📍 1 - Learning new language - Norwegian is a rare language.
If you think about it, the population of Norway is 5 million 747 thousand people. And those people speak 3 official language of Norway:
Nynorsk
Bolmål
And Sami
So if you are not willing to study Norwegian and start learning it well in advance - you better don’t move to Norway.
📍 2 - Adjusting to the new climate
I’m getting this question a lot - how can you handle winter in Norway?
My usual answer is - I can handle it with no issues and with a great pleasure!
📍 3 - You are weather dependant
Like you can’t work or you can’t create when the sun doesn’t shine.
That’s different. And you’ll have to change your attitude I’m afraid. As the weather in Norway might change 10 times a day - especially autumn and spring time. And it’s gona be much shorter days winter time.
📍4 - You don’t like outdoor activities.
In Norway people spend their time outdoors all year around.
Summer is ideal for hiking, winter is perfect for skiing and snowboarding.
The house is just a hub to pack your lunch and discuss your future outdoor adventures.
📍5 - You will have to work hard. Much harder than you worked in your country of origin.
If in your own country you are native, in any new country you will be a guest for a long time. And you will need to invest into society first to be accepted there and win your own place there
📍 6 - You will miss your local food and ingredients
In Norway you will have to learn how to cook from local ingredients. Norwegian ingredients are not bad at all! Check local supermarkets in Norway and find exactly what you like
📍 7 - You will not party as you used to in Norway
I repeat it’s not a party culture!
Party in Norway is happening different way - every Saturday or Sunday if you go hiking you’ll meet a lot of people doing the same.
That’s where Norwegian party and social life happening - outdoors!
Also we are having dinners with friends here. But that dinner will be with much less alcohol compare to some other European countries and most probably by 10pm everyone will go back home.
📍8 - You are smoking
It’s bad anywhere in the world but in Norway it’s also insanely expensive.
Let’s have a look at maths:
1 pack of Marlboro red is NOK = US Dollars
If you smoke even a half pack a day, 1 year of smoking in Norway will cost you about €2 555
📍9 - You will miss your family and friends
That’s 100% and you cannot do much about it. But remember, this is your choice to change the country so you are the only to be responsible for your decision.
Advice here: regular visits - both sides combined with modern technology- face time, teams.
I know it’s not the same but it’s a part of the process and you have to be prepared for it.
📍10 - If you like complaining to strangers- especially on the bus, if you like judging people and always know best how they should behave and what they should wear, if you can’t deal with your curiosity and keep asking everyone around why they don’t have kids yet or when they are planning to get married and it seems it too late anyway - you better don’t come to Norway.
📍 11 - You will never be Norwegian. Let me put it this way: you will never adjust yourself 100%. You’ll always have an accent - if you are moving the countries at the age of 20 and above - 99% you’ll have an accent.
It’s not your nationality what makes you special, it’s your own actions.

Immigration to Norway
According to Statistics Norway the immigrant population make up 15.6 per cent of the population in Norway. The number includes immigrants and children born in Norway to two immigrant parents. The five largest immigrant groups in Norway are in turn Polish, Swedish, Somali, Lithuanian and Pakistani.
At the beginning of 1992 the immigrant population in Norway was 183,000 persons, or 4.3 per cent of the total population. 23 years later, at the beginning of 2015, the number had risen to 815,000 persons, (or 15.6 per cent of the population.) The immigration has increased drastically in recent years, with net immigration exceeding 40,000.
History
The Viking Age introduced the practice of Royal intermarriage common in European aristocracies and elsewhere. Norwegian kings used to seek their wives from other Royal houses, in order to foster ties with foreign countries. See the Kings of Norway family tree.
Other historical fields linked to migrations were trade and academia, bringing workforce and innovation respectively. The Hanseatic League introduced large scale trade in Bergen and Northern Norway. Mining in Kongsberg, Røros and other places was made possible by immigrants from nearby countries. During the 19th century the evolution of dairies and the industrial exploitation of waterfalls depended on immigrants. Before the University was established in Christiania in 1811, almost all civil servants from up to circa 1500, were migrants.

Norge (Bokmål) or Noreg (Nynorsk)), officially the Kingdom of Norway, is a sovereign and unitary monarchy whose territory comprises the western portion of the Scandinavian Peninsula plus the island Jan Mayen and the archipelago of Svalbard. The Antarctic Peter I Island and the sub-Antarctic Bouvet Island are dependent territories and thus not considered part of the Kingdom. Norway also lays claim to a section of Antarctica known as Queen Maud Land. Until 1814, the Kingdom included the Faroe Islands (since 1035), Greenland (1261), and Iceland (1262). It also included Shetland and Orkney until 1468.
Norway has a total area of 385,252 square kilometres (148,747 sq mi) and a population of 5,109,059 people (2014). The country shares a long eastern border with Sweden (1,619 km or 1,006 mi long). Norway is bordered by Finland and Russia to the north-east, and the Skagerrak Strait to the south, with Denmark on the other side. Norway has an extensive coastline, facing the North Atlantic Ocean and the Barents Sea.

Norway Pavilion at Epcot
The Norway Pavilion is a Norway-themed pavilion that is part of the World Showcase, within Epcot at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Its location is between the Mexican and Chinese Pavilions.
Layout
The 58,000-square-foot (5,400 m2) Norway Pavilion is designed to look like a Norwegian village. The village includes a detailed Stave church, and the exterior of its main table-service restaurant, Restaurant Akershus, resembles its namesake in Oslo. The exhibit showcases 4 styles of Norwegian architecture: Setesdal-style, Bergen-style, Oslo-style and Ålesund-style.
Much of the pavilion is taken up by interconnected shops. These shops are decorated with large wooden trolls and sell assorted Norwegian goods, including clothing, candy, and statuettes of Norse gods and trolls. The courtyard of the pavilion contains the entrance to Maelstrom, a boat ride into Norway's past and present. Kringla Bakeri og Kafé is a bakery, featuring assorted Norwegian pastries, such as cream horns and open-faced salmon sandwiches. The courtyard contains the entrance to Restaurant Akershus, featuring a hot and cold buffet and "Princess Storybook Dining."

📍 2 - Adjusting to the new climate
I’m getting this question a lot - how can you handle winter in Norway?
My usual answer is - I can handle it with no issues and with a great pleasure!
📍 3 - You are weather dependant
Like you can’t work or you can’t create when the sun doesn’t shine.
That’s different. And you’ll have to change your attitude I’m afraid. As the weather in Norway might change 10 times a day - especially autumn and spring time. And it’s gona be much shorter days winter time.
📍4 - You don’t like outdoor activities.
In Norway people spend their time outdoors all year around.
Summer is ideal for hiking, winter is perfect for skiing and snowboarding.
The house is just a hub to pack your lunch and discuss your future outdoor adventures.
📍5 - You will have to work hard. Much harder than you worked in your country of origin.
If in your own country you are native, in any new country you will be a guest for a long time. And you will need to invest into society first to be accepted there and win your own place there
📍 6 - You will miss your local food and ingredients
In Norway you will have to learn how to cook from local ingredients. Norwegian ingredients are not bad at all! Check local supermarkets in Norway and find exactly what you like
📍 7 - You will not party as you used to in Norway
I repeat it’s not a party culture!
Party in Norway is happening different way - every Saturday or Sunday if you go hiking you’ll meet a lot of people doing the same.
That’s where Norwegian party and social life happening - outdoors!
Also we are having dinners with friends here. But that dinner will be with much less alcohol compare to some other European countries and most probably by 10pm everyone will go back home.
📍8 - You are smoking
It’s bad anywhere in the world but in Norway it’s also insanely expensive.
Let’s have a look at maths:
1 pack of Marlboro red is NOK = US Dollars
If you smoke even a half pack a day, 1 year of smoking in Norway will cost you about €2 555
📍9 - You will miss your family and friends
That’s 100% and you cannot do much about it. But remember, this is your choice to change the country so you are the only to be responsible for your decision.
Advice here: regular visits - both sides combined with modern technology- face time, teams.
I know it’s not the same but it’s a part of the process and you have to be prepared for it.
📍10 - If you like complaining to strangers- especially on the bus, if you like judging people and always know best how they should behave and what they should wear, if you can’t deal with your curiosity and keep asking everyone around why they don’t have kids yet or when they are planning to get married and it seems it too late anyway - you better don’t come to Norway.
📍 11 - You will never be Norwegian. Let me put it this way: you will never adjust yourself 100%. You’ll always have an accent - if you are moving the countries at the age of 20 and above - 99% you’ll have an accent.
It’s not your nationality what makes you special, it’s your own actions.

In the autumn of 2007, a Fleming 65 named Venture started south from the Pacific Northwest on a voyage that would ultimately take her and her crew down the west coast of north and central America, out to the Galapagos Islands, through the Panama Canal and up the east coast of the USA into the Great Lakes and down the St Lawrence Seaway to Nova Scotia. In Part 8 Venture continues down the mighty St. Lawrence River - now 10 miles wide - to the Eastern provinces of Canada and Prince Edward Island.

📍 1 - Learning new language - Norwegian is a rare language.
If you think about it, the population of Norway is 5 million 747 thousand people. And those people speak 3 official language of Norway:
Nynorsk
Bolmål
And Sami
So if you are not willing to study Norwegian and start learning it well in advance - you better don’t move to Norway.
📍 2 - Adjusting to the new climate
I’m getting this question a lot - how can you handle winter in Norway?
My usual answer is - I can handle it with no issues and with a great pleasure!
📍 3 - You are weather dependant
Like you can’t work or you can’t create when the sun doesn’t shine.
That’s different. And you’ll have to change your attitude I’m afraid. As the weather in Norway might change 10 times a day - especially autumn and spring time. And it’s gona be much shorter days winter time.
📍4 - You don’t like outdoor activities.
In Norway people spend their time outdoors all year around.
Summer is ideal for hiking, winter is perfect for skiing and snowboarding.
The house is just a hub to pack your lunch and discuss your future outdoor adventures.
📍5 - You will have to work hard. Much harder than you worked in your country of origin.
If in your own country you are native, in any new country you will be a guest for a long time. And you will need to invest into society first to be accepted there and win your own place there
📍 6 - You will miss your local food and ingredients
In Norway you will have to learn how to cook from local ingredients. Norwegian ingredients are not bad at all! Check local supermarkets in Norway and find exactly what you like
📍 7 - You will not party as you used to in Norway
I repeat it’s not a party culture!
Party in Norway is happening different way - every Saturday or Sunday if you go hiking you’ll meet a lot of people doing the same.
That’s where Norwegian party and social life happening - outdoors!
Also we are having dinners with friends here. But that dinner will be with much less alcohol compare to some other European countries and most probably by 10pm everyone will go back home.
📍8 - You are smoking
It’s bad anywhere in the world but in Norway it’s also insanely expensive.
Let’s have a look at maths:
1 pack of Marlboro red is NOK = US Dollars
If you smoke even a half pack a day, 1 year of smoking in Norway will cost you about €2 555
📍9 - You will miss your family and friends
That’s 100% and you cannot do much about it. But remember, this is your choice to change the country so you are the only to be responsible for your decision.
Advice here: regular visits - both sides combined with modern technology- face time, teams.
I know it’s not the same but it’s a part of the process and you have to be prepared for it.
📍10 - If you like complaining to strangers- especially on the bus, if you like judging people and always know best how they should behave and what they should wear, if you can’t deal with your curiosity and keep asking everyone around why they don’t have kids yet or when they are planning to get married and it seems it too late anyway - you better don’t come to Norway.
📍 11 - You will never be Norwegian. Let me put it this way: you will never adjust yourself 100%. You’ll always have an accent - if you are moving the countries at the age of 20 and above - 99% you’ll have an accent.
It’s not your nationality what makes you special, it’s your own actions.

Immigration to Norway
According to Statistics Norway the immigrant population make up 15.6 per cent of the population in Norway. The number includes immigrants and children born in Norway to two immigrant parents. The five largest immigrant groups in Norway are in turn Polish, Swedish, Somali, Lithuanian and Pakistani.
At the beginning of 1992 the immigrant population in Norway was 183,000 persons, or 4.3 per cent of the total population. 23 years later, at the beginning of 2015, the number had risen to 815,000 persons, (or 15.6 per cent of the population.) The immigration has increased drastically in recent years, with net immigration exceeding 40,000.
History
The Viking Age introduced the practice of Royal intermarriage common in European aristocracies and elsewhere. Norwegian kings used to seek their wives from other Royal houses, in order to foster ties with foreign countries. See the Kings of Norway family tree.
Other historical fields linked to migrations were trade and academia, bringing workforce and innovation respectively. The Hanseatic League introduced large scale trade in Bergen and Northern Norway. Mining in Kongsberg, Røros and other places was made possible by immigrants from nearby countries. During the 19th century the evolution of dairies and the industrial exploitation of waterfalls depended on immigrants. Before the University was established in Christiania in 1811, almost all civil servants from up to circa 1500, were migrants.

In the autumn of 2007, a Fleming 65 named Venture started south from the Pacific Northwest on a voyage that would ultimately take her and her crew down the west coast of north and central America, out to the Galapagos Islands, through the Panama Canal and up the east coast of the USA into the Great Lakes and down the St Lawrence Seaway to Nova Scotia. In Part 8 Venture continues down the mighty St. Lawrence River - now 10 miles wide - to the Eastern provinces of Canada and Prince Edward Island.

The acclaimed composer has turned into music the voices of the eight million people that asks for Arctic protection
With this action, Greenpeace is urging the OSPAR Commission not to miss the opportunity to protect international Arctic waters under its mandate at this week's meeting in Tenerife
Through his music, acclaimed Italian composer and pianist Ludovico Einaudi has added his voice to those of eight million people from across the world demanding protection for the Arctic.
Einaudi performed one of his own compositions on a floating platform in the middle of the Ocean, against the backdrop of the Wahlenbergbreen glacier (in Svalbard, Norway).
Travelling on board Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise on the eve of a significant event for the future of the Arctic: this week's meeting of the OSPAR Commission, which could secure the first protected area in Arctic international waters.
