Today we traverse Holt Blvd, otherwise known as Historic US 70 and 99, and former BL 10. This road dates to the earliest incarnation of US 99's identity separate from US 66. Later, when US 70 was extended into California, it was co-routed with US 99 through these parts to give the route an East/West running number, as US 99 was technically North/South.
US 99, considered the Main Street of California, originally ran to both international borders with Canada and Mexico. It entered California at Hornbrook, traveling roughly along the route of modern I-5. In Red Bluff, the route split into two for a short time: US 99E and 99W. East followed modern SR 99 and 99W followed modern I-5. They rejoined just north of Sacramento. It then followed modern SR 99 to Bakersfield, where I-5 now picks up the old route. It ran to the East LA Interchange, turning directly east with US 60 and 70. It then made a b-line through the Inland Empire to Indio where it diverted south for it's final alignment to Calexico along modern SR 86 and SR 111.
US 70 has a much less interesting history. Extended into California in the 1930's, it had no identity of it's own. It was co-routed with US 60 through Arizona into California. It picked up US 99 in Indio, and continued to Banning where US 60 split from the multiplex. It continued through the Inland Empire, where it picked up US 60 once again before leaving the IE. It followed modern I-10 to the East LA Interchange, where US 70 officially ended.

U.S. Route 70
U.S. Route 70 (US 70) is an east–west United States highway that runs for 2,385 miles (3,838 km) from eastern North Carolina to east-central Arizona. As can be derived from its number, it is a major east–west highway of the Southern and Southwestern United States. It formerly ran from coast to coast, with the current Eastern terminus near the Atlantic Ocean in North Carolina, and the former Western terminus near the Pacific Ocean in California. Before the completion of the Interstate system, U.S. Highway 70 was sometimes referred to as the "Broadway of America", due to its status as one of the main east–west thoroughfares in the nation.
Route description
Arizona
U.S. 70 begins in Globe at a junction with U.S. Route 60, concurrent with State Route 77. SR 77 splits off east of town. U.S. 70 then enters the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation and runs southeast for 17Â miles (27Â km) to Peridot, where it crosses Indian Route 9. It has no other highway junctions until Safford, where it begins a ten-mile (16Â km) overlap with U.S. 191. U.S. 70 then runs an additional 37Â mi (60Â km). (59Â km) before crossing into New Mexico east of Franklin.

U.S. Route 99
U.S. Route 99 (US 99) was the main north–south United States Numbered Highway on the West Coast of the United States until 1964, running from Calexico, California, on the US–Mexico border to Blaine, Washington, on the U.S.-Canada border. It was assigned in 1926 and existed until it was replaced for the most part by Interstate 5. Known also as the "Golden State Highway" and "The Main Street of California", US 99 was important throughout much of the 1930s as a route for Dust Bowl immigrant farm workers to traverse the state. Large portions are now California's State Route 99 (SR 99), Oregon Route 99, 99W, 99E and Washington's SR 99. The highway connected to British Columbia Highway 99 at the Canadian border.

The former route of U.S. Route 99 in Oregon mostly follows routes currently signed as Oregon Route 99, 99E, and 99W. The primary exception is from the California–Oregon state border north to Ashland, Oregon, where U.S. 99 is currently named Old Highway 99 S from the state border to exit 6 of Interstate 5. The former route is coterminous with Interstate 5 from exit 6 to the junction of Oregon Route 99 in Ashland.

U.S. Route 60
U.S. Route 60 (US 60) is an east–west United States highway, traveling 2,670 mi (4,300 km) from southwestern Arizona to the Atlantic coast in Virginia. Despite the final "0" in its number, indicating a transcontinental designation, the 1926 route formerly ended in Springfield, Missouri, at its intersection with the major US 66. In fact, US 66 was almost given the US 60 number.
As of 2005, the highway's eastern terminus is in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at Atlantic Avenue in the city's oceanfront resort district at the Rudee Inlet Bridge, right at the Grommet Island Park. Its original western terminus was in Los Angeles, California, but that was moved to southwest of Brenda, Arizona to an interchange with Interstate 10 (I-10) after the highway designation was removed from California in 1964. Some US 60 signs can be seen at this interchange about 5 mi (8.0 km) southwest of Brenda. I-10 replaced US 60 from Beaumont, California to Arizona, and California State Route 60 (SR 60) replaced US 60 from Los Angeles to Beaumont.

Today we traverse Holt Blvd, otherwise known as Historic US 70 and 99, and former BL 10. This road dates to the earliest incarnation of US 99's identity separate from US 66. Later, when US 70 was extended into California, it was co-routed with US 99 through these parts to give the route an East/West running number, as US 99 was technically North/South. US 99, considered the Main Street of California, originally ran to both international borders with Canada and Mexico. It entered California at Hornbrook, traveling roughly along the route of modern I-5. In Red Bluff, the route split into two for a short time: US 99E and 99W. It picked up US 99 in Indio, and continued to Banning where US 60 split from the multiplex. It continued through the Inland Empire, where it picked up US 60 once again before leaving the IE. It followed modern I-10 to the East LA Interchange, where US 70 officially ended.

US 70 has a much less interesting history. Extended into California in the 1930's, it had no identity of it's own. It was co-routed with US 60 through Arizona into California. It picked up US 99 in Indio, and continued to Banning where US 60 split from the multiplex. It continued through the Inland Empire, where it picked up US 60 once again before leaving the IE. It followed modern I-10 to the East LA Interchange, where US 70 officially ended.

US 70, US 99 - Holt Blvd East - Pomona and Ontario
Today we traverse Holt Blvd, otherwise known as Historic US 70 and 99, and former BL 10. This road dates to the earliest incarnation of US 99's identity separate from US 66. Later, when US 70 was extended into California, it was co-routed with US 99 through these parts to give the route an East/West running number, as US 99 was technically North/South. US 99, considered the Main Street of California, originally ran to both international borders with Canada and Mexico. It entered California at Hornbrook, traveling roughly along the route of modern I-5. In Red Bluff, the route split into two for a short time: US 99E and 99W. East followed modern SR 99 and 99W followed modern I-5. They rejoined just north of Sacramento. It then followed modern SR 99 to Bakersfield, where I-5 now picks up the...

Today we traverse Holt Blvd, otherwise known as Historic US 70 and 99, and former BL 10. This road dates to the earliest incarnation of US 99's identity separate from US 66. Later, when US 70 was extended into California, it was co-routed with US 99 through these parts to give the route an East/West running number, as US 99 was technically North/South.
US 99, considered the Main Street of California, originally ran to both international borders with Canada and Mexico. It entered California at Hornbrook, traveling roughly along the route of modern I-5. In Red Bluff, the route split into two for a short time: US 99E and 99W. East followed modern SR 99 and 99W followed modern I-5. They rejoined just north of Sacramento. It then followed modern SR 99 to Bakersfield, where I-5 now picks up the old route. It ran to the East LA Interchange, turning directly east with US 60 and 70. It then made a b-line through the Inland Empire to Indio where it diverted south for it's final alignment to Calexico along modern SR 86 and SR 111.
US 70 has a much less interesting history. Extended into California in the 1930's, it had no identity of it's own. It was co-routed with US 60 through Arizona into California. It picked up US 99 in Indio, and continued to Banning where US 60 split from the multiplex. It continued through the Inland Empire, where it picked up US 60 once again before leaving the IE. It followed modern I-10 to the East LA Interchange, where US 70 officially ended.
