Saint Lucia - Caribbean Sea
Saint Lucia is an island country in the eastern Caribbean Sea on the boundary with the Atlantic Ocean. Part of the Lesser Antilles, it is located north/northeast of the islands of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, northwest of Barbados and south of Martinique. It covers a land area of 620 km2 (238 sq mi) and has an estimated population of 160000. Its capital is Castries. The island nation has been the home of two Nobel laureates, Arthur Lewis and Derek Walcott. It is the nation with the second most such honorees per capita after Faroe Islands. One of the Windward Islands, it was named for Saint Lucy of Syracuse by the French, the first European colonizers. They signed a treaty with the native Carib peoples in 1660. Great Britain took control of the island from 1663 to 1667; in ensuing years, it was at war with France 14 times and rule of the island changed frequently (7 times French and British each). In 1814, the British took definitive control of the island. Because it switched so often between British and French control, Saint Lucia was also known as the "Helen of the West Indies." Saint Lucia has a legal system based on British common law. The judiciary is independent and conducts generally fair public trials. The financial sector has weathered the global financial crisis, but the recession has hurt tourism. Representative government came about in 1924 (with universal adult suffrage from 1953). From 1958 to 1962 the island was a member of the Federation of the West ...

Caribbean snorkeling - a world of beauty
Snorkeling in the Caribbean is probably my most favourite thing to do. The people of the Caribbean are friendly and beautiful, culture is diverse, scenery is spectacular and being pampered at a resort is an unbelievable experience, but for me it's getting in that aqua blue clear water that is the excitement of the Caribbean. Warm and clear water, whether just off a resort beach or on an organized snorkeling tour to a nearby reef, the undersea world is my favourite escape. Not all resorts have good snorkeling right of the beach, when I find one of those and at anytime I can submerge into the undersea world, it's pure heaven. Sadly the reefs and all the creatures that call this unique ecosystem home is under attack from the increasing temperature of the oceans. Music: 'Tunnelflight by www.elixirion.com

These images and these sounds were recorded during a travel from "Toulouse" to "Paris", and from "Paris" to "Martinique". We see the North and the South of "Martinique", the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, during the rainy season in July, 2011.
This small video was thought before I arrive on the scene. The images were not priority but it's the sound which guided the shoot and the edition.
Sounds recorded with a zoom H4N (post sync).
Images shot with a tripod and a 7D.

'Preener'
(Natural History Episode 4)
Shown above is a 1cm Mithraculus cinctimanus, commonly known as the banded clinging crab. Typically this species is known to live in association with a variety of Caribbean sea anemone species. However, several years ago we noticed that juvenile and sub-adult banded clinging crabs seemed to prefer the protection amongst Ricordea florida polyps in the wild. When they are small, like this one, the carapace (shell) of the crab is nearly entirely covered by a fuzzy red algal camouflage. As they get larger (up to 25mm) they lose much of this hairy coat, revealing a striking white and maroon patterned exoskeleton.
The video shows the crab alternating between preening its own algae covered carapace and the fluorescent tentacles of the Ricordea florida on which it lives. It is possible that the crab may ingest some of the polyps' mucus as an occasional food source. The video was sped up considerably (9x). At normal speed the polyps appear static, but at this speed the regular hydraulic undulations and contractions of the R. florida polyps are clearly visible.
