"Anti" Magnetic water and Levitating Graphite by Diamagnetism
Diamagnetism is the property of a substance to be repelled by a magnetic field. Interestingly enough, water shows this effect. We build a simple, but very sensitive detector to show this. We also show pyrolytic carbon that is so diamagnetic that it can float above magnets if they are arranged the right way. Water is diamagnetic, meaning it's slightly repelled by a magnetic field. But in everyday life this is almost impossible to notice. We need to build a very sensitive detector to see it. Just get a basin of water and float a styrofoam block in it. Styrofoam is very light and so even the small repulsive force of a test tube of water will have a noticeable push on it. Push the test tube of water into the center of the block and simply hold a strong neodymium magnet as close as possible to the tube without touching it. It's a very small force, but eventually the block will start moving away from the magnet. Pyrolytic graphite, also called pyrolytic carbon, exhibits the same effect and can even be made to levitate on top of a magnet. A single magnet is unstable since the graphite will like to fall off the side. But having four magnets and arranging them like in the video will create a "void" in the center that the graphite "falls" into and remains stably levitated. Structure Of Diamond And Graphite
Check us out at www.tutorvista.com The structure of diamond Carbon has an electronic arrangement of 2,4. In diamond, each carbon shares electrons with four other carbon atoms - forming four single bonds. In the diagram some carbon atoms only seem to be forming two bonds (or even one bond), but that's not really the case. We are only showing a small bit of the whole structure. This is a giant covalent structure - it continues on and on in three dimensions. It is not a molecule, because the number of atoms joined up in a real diamond is completely variable - depending on the size of the crystal The structure of Graphite :Graphite has a layer structure which is quite difficult to draw convincingly in three dimensions. The diagram below shows the arrangement of the atoms in each layer, and the way the layers are spaced. Notice that you can't really draw the side view of the layers to the same scale as the atoms in the layer without one or other part of the diagram being either very spread out or very squashed. In that case, it is important to give some idea of the distances involved. The distance between the layers is about 2.5 times the distance between the atoms within each layer. The layers, of course, extend over huge numbers of atoms - not just the few shown above. You might argue that carbon has to form 4 bonds because of its 4 unpaired electrons, whereas in this diagram it only seems to be forming 3 bonds to the neighbouring carbons. This diagram is something of a ...

Making a Graphite Crucible.wmv
This is a video of how to make a graphite crucible using a rather unique compression and extrusion process I invented. I am sorry it took so long but sometimes what looks easy on paper can turn out difficult. I welcome everyone to contribute in both technique and clay formulas to this project. I will try to answer any questions since I had more video footage than would fit into this 15 min video.

Corsair Graphite 600T Video Review
Get The Best Price on the Corsair Graphite 600T! Compare Prices at: Canada: N/A USA: hardwarecanucks.pgpartner.com UK: hardwarecanucks.pgpartner.co.uk Since Corsair's foray into the chassis market, consumers have clamoured for the company to produce not only a more moderately sized tower, but one more sensitive in price as well. Well, it's here, the new line of Corsair Graphite cases debuts with the 600T model, a mid tower that takes some of the best of the Obsidian series and packages it into a unique new design that gives off a little more personality than the original and even improves on many of the the common irrantants. From the ground up, this case was made for the computer builder and enthusiast. Not to say it isn't a great every day chassis, but to truly appreciate the 600T one has to be able to build with it, work with it and challenge it. How the 600T manages be so price concious is actually a bit of a mystery. Corsair has moved to plastic body accents for the exterior design, but otherwise the companies rigorous quality standards and uniquely engineered features give it the feel of a much more premium product. The list of standout features is extensive; from a gorgeous metallic flake graphite paint, to superb cable management design and vastly improved airflow, the 600T is not your average mid-tower. Corsair has made a bold step forward, moving away from the simple box design of the Obsidian series, and into a case with a little more attitude. They have given ...

Corsair Graphite Series 600T Special Edition White Review
After Corsair released their highly acclaimed Obsidian series of cases, many knew that it would be only a matter of time until less expensive yet smaller variants became available. Those predictions came true and today Corsair has a full sable of cases from the high end Obsidian to the entry level Carbide series. The one we're looking at today however is the mid-range Graphite 600T with a little twist: this one comes in a special edition white finish and is packed with additional features.

Drawdio: Turn Almost Anything Into a Theremin
Imagine you could draw musical instruments on normal paper with any pencil (cheap circuit thumb-tacked on) and then play them with your finger. The Drawdio circuit-craft lets you MacGuyver your everyday objects into musical instruments: paintbrushes, macaroni, trees, grandpa, even the kitchen sink... One day I bought a "harmonium" kit at the street market in Bangalore. I hacksawed the keyboard off to make the first ever Drawdio circuit. We played with it at a local school in the slums using plants, water, our foreheads, etc. My friend told me graphite would work too. Meditating on it, I realized the Drawdio circuit should be literally attached to a pencil to "draw audio," and that's where the name came from: Draw + Audio. DIY: Make it. Remix it. Play it. IDN Open 18th Issue
The great Chinese magazine IDN called us to create the opening for its new DVD, attached to its print version. The main topics of its 19th launch were mappings, projections, 8bits and pixels, and we decided to put everything together inside a blender and to start mixing! The result was a Latin-American cocktail, highly explosive, full of color, and with a great rhythm thanks to our Daft Plenty VJ!
It was the nice challenge. With a very little time we had to improvise and make something interesting that it mixes all these topics, taking in consideration the mapping technology.
The origin of the Open was a corporeal Pixel. Yes! A 50cm white wood cube on which we projected and mapped a pure motiongraphics explosion! Full of patterns and geometric forms re-adapted to the 8-bit world, inspired on the magic latinamerican ponchos and acient indigenous graphites to culminate with the IDN logo soaked in these colorful patterns.

GRAPHITE: A Visual Query System for Large Graphs
We present Graphite, a system that allows the user to visually construct a query pattern, finds both its exact and approximate matching subgraphs in large attributed graphs, and visualizes the matches. For example, in a social network where a person's occupation is an attribute, the user can draw a 'star' query for "finding a CEO who has interacted with a Secretary, a Manager, and an Accountant, or a structure very similar to this". Graphite uses the G-Ray algorithm to run the query against a user-chosen data graph, gaining all of its benefits, namely its high speed, scalability, and its ability to find both exact and near matches. Therefore, for the example above, Graphite tolerates indirect paths between, say, the CEO and the Accountant, when no direct path exists. Graphite uses fast algorithms to estimate node proximities when finding matches, enabling it to scale well with the graph database size. We demonstrate Graphite's usage and benefits using the DBLP author-publication graph, which consists of 356K nodes and 1.9M edges.

Silver Bar Making: Graphite Mould Test-Pour, & Lessons Learned BUCHAN BULL BULLION VIDEO #3
Welcome to the Buchan Bull Bullion Channel!! Your Economic & Financial Friend!! We specialize in Bullion Sales, Production and Custom Casting. Buchan Bull 99.9% Fine Silver, Traditionally Hand-Poured, Serialized and Sealed Bars should be available end-January 2011. This is the third bar making video that we are posting and is just a video of our test-pour with an engraved graphite mould. The results were mixed, but I believe that we will be using only cast iron and/or high-temperate steel moulds in all future production. We are selling about 20 of the bars cast in this video, these are like proto-type bars, but are serialized, weight stamped and sealed, just a way that we can offer some cheap pure bullion to our clients. We expect to do another test pour on 07Feb11, when our steel moulds will be ready, and this pour will consist mainly of 5 ounce bars. Please feel free to contact me at anytime with any inquiries And as always, All the Best, THE BULL jim@buchanbullbullion.com Worth noting is that our process uses 99.9% silver as our only input, thus the need for refining is greatly if not completely reduced. At Buchan Bull Bullion we basically melt and recast old silver, recycling, in a fairly environmentally responsible fashion as the need for the toxic chemicals during the leeching and refining process are extremely minimized if not 100% excluded. We start with 99.9% blanks sourced from various mints in the USA and Canada, some still in business, others out of production ...
