Baritone Horn Solo: Chiapenacas by Euphonium Solist David Werden
Euphoniumist David Werden performs this solo on Baritone Horn. The solo was arranged by the great trumpet virtuoso Rafael Mendez and performed at Tubonium in the Twin Cities, MN. This arrangement is available from: www.sheetmusicplus.com I did not upload this video to demonstrate my "mastery" of the baritone horn. There are many wonderful baritone players, especially in Great Britain, who specialize in this smaller-bore instrument. But in the USA many musicians are not familiar with the true British-bore baritone. This confusion is worsened by the fact that the euphonium is often called a baritone. One goal of this performance was to help the audience understand how unique a real baritone is compared to a euphonium (I played both horns on this recital). The other goal was to help more low brass players become familiar with the music of Mendez, a valuable legacy indeed. Agraduate of The University of Iowa, Mr. Werden was the euphonium soloist with The United States Coast Guard Band for more than 20 years. He has performed throughout the United States, as well as in Canada, England, Japan, and the former Soviet Union. Through FM and TV broadcasts, his solos have been heard in dozens of countries around the world. He is a recitalist and clinician, and has performed at local, national, and international symposiums. He was a member of The USCG Band Euphonium/Tuba Quartet, the Atlantic Tuba Quartet, and the Classic Brass Band. He previously taught at the University of ...

Largo al Factotum Cage Match: 14 Baritones Sing the High A
One of the hardest moments of Figaro's entrance aria from the Barber of Seville, what many consider to be the hardest baritone aria...perfect material for a cage match. Here we have 14 baritones attempting the infamous high A. This optional cadenza is left out by many baritones, including many great Figaros (Thomas Allen, for instance. Others hit the cadenza but omit the highest note (ie Robert Merrill). But here is a compilation of baritones with the guts and the balls to sing it all! In chronological order: 1. Riccardo Stracciari (1875-1955) 2. Lawrence Tibbett (1896-1956) 3. Leonard Warren (1911-1960) 4. Gino Bechi (1913-1993) 5. Tito Gobbi (1913-1984) 6. Rolando Panerai (b. 1924) 7. Nicolae Herlea (b. 1927) 8. Hermann Prey (1929-1998) 9. Sherrill Milnes (b. 1935) 10. Leo Nucci (b. 1942) 11. Thomas Hampson (b. 1955) 12. Dmitri Hvorostovsky (b. 1962) 13. Russell Braun (b. 1965) 14. Aaron St. Clair Nicholson And last but not least: 15. Mario del Monaco (1915-1982) --this one is just for fun. No votes for him will count. (more) (less)

Thomas Quasthoff, bass-baritone ("Song to the evening star," Wagner's Tannhauser)
A very nice recording by a very nice voice- sad story. Enjoy. Recorded from radio. Thomas Quasthoff (born November 9, 1959) is a German bass-baritone generally regarded as one of the finest singers of his generation. Although his reputation was initially based on his performance of Romantic lieder, Quasthoff has proven to have a remarkable range from the Baroque cantatas of Bach to solo jazz improvisations. Quasthoff was born in Hildesheim, Germany, with serious birth defects caused by his mother's exposure during pregnancy to the drug thalidomide which was prescribed as an antiemetic to combat her morning sickness. Thomas Quasthoff is unusually short (about four feet tall) due to shortening of the long bones in his legs, and he has phocomelia of the upper extremities with very short or absent long bones and flipper-like appearance of his hands.

Watercolor Paintings - Telephone Wires
Awesome brother-sister duo from Santa Barbara, CA. We stayed with Rebecca recently and were treated to some amazing vegan pizza's and soup. We had a nice fire roaring when we recorded and a fun group surrounding them. I think this is the first baritone ukelele and harp on IYMI. 2009 is nuts!

Taylor Guitars Baritone
Want to subscribe to check out other rockin' Taylor Guitars videos? Check out the Taylor Guitars channel page www.youtube.com and subscribe at www.youtube.com Taylor baritone guitars are designed for playing in a lower register with normal string tension, thanks to a longer 27-inch scale length. Tuned to B (BEADF# B), the deeper acoustic tone is voiced with the GS body shape and a wood combination of Indian rosewood with Sitka spruce. A great choice for singers with a lower vocal range or players who favor a detuned sound, the baritone is offered as either a 6-string or an 8-string with two added octave strings that expand the tonal range.

Baritone Andrey Grigoriev performing "Song of the Venetian Guest" "Opera "Sadko"
Russian Baritone Andrey Grigoriev performs"The Venetian guest aria from the opera Sadko by Rimsky Korsakov. Spring 2009, Tchaikovsky hall in Moscow. Song of the Venetian Guest", from the 4th act of Rimsky-Korsakoff's 1897 opera Sadko. The people of Novgorod gather at a pier on Lake Ilmen, thronging around the overseas traders (Varangian, Indian, and Venetian, among others) and inspecting their merchandise. After a stately introduction, the Venetian's aria gives way to a colorful, rollicking depiction of the splendors of his native city.

Simon Callow on "Being Shakespeare"
Celebrated British star of stage and screen Simon Callow returns to Chicago with a tour de force solo performance that took the Edinburgh Festival Fringe by storm and played to great acclaim throughout its UK tour and West End engagement. Callow weaves together excerpts from Shakespeare's plays and poems, breathing new life into his unforgettable characters and the real man behind the legend. Presented as part of CST's World's Stage, this unique portrait of the Bard follows Callow's major international success The Mystery of Charles Dickens (Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Broadway and London's West End) in addition to memorable film roles including Shakespeare in Love, Four Weddings and a Funeral, and A Room with a View. London's Guardian raved, "we've had some fine one-man shows about Shakespeare from John Gielgud, Ian McKellen and Michael Pennington. But Simon Callow's is among the very best... a memorably multidimensional picture of Shakespeare, steeped in scholarship and love."
