Master's programme Limnology and Oceanography
www.studeren.uva.nl/ma-limnology-oceanography Water covers 70% of the Earth's surface and sets our planet apart from every other planet we know. Water plays an important role in the global climate and is a source of food, minerals, energy and recreation. This programme offers an advanced curriculum, with a dual focus on freshwater ecosystems (limnology) and marine ecosystems (oceanography). It provides a challenging educational programme for students interested in the aquatic sciences, and offers career prospects in the scientific arena and social others.

Grandparents University 2008 -- Limnology Degree
The Limnology degree is one of 12 degrees that children and their grandparents can earn each summer at Grandparents University®. This award-winning, two-day workshop is a chance for children (recommended ages 7-14) and their grandparents to come together and learn from each other in a dynamic atmosphere on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. What better way for grandparents and grandchildren to spend time together than sharing stories, reliving and creating memories, and earning a degree together from UW-Madison? Grandparents University is offered by the Wisconsin Alumni Association and UW-Extension Family Living Programs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The limnology courses are offered by the UW Limnology Department and the UW Sea Grant Institute. www.uwalumni.com

Creatures in Limnology
Creatures in Limnology
The first of these animals is Bosmina longirostra, a cladoceran related to such things as Daphnia. The frontmost appendages are swimming antennae used for propulsion through water, while the blurred movement on its stomach is a series of feeding legs. The second of these is Trichoceras, a rotifer. It has a single foot on the end of its body, which it used to attach itself to the microscope slide. On its anterior (head) end is a corona--twin crowns of cilia that create a current, drawing food to the animal. This footage was taken during the Spring Semester of 2011, in a Limnology course taught by Alan Wilson at Auburn University, AL. Each of these animals are roughly 200-250 microns in length.
