Ta Moko - George Nuku
www.gogglebox-tv.com Front of the Box Production winners of the Qantas Media Awards for Best Television Dococumentary 'Gang Girls' Taken from the documentary 'Ta Moko' directed by Kim Webby. "Ta Moko" takes viewers on a personal journey through the moko process. Ta Moko also follows the revival of the ancient process of moko using uhi, bone chisels, as it was done in the days of old. Auckland moko artist, Turumakina Duleyz, is bringing back this ancient process by using uhi on the face of artist George Nuku. As the documentary shows, it is a process of trial and error with potentially dire consequences. At the heart of "Ta Moko" is an appraisal of the ta moko renaissance, ten years after it began and the current mainstreaming of a once mysterious practice.Ta Moko is an exploration of the current place of moko in Aotearoa and attitudes toward the revival of this ancient practice. Part 2 of 2 The traditional process of Maori tattooing Ta Moko Waka Huia TVNZ 24 July 2011.mpg
Here we show the tattooing of the legs of Chris Winitana, Tūhoe, Tūwharetoa, in the way of the warrior ancestors of yore. Each line holds a chant, each cut a song, each form represents a tear, the manifestation of aroha. Tune in your ears to his explanations of how the warrior's tattoo connects to the spiritual pathway signposted by the female deities of old. From the spiritworld of Rarohenga to The Beam of the Moon, to that of Matariki and onwards to the Threshold of Rehua. - Part 2 of 2 The traditional process of Maori tattooing Ta Moko Waka Huia TVNZ 24 July 2011

1 Giant Leap -- Ta Moko
www.1giantleap.tv 1 Giant Leap is a concept band and media project consisting of the two principal artists, Jamie Catto and Duncan Bridgeman. Based in the UK, the two musicians set out to create a multimedia project that would encompass a CD, DVD and cinematic presentation that would offer a complete artistic statement. The project offers music, digital video footage shot over the course of six months by Catto and Bridgeman, images, rhythms and spoken word content. The first project features contributions from Dennis Hopper, Kurt Vonnegut, Michael Stipe, Robbie Williams, Tim Robbins, Brian Eno, Baaba Maal, Speech, Asha Bhosle, Neneh Cherry, Anita Roddick, Michael Franti and other artists and authors. The band's theme for the project is "Unity Through Diversity". 1 Giant Leap's "My Culture" video, featuring Robbie Williams and Maxi Jazz from Faithless has received extensive airplay. After nearly four years the new 1 Giant Leap project, currently titled 'What About Me' has been handed over by Duncan Bridgeman and Jamie Catto. Twelve films and twleve tracks about "...all the different ways we're mad...desperate, obsessed, neurotic, fixated...the insane ways we make ourselves unhappy..." When Jamie Catto and Duncan Bridgeman joined forces to create the project 1 Giant Leap, they embarked upon a global journey that included Senegal, Ghana, South Africa, Uganda, India, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, America and Europe
