Cathedral - Redepmption at Lincoln
For More Great Documentaries please visit www.DocumentaryList.NET and support the site The history of Britain and the aspirations of her Christian communities can be traced in the glorious excesses of the cathedrals. From Norman grandeur to the modern interpretations found in Liverpool and Coventry, explore the changing styles of the cathedrals in our midst. As the first Gothic cathedral to be built in Britain, Canterbury was at the forefront of an architectural revolution. But the building we know today has its origins in the most famous murder of the medieval age -- that of Thomas Becket in December 1170. St. Giles' in Edinburgh is among our most modest cathedrals, yet became the symbolic heart of Scottish Christianity. When Charles I tried to change the way Scots worshipped and turn the church into a cathedral, he was playing with fire. Here, the building's unsettled history is brought to life. In the early 19th century the grand architecture of York Minster was an enigma. But then in 1829 "the voice of God" drove Jonathan Martin to burn the cathedral down. While locals became obsessed with finding and punishing the perpetrator, architect John Browne became equally enthralled by the secrets the decimated structure began to reveal.

Lincoln Cathedral UK
Lincoln Cathedral is one of the finest medieval buildings in Europe. In 1092 the Cathedral at Lincoln built by Bishop Remigius was consecrated. Remigius, was the first Norman Bishop of the largest diocese in medieval England, extending from the Humber to the Thames and in 1072 William instructed that the Bishopric should be moved to Lincoln. A castle had already been established in Lincoln by William, located in the south-west corner of the old Roman upper city. The new cathedral was built of Lincolnshire oolitic limestone opposite the castle in the south-east corner

I Love the Lord (Harvey) — Choir of Lincoln Cathedral
The Choir of Lincoln Cathedral, under the direction of Aric Prentice, perform Jonathan Harvey's modern choral motet 'I Love the Lord'. Text: I love the Lord, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live. The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow. Then called I upon the name of the Lord; O Lord, I beseech thee, deliver my soul. Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee. For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling. I will walk before the Lord, in the land of the living. (Psalm 116, vv. 1-4, 7-9)

Chartres Labyrinth at Lincoln Cathedral
British author Dan Green walks a replica of the Chartres Cathedral labyrinth, chalked on the stone floor between the opposing 'Light' and 'Dark' Rose Windows of Lincoln Cathedral. The replica, created by the Lincoln University School of Architecture, stood in place for 48 hours on November 23rd 2011. The centre of the labyrinth is known as 'The Road to Jerusalem' and 'The Temple of Jerusalem', and three miles West of Lincoln Cathedral is the curiously named village Jerusalem. The deep alchemical symbology of the transference of this mystical archetype and its relationship to Dan Green's 'Lincoln Cathedral Code' is currently to remain confidential.
