Trans Woman Brutally Attacked At Mc Donald's
Trans Woman Brutally Attacked At Mc Donald's
This video really disgusted me this morning. Baltimore police have made two arrests in the brutal attack on a transgender woman at a McDonald's, where staffers filmed the assault with their cell phones, then urged the assailants to flee before police arrived. The only person that appears to come to the victim's aid is an elderly female customer, although the restaurant's manager did attempt to pull the attackers away at one point. McDonald's has released the below statement. "We are shocked by the video from a Baltimore franchised restaurant showing an assault. This incident is unacceptable, disturbing and troubling. McDonald's strives to be a safe, welcoming environment for everyone who visits. Nothing is more important to us than the safety of customers and employees in our restaurants. We are working with the franchisee and the local authorities to investigate this matter." "A member of our community was recently the victim of senseless violence. Equality Maryland is saddened that in this day and age, bigotry and discrimination against transgender individuals continue, especially in our own backyard. No person ever deserves to be a victim of violence regardless of their gender identity or presentation. We encourage the State's Attorney General to investigate this as a gate crime based on gender identity. We are encouraged that McDonald's is working with local police to investigate this incident, and hope that the company will follow-up with appropriate disciplinary ...

reclaiming "tranny": a transwoman speaking to transmen
reclaiming "tranny": a transwoman speaking to transmen
Read my blog at www.transcreature.tumblr.com Performer talked about: Athens Boys Choir www.athensboyschoir.com "Tranny Got Pack" www.youtube.com I made a video about how I feel about transguys who reclaim the word "Tranny". Historically, the word Tranny has been used to primarily refer to transwomen that often times perpetuate very negative stereotypes about us. I give a few examples in the video, but I think a simple youtube or google search will show you some very offensive caricatures of transwomen, objectifying images, and derogatory statements. There's very few that depict transmen in the same way, and in fact I haven't been able to find any (although I generally don't look very hard to find demeaning things on the internet). In popular culture, 'trannies' refer to transwomen and people who impersonate us. When 'tranny' is used in a violent way, it is being directed at transwomen. When transguys use the word tranny, they are not "reclaiming" it but appropriating it, and also apprioprating the violence enacted against us. This erases how specifically transwomen are targeted as objects of ridicule and for violence. This is not to say that transmen do not also face a huge amount of discrimination and violence, but that in comparison to transguys, under the label of '"trannies", transwomen are made fun of much more often in popular culture: transwomen face higher risks of physical harm, transwomen are murdered more often, transwomen are sexually objectified more, and ...

Think for a Change (12): Re: Trans Woman Attacked at McDonald's
Think for a Change (12): Re: Trans Woman Attacked at McDonald's
Transphobic violence is probably one of the most under-discussed forms of hate crime, yet that which is perpetrated through some of the most cruel and horrific acts of violence. The recent story of Chrissy Lee Polis' violent attack at a McDonald's in Baltimore has stirred up some strong responses from people, not only regarding the attackers' actions but also the appalling lack of response from employees. I want to use this opportunity to throw out some resources for people to look into so that we all don't just think, "I don't know any trans people," and wait around until we do before we start thinking differently about gender and how gender norms make us treat other people. And just in case people start getting caught up in asking whether or not Chrissy Lee Polis' attack was transphobic or racially motivated, I'd like to make it clear that the point of this video is to highlight transphobia as a real issue that affects many people, regardless of the circumstances surrounding this one particular incident. I provide the names of other people (and those are only a few, but at least they received some news coverage) so that you can look up their stories in the hope that we don't allow ourselves to simply dismiss the very real issues at hand. So the video speaks for itself partially. And yes the title is a bit self-deprecatingly tongue-in-cheek. Some of you may be wondering, why I did not initially give you my new/real/chosen name, and I suppose I could have done it but for some reason didn't.

RE: Trans woman being beaten in a McDonalds in Baltimore
I watched the video and instantly hit record after catching my breath from crying so hard. I'm generally a person who doesn't care very much about too many things. This incident absolutely disgusted me more than anything I've seen in my entire life. I may be very annoying, contradicting, emotional, opinionated here. But at least I can admit it. But aside from all of my personal feelings, this IS wrong. Transgender people do NOT choose to be the way they are, it isn't a game, it's real. Fact; some people are just ignorant and disgusting. ie, disgusting girls who beat up on other girls for using a bathroom.
