Pipe Band Parade - Pitlochry Highland Games
For many the Pitlochry Highland Games starts with the parade of pipe bands down Atholl Road to the Recreation Ground - even although the local events are already well under way. The parade is led by Robert Wiseman Vale of Atholl pipe band. Here you can see the Grade 1 band with the Grade 3 and Novice Juvenile bands all playing together and led by three Drum Majors in full traditional regalia. Vale of Atholl pipe band is one of the local bands here, and it performs regularly during the summer in Pitlochry on Monday evenings. It is followed by Perth and District Pipe Band. All bands in the parade are judged on marching and smartness of turnout - with valuable prizes for the winners. This year's top prize was awarded to Beauly Firth & Glens. Second and third prizes went to Lomond and Clyde and Central Scotland Police respectively. This video manages to include all the bands talking part in the 2009 parade. Pitlochry UFO Case
While most reports of flying saucers are quickly dismissed by defence chiefs, the previously classified papers show the sighting, which took place near Pitlochry in 1990, was taken extremely seriously. A former MoD official who investigated the case told Scotland on Sunday that despite strenuous efforts they could find no earthly explanation for the craft. Witnesses reported seeing a large, diamond-shaped object hanging in the air next to a RAF Harrier above the A9 at Calvine, north of Pitlochry, on August 4. The UFO is said to have hovered for about 10 minutes before zooming skywards at high speed and disappearing from view. The apparent close encounter of the Caledonian kind was photographed by members of the public whose images appear to show a blurry, diamond-shaped craft next to a jet. Fearing the pictures would spark significant media interest, the MoD decided to bring it to the attention of the Government. A Whitehall official wrote in a memo: "Such stories are not normally drawn to the attention of ministers. "On this occasion, however, the MoD has been provided with six photographic negatives of an alleged UFO... and has been asked for comments almost certainly for inclusion in a forthcoming story." The memo suggested the media should be told that "no definite conclusion had been reached regarding the large diamond-shaped object". It has also emerged the MoD went on to commission a series of line drawings of the object the following year, noting that the ...

The Pitlochry Dam and Fish Ladder are located in the picturesque Highland town of Pitlochry, Perthshire, Scotland. The Dam brings, through the use of hydro-electric power, electricity to the Highlands and also has a visitors centre inside detailing the history. It is also home to the famous Pitlochry Salmon Ladder, which enables salmon to make their way upstream along the River Tummel, beyond the dam itself. It is an amazing site to see Salmon jumping! A Winter day in Pitlochry, Perthshire, Scotland, UK
On our only full day in Scotland, we took a drive to Pitlochry, located in the Scottish Highlands. The first place we stopped at was the Festival Theatre, where shows are held and you can also have a bite to eat. On this particular day, the weather was a bit nippy and to spend a lot of time outdoors was the last thing we wanted to do. From the Festival Theatre, you can see the snow-covered Mountains which surround Pitlochry as well as admiring the River Tay, which flows through. After we had had a cup of Coffee in the Festival Theatre, we went on a little bit further to the Pitlochry Dam and Fish Ladder. There, we admired the breathtaking views but didn't see any salmon jumping! 0:04 Snow-capped Mountains surrounding Pitlochry. 0:11 Loch Tay. 0:32 Fishermans Bar next to the River Tay. 0:53 Pitlochry Fish Ladder. 1:33 Mountains surrounding Pitlochry looking West. 2:00 Looking down Loch Tay from Pitlochry Dam. 2:47 Crest on the outside of the turbine hall saying Neart Gleann. 3:05 Frozen water looking westward from the Dam.
