New York that spring ...

Patrick is a 1978 Australian horror film directed by Richard Franklin and written by Everett De Roche. It is the pivotal movie of respected Australian director Richard Franklin's career.[1]

Plot summary[link]
Patrick (Robert Thompson) lies in a coma in a Melbourne private hospital. He had murdered his mother and her lover three years ago by electrocuting them in the bath. Patrick, who has psychokinetic powers, falls in love with Kathy (Susan Penhaligon), the new nurse at the hospital, communicating with her via an electric typewriter. Patrick also uses his psychokinetic powers to control the men in Kathy's life and to defend himself against the hospital's bitter Matron Cassidy (Julia Blake) who plots to murder him.[2]

The film was nominated in three categories, including Best Film, at the 1978 AFI Awards. Franklin also won the Best Director prize at the prestigious Sitges Fantasy Film Festival in Spain.[3]
The Encyclopedia of Fantasy notes the similarity between the movie's plot and that of the novel Tetrasomy Two by "Oscar Rossiter" (non de plume of Dr. Vernon H.Skeels (1918-2007) )[4].
In Italy, the film was rescored by Goblin.
Remake[link]
In February 2010, it was announced that Mark Hartley would direct a remake of the movie,[5] with Antony I Ginnane as producer.[6] It will be Hartley's genre feature film debut.[7]
Sequel[link]
A sequel made in Italy with Italian actors was titled Patrick Still Lives and released in 1980.
