The Prairie School's Gabbi Ortiz Feature
The story of how Gabbi Ortiz got to where she is now is pretty incredible. Not only does she have a full scholarship offer, she has half a dozen of them, and that's all before she could even get her drivers' license. But there's even more to the story that makes where she is today even more incredible.

The Origins of the Prairie School
What was the first Prairie School building and who was it's architect? Frank Lloyd Wright is perhaps best known for the style, but many others practiced it well. Two studios that produced many of the best known Prairie architects were at Steinway Hall in Chicago, and at Wright's Oak Park home.

Mani Nasry an exceptionally talented filmmaker, actor and artist with a sophisticated breadth of education, skills, experience, and professional accomplishments. He trained as an actor and director in New York with Salem Ludwig and with Donna DeMatteo for playwriting. For Mani, the decision to work in the film industry guided his academic decisions from an early age. He attended a Toronto high school renowned for excellence in the arts, and was accepted into one of the highly competitive film program at Ryerson university. It is notable that he went to Ryerson with an already well-established career in theatre, film, television and commercial work, and a range of multi-faceted achievements including producing, cinematography, casting, writing, directing, acting, and editing. On his own he added stints in New York and Los Angeles with leading acting teachers, as well as learning the grace and style of many forms of dance and athletics. With courses perceptively, he has also recognized the importance of acquiring an understanding of the business side of the industry, and the varied aspects of technology and production. There are some people clearly born to follow the path they have chosen from the start. Mani Nasry has the passion to succeed, the curiosity and ingenuity required to lead and collaborate in an industry known for its impact and appeal, and the strength of character and work ethic to immerse himself in finding and telling an unforgettable story.

The "No-No" Word for 2010-Introducing the P413x Plan of "Can-Do" Christianity
JOURNEY 2010: LIVING IN THE WILL OF GOD
This year I am calling Journey 2010. This is the year we journey closer to God as a church, as families, and as His children.
In order to do this we must embrace God’s Truth, and allow His truth to change our want to’s into His want to’s. Our Journey 2010 is all about what John wrote in 2 John 1:4 – “living the life of truth, as the Father himself instructed us”. Walking in the truth, Living out the truth, following the way of truth, abiding in the truth.
In the movie City Slickers, Billy Crystal plays a radio advertising salesman going through a mid-life crisis. He and his friends deal with the humdrumness of life by participating in a cattle drive from New Mexico to Colorado—an experience that turns out to be a kind of epiphany for all of them. At the end of the movie as they prepare to return to New York and the familiar routine, Billy Crystal explains to one of those friends the concept of a “do-over.”
Crystal is addressing his pal who, nearing 40, feels he is at a dead-end. "I've wasted my life." Brunno Kirby's character laments:
I'm at a dead end. I'm almost
40 years old. I've wasted my life.
Yeah, but now you got
a chance to start over. You know?
Phil, remember when we were kids? And we'd be playing ball and the ball would get stuck up in a tree?
And we'd yell "Do over!" Huh?
Yeah. You got a clean slate..
Crystal tells him that he can start over again. His life can be a do-over.
Phil Berquist: You know you were right, Mitch. My life is a "do-over". It's time to get started.
Mitch Robbins: I hope I can help.
Ed Furillo: Now I'm gonna go home, and I'm gonna get Kim pregnant.
Mitch Robbins: I hope I can help.
Something like that happens every January 1. We all get a “do-over"—another chance to do it right. If 2009 was a tough year for you, cheer up. It’s a brand-new year!
There is a biblical perspective we need to remember at the beginning of a new year. It’s a perspective that’s wrapped up in one simple word. If you remember not to use this particular word this year, your chances of succeeding are going to go through the roof. In fact, I think you’ll be happier if you make a decision here and now to cut this word right out of your vocabulary.
Cutting this one word from your life will force you to open your eyes to God, to His greatness. That is what Journey 2010 is all about-discovering the greatness of our Creator God.
Perhaps you saw the recent news report of the Mom who had a heart attack while delivering her baby. The baby was delivered by emergency C Section (without anesthesia) and her newborn baby was delivered without a heartbeat as well.
Dr Martin said she did not have a "great explanation" for why Mrs Hermanstorfer's heartbeat returned.
"Somewhere between four and five minutes she had been without heart rate and had stopped breathing a minute or two prior to her heart stopping," she said.
The doctors were then able to resuscitate the baby.
Despite tests, she said doctors were still not sure about what had happened.
However Mrs Hermanstorfer and her husband Mike have said they believed it was down to a miracle.
She said: "I got a second chance in life."
Dr Martin said she would take help from wherever it came.
This world ignores God. Clearly God was at work here. Perhaps he has great plans for this baby. The world just looks the other way rather than give glory to God.
This year I want to Give Glory to God! I want this to be a Hallelujah Year. So by official Pastoral Proclamation I am banning one word from use at Pleasant Prairie. That word is “CAN’T”. If you catch anyone saying this word at church, it will be a $5 fine. If I use it in a sermon after today, fine me $5.
That’s right. The one word you shouldn’t say in 2010 is the little word can’t.
We use it all the time, don’t we?
We say, “I can’t lose weight.”
“I just can’t seem to save money.”
“I try and try but I can’t find the time to read the Bible.”
“After what she did, I can’t forgive her.”
“No matter how hard I try, I can’t change, I can’t quit smoking, quit ….”
If 2010 is to be a year of Journeying with our Mighty God, it will be a CAN DO year.
In order to understand and embrace this wonderful CAN DO God, we need to understand a few “CAN’T”S from God’s Word. These Can not’s help understand how we can live in God’s will.
So here are the foundational Truth’s for our Journey into the Will of God and seeing Him as our CAN DO GOD!
Amazingly Gained by the way God used cannot in the New Testament
God Limited:
Accept Yourself: Mt 5:36 And do not take an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black.
God is It!: Mt 6:24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. 1 Cor 10:21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the

Uncertain (teen suicide awareness short film)
"uncertain" relates the drowsy-dream of a teenage boy who has taken an overdose of pills to end his life. Driven on an open-field road, Anson slowly wakes up to realize he does not know where he is or where is being taken. Only when he meets a man in the middle of a prairie does he recall his suicide attempt caused by the social aggression he’s suffered at school.
“uncertain” is a video response to the deaths of Carl Joseph Walker-Hoover, Eric Mohat and Jaheem Herrera in April 2009. All three teenagers and numerous more across the country are choosing to end their lives unable to enduring the physical attacks and gay slurs they face on a daily basis at their respective schools and communities.
This short video project does not intend to answer any specific questions, instead it is inviting viewers to participate in a constructive conversation by asking questions regarding teen suicide, school bullying and GLBTQ issues. This online forum also encourages parents, educators and young people to share their experiences, whether it’s the loss of a loved one or the bodily and verbal abuse they are suffering.
3 nationally renowned non-profit organizations focusing specifically on suicide prevention, youth outreach, and education to ensure safe schools are lending their support and resources to help us better understand and positively affect the lives of those individuals who need our support.
In collaboration with The Trevor Project, Teen Line, and Hope Line.
“uncertain” is a student-made project at the University of Texas at Dallas. Written, edited and directed by Luis Fernando Midence.
Winner Best Movie at 2010 UTD Cosmic Film Festival. Official selection 2010 Dallas International Film Festival and Awareness Fest: Heal One World in California.

The Importance of Our Church Covenant
A mere two months after the Los Angeles Dodgers inked a new, two–year, $45 million guaranteed deal with power hitter Manny Ramirez, the slugger got hit with a 50–game suspension for using a banned performance–enhancing substance. The reason, a “Behavior” clause written into his contract. The 50 game suspension will save the Dodgers 8 million dollars.
Earlier this year Kellogg’s backed out of an endorsement deal with Michael Phelps because of a “Behavior Clause” they had written into the contract. You know them as “Morality Clauses”, but because of changing morals, they have become specific “behavior” clauses.
There was once a time when an advertiser could get an agent to agree to the following clause: “If [Celebrity] has committed any act that offends the community or any segment thereof and/or public morals and decency, such behavior shall be considered a material breach of this Agreement incapable of cure, and if in [Advertiser’s] sole judgment such breach is likely to cause a diminution in the value of the [Advertiser’s] commercial association with [Celebrity], then [Advertiser] shall have the right, in addition to any other rights [Advertiser] may have as a result of such breach, to immediately terminate this Agreement on written notice to [Celebrity]. In such event, there shall be no further compensation payable to [Celebrity] and such termination shall not limit or effect any other rights [Advertiser] may have against [Celebrity] under this Agreement on account of such termination.”
However, society’s views of morality have changed, so contracts have gotten to be very specific as regards the “behavior” of the celebrities. With Michael Phelps, public drug use was clearly prohibited.
These behavior clauses have even entered the world o Big Banks. The latest banking crisis underscored the importance of not appearing greedy in the face of massive government bailouts at taxpayer expense. The government refused to give “Bailout Funds” unless certain behavior standards were met. Corporate executives lost their jobs and had their pay cut because of lavish extravaganza’s and exorbitant bonuses while Americans saw Billions of dollars in savings wiped out.
In the sports world, in the corporate world, in the banking world, how we behave and act is very important, so important that people lose millions when they fail to live up to certain standards.
Even in the church, our behavior is important. George Barna has become well-known because of the extensive research and surveys he conducts. He has noticed some alarming trends in the church, particularly in regards to our “Biblical World view”. A Survey published in March of this year produced these results:
For the purposes of the survey, a “biblical worldview” was defined as believing that absolute moral truth exists; the Bible is totally accurate in all of the principles it teaches; Satan is considered to be a real being or force, not merely symbolic; a person cannot earn their way into Heaven by trying to be good or do good works; Jesus Christ lived a sinless life on earth; and God is the all-knowing, all-powerful creator of the world who still rules the universe today. In the research, anyone who held all of those beliefs was said to have a biblical worldview.
The same questions were asked of respondents in national surveys by Barna in 1995, 2000 and 2005. The results indicate that the percentage of adults with a biblical worldview, as defined above, has remained unchanged for more than a decade. The numbers show that 7% had such a worldview in 1995, compared to 10% in 2000, 11% in 2005, and 9% now. Even among born again adults, the statistics have remained flat: 18% in 1995, 22% in 2000, 21% in 2005, and 19% today.
Varying numbers of Americans embrace the different aspects of biblical worldview thinking. The survey found that:
* One-third of all adults (34%) believe that moral truth is absolute and unaffected by the circumstances. Slightly less than half of the born again adults (46%) believe in absolute moral truth.
* Half of all adults firmly believe that the Bible is accurate in all the principles it teaches. That proportion includes the four-fifths of born again adults (79%) who concur.
* Just one-quarter of adults (27%) are convinced that Satan is a real force. Even a minority of born again adults (40%) adopt that perspective.
* Similarly, only one-quarter of adults (28%) believe that it is impossible for someone to earn their way into Heaven through good behavior. Not quite half of all born again Christians (47%) strongly reject the notion of earning salvation through their deeds.
* A minority of American adults (40%) are persuaded that Jesus Christ lived a sinless life while He was on earth. Slightly less than two-thirds of the born again segment (62%) strongly believes that He was sinless.
* Seven out of ten adults (70%) say that God is the all-powerful, all-knowing creator of

Prairie Dog Blasting (Sniper School) WARNING-GRAPHIC
This is a video I did for my dad and his good friend Marty. Last summer (May 2010) they went to the middle of nowhere South Dakota and got set up with a guide service to go shoot prairie dogs. The prairie dog is a huge nuisance because they dig holes everywhere that cattle break their legs in. So the state of SD is happy to allow Non-Resident hunters the opportunity to hone their shooting skills on South Dakotas most abundant rodent. This video is not at all the whole trip. It's more of a "high-lites and best shots" video. Most shots were taken with bolt action varmint rifles such as Remington Model 700's chambered in the ever popular .223, .22-250 (really old but really fast), and the new blazing fast (4200 FPS) Ruger/Hornady .204. All dogs were shot by either Dennis or Marty. Targeted distances ranged from 50 yards to over 400 yards away!
