Columbus, Ohio

One lovely day in June 1984, the first years went to visit the Sankey Valley Park. The teachers on this trip were,Miss Garlock, Miss Banks, Mrs Brown & Mr Ken Wynn. Everyone seemed to have a great, friendly 'fun' day with their teachers. Some great close ups and several confident speakers. Oh Happy Days!

Arie Shapira was born on November 29th, 1943, at kibbutz Afikim, in the Jordan Valley. In 1947 his family moved to Petach Tikva, where he got his first piano lessons. Upon completion of his high-school studies he started studying Philosophy at the University of Tel-Aviv (1962-1965). In 1963 he began to study Composition at the Academy of Music, Tel Aviv. Among his teachers were Oedoen Partos, Mordecai Seter, Arthur Gelbrun and Abel Ehrlich. Arie Shapira completed his studies at the Academy of Music in 1968. In 1986 he received the Prime Minister's Prize for Composition, and in 1994 he was awarded the Israel Prize for Composition and Teaching. Shapira composes symphonic music, chamber music, electronic music, and music for solo instruments. From 1995 he is a lecturer at the Department of Music in Haifa University Off Piano was composed and dedicated for Michal Tal , who premiered it in 1985. This recording is from Psanterin- an antology for Israeli piano music.

But it doesn't end there. Maraniss reveals that Obama was living at this exact period of time at 622 West 114th Street, in New York, which is ONE-HALF MILE from the college! Maraniss states that Obama was living there as a border, but offers no details who he was living with. Could it have been Bill Ayers? There has been an undeniable epidemic of teachers having affairs with their high school or middle school students. However, the BBC recently reported on a teacher/student affair story in the United Kingdom that had an interesting twist:
A female student allegedly seduced her educator into having a five month affair with her. The twist in this story is the fact that her teacher is also a female.
Helen Goddard, who is a 26-year-old music teacher, now faces a 15 month jail sentence for having a sexual relationship with a student under the age of 16. Although the age of consent in most states in the U.S. is 18, it is important to keep in mind that 16 is the legal age of consent in the U.K.
Goddard, pleaded guilty to six counts of sexual activity with the student after an anonymous email tip-off was sent to school authorities. The teacher took a trip to Paris with the student to participate in a Gay Rights march.
Judge Anthony Pitts had a difficult time sentencing Goddard, and said: "This is a difficult case. The evidence showed you were having a full-on sexual relationship with the girl for many months."
Pitts continued to say that the student confessed to pressuring her teacher into have a sexual relationship with her. "She has made it clear that the sexual contact between you was consensual and she says in her statement that in fact it was instigated by her.
If I were the judge in this case, I would not have a difficult time sentencing Goddard. A young girl under 16 is impressionable and should not have a sexual relationship with a woman in her mid twenties. The fact that this relationship blossomed in a school setting is also extremely unacceptable.
What amazes me is the fact that Goddard is a beautiful woman, and she could have easily found a lover in her own age group. Although she claims she was seduced by her student, she should have been smart enough to take a step back, analyze the situation, and prevent herself from risking her dignity and career.
In the video below, I discuss this story with Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks Show on XM Satellite Radio. One point Uygur makes is the fact that if the educator was a male, no one would think twice about giving him a long jail sentence.

ROCKLAND, Mass. — An elementary school teacher accused of having sex with a teenage boy pleaded not guilty to rape charges Friday.
Christine A. McCallum, 29, of Rockland, is accused of having multiple sexual encounters with the boy that began when he was 13 years old. The alleged incidents occurred in Abington and Rockland.
McCallum was released on $10,000 bond after she pleaded not guilty to three counts of rape at Brockton District Court for the incidents in Abington. She also pleaded not guilty later Friday in Hingham District Court on four additional counts for the alleged rapes in Rockland.
The married fifth-grade teacher has been fired from her job at Woodsdale Elementary School in Abington, Superintendent Peter G. Schafer said Friday.
"We are aware and are deeply concerned about the disturbing allegations against her, and we will be fully cooperating with the authorities," Schafer said in a statement.
Rockland police Chief John Llewellyn said his officers and Abington police arrested McCallum at her home Thursday night.
Plymouth District Attorney Tim Cruz said McCallum was working as a teacher's aide and tutoring the boy's younger brother when the relationship began. Cruz said the father of the boy, now 16, went to authorities recently after he found some correspondence between his son and McCallum
"The allegations are very disturbing, when you are alleging that a grown woman in a position of trust ... is allegedly having a sexual relationship with a child," Cruz said.
In court, Assistant District Attorney Michael Scott said McCallum had become like a surrogate mother to the boy, who lives in Abington and was being raised by a single father. He said the relationship progressed to kissing and sex after McCallum plied the boy with alcohol.
McCallum's attorney, Frederick McDermott, said there was no evidence his client ever had sex with the teen. He said she acted as the boy's surrogate mother, but that relationship ended in July 2007 after she caught the boy stealing liquor from her home.
McCallum was ordered to stay away from the boy, his family, and all children under 16. She also must wear a tracking device and surrender her passport.
A telephone message left at a number for a Christine A. McCallum in Rockland was not immediately returned Friday.

POST FALLS, Idaho (CBS/AP) A 28-year-old Post Falls woman faces charges that she had sex with a 14-year-old boy that she was hired to watch in August 2007.
Summer Nelson was charged Monday with four counts of lewd conduct with a child.
Court records say Nelson was the boy's babysitter and friend of the mother. Police say the abuse was reported in December 2008, after the boy's mother grew suspicious of Nelson's attention towards her oldest son.
Investigators say Nelson told the boy's siblings that she was in love with their brother and asked the boy's mother for her blessing, according to KXLY.
Detectives say Nelson and the boy had at least four sexual encounters.
Nelson remains held in Kootenai County Jail on $50,000 bond. It was not immediately known if she had a lawyer.
If convicted, Nelson could face up to life in prison.

Teacher Sexting Naked Pics to Student

LONDONDERRY, N.H. (CBS/WBZ) Perhaps New Hampshire high school teacher Melinda Dennehy missed the orientation session when they explained that sending your naked photos to a student is sort of a bad idea.
Police say the 41-year-old English teacher sent four sexy shots of herself to a 15-year-old male student at Londonderry High School. The student, it seems, thought that was pretty nifty. Police say he forwarded the images to his friends.
According to police documents, the pictures were sent two months ago. Investigators say they obtained a copy of one of the photos and co-workers identified Dennehy.
The teen told police that Dennehy had "continuously sent him text messages," some of which were sexually explicit. He also claimed that she "kissed him twice on two separate occasions" in a classroom at school.
Dennehy, of Hampstead, turned herself in to Londonderry police Friday. She is charged with one felony count of indecent exposure. Hampstead is 30 miles northwest from Concord.
The mother of two has since been freed on bail, but was ordered to stay away from anyone under 16. Police do not know of any other victims.

Texas Teacher/Tramp, Brittni Colleps Has Orgies W/5 Male Students!

ARLINGTON - A female high school coach and teacher surrendered to Arlington police Monday morning after a warrant was issued for her arrest involving a sex scandal with multiple students.
Investigators say some students allegedly involved with 27-year-old Brittni Colleps had exchanged sexually explicit texts and pictures with her.
Colleps is a first-year teacher of English and girls' freshman basketball at Kennedale High School, according to her school bio page, which has since disappeared.
She is accused of having improper relationships with five male Kennedale High School students, who are all 18 years old or older. However, it is against the law for teachers to have sex with students, no matter what their ages.
Arlington police began investigating the allegations on Wednesday, May 11 after the school staff and Kennedale police notified the agency. According to investigators, the students described having sex with Colleps at her Arlington home during April and May of this year.
Colleps is married to a man who serves in the military, and is currently stationed elsewhere. Her attorney tells FOX 4 the couple has three children. Investigators say the children were not at the home during the offenses.
Colleps posted $125,000 bail Monday afternoon. She is charged with five felony counts of inappropriate relationship between a teacher and a student.

Basically, I was asked to compose a song for the celebration of the Teachers' Day. And my band was asked to play the song during the short program. But we had no time to practice as a band because each of us were busy except me and another person but he went home early so I'm doomed. And alone. Since it's going to be on Tuesday, one of the members suggested that I should probably just record it and they'll listen and try to teach themselves. Then we're going to practice a day after the celebration. Gawd. They're that confident. Okay. So here's the piano version of the song. I put on the lyrics too so you can sing along. lol. It's easy to sing, really. I'll upload the video with my voice some time around.

There has been an undeniable epidemic of teachers having affairs with their high school or middle school students. However, the BBC recently reported on a teacher/student affair story in the United Kingdom that had an interesting twist:
A female student allegedly seduced her educator into having a five month affair with her. The twist in this story is the fact that her teacher is also a female.
Helen Goddard, who is a 26-year-old music teacher, now faces a 15 month jail sentence for having a sexual relationship with a student under the age of 16. Although the age of consent in most states in the U.S. is 18, it is important to keep in mind that 16 is the legal age of consent in the U.K.
Goddard, pleaded guilty to six counts of sexual activity with the student after an anonymous email tip-off was sent to school authorities. The teacher took a trip to Paris with the student to participate in a Gay Rights march.
Judge Anthony Pitts had a difficult time sentencing Goddard, and said: "This is a difficult case. The evidence showed you were having a full-on sexual relationship with the girl for many months."
Pitts continued to say that the student confessed to pressuring her teacher into have a sexual relationship with her. "She has made it clear that the sexual contact between you was consensual and she says in her statement that in fact it was instigated by her.
If I were the judge in this case, I would not have a difficult time sentencing Goddard. A young girl under 16 is impressionable and should not have a sexual relationship with a woman in her mid twenties. The fact that this relationship blossomed in a school setting is also extremely unacceptable.
What amazes me is the fact that Goddard is a beautiful woman, and she could have easily found a lover in her own age group. Although she claims she was seduced by her student, she should have been smart enough to take a step back, analyze the situation, and prevent herself from risking her dignity and career.
In the video below, I discuss this story with Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks Show on XM Satellite Radio. One point Uygur makes is the fact that if the educator was a male, no one would think twice about giving him a long jail sentence.

ROCKLAND, Mass. — An elementary school teacher accused of having sex with a teenage boy pleaded not guilty to rape charges Friday.
Christine A. McCallum, 29, of Rockland, is accused of having multiple sexual encounters with the boy that began when he was 13 years old. The alleged incidents occurred in Abington and Rockland.
McCallum was released on $10,000 bond after she pleaded not guilty to three counts of rape at Brockton District Court for the incidents in Abington. She also pleaded not guilty later Friday in Hingham District Court on four additional counts for the alleged rapes in Rockland.
The married fifth-grade teacher has been fired from her job at Woodsdale Elementary School in Abington, Superintendent Peter G. Schafer said Friday.
"We are aware and are deeply concerned about the disturbing allegations against her, and we will be fully cooperating with the authorities," Schafer said in a statement.
Rockland police Chief John Llewellyn said his officers and Abington police arrested McCallum at her home Thursday night.
Plymouth District Attorney Tim Cruz said McCallum was working as a teacher's aide and tutoring the boy's younger brother when the relationship began. Cruz said the father of the boy, now 16, went to authorities recently after he found some correspondence between his son and McCallum
"The allegations are very disturbing, when you are alleging that a grown woman in a position of trust ... is allegedly having a sexual relationship with a child," Cruz said.
In court, Assistant District Attorney Michael Scott said McCallum had become like a surrogate mother to the boy, who lives in Abington and was being raised by a single father. He said the relationship progressed to kissing and sex after McCallum plied the boy with alcohol.
McCallum's attorney, Frederick McDermott, said there was no evidence his client ever had sex with the teen. He said she acted as the boy's surrogate mother, but that relationship ended in July 2007 after she caught the boy stealing liquor from her home.
McCallum was ordered to stay away from the boy, his family, and all children under 16. She also must wear a tracking device and surrender her passport.
A telephone message left at a number for a Christine A. McCallum in Rockland was not immediately returned Friday.

POST FALLS, Idaho (CBS/AP) A 28-year-old Post Falls woman faces charges that she had sex with a 14-year-old boy that she was hired to watch in August 2007.
Summer Nelson was charged Monday with four counts of lewd conduct with a child.
Court records say Nelson was the boy's babysitter and friend of the mother. Police say the abuse was reported in December 2008, after the boy's mother grew suspicious of Nelson's attention towards her oldest son.
Investigators say Nelson told the boy's siblings that she was in love with their brother and asked the boy's mother for her blessing, according to KXLY.
Detectives say Nelson and the boy had at least four sexual encounters.
Nelson remains held in Kootenai County Jail on $50,000 bond. It was not immediately known if she had a lawyer.
If convicted, Nelson could face up to life in prison.

LONDONDERRY, N.H. (CBS/WBZ) Perhaps New Hampshire high school teacher Melinda Dennehy missed the orientation session when they explained that sending your naked photos to a student is sort of a bad idea.
Police say the 41-year-old English teacher sent four sexy shots of herself to a 15-year-old male student at Londonderry High School. The student, it seems, thought that was pretty nifty. Police say he forwarded the images to his friends.
According to police documents, the pictures were sent two months ago. Investigators say they obtained a copy of one of the photos and co-workers identified Dennehy.
The teen told police that Dennehy had "continuously sent him text messages," some of which were sexually explicit. He also claimed that she "kissed him twice on two separate occasions" in a classroom at school.
Dennehy, of Hampstead, turned herself in to Londonderry police Friday. She is charged with one felony count of indecent exposure. Hampstead is 30 miles northwest from Concord.
The mother of two has since been freed on bail, but was ordered to stay away from anyone under 16. Police do not know of any other victims.

Texas Teacher/Tramp, Brittni Colleps Has Orgies W/5 Male Students!
ARLINGTON - A female high school coach and teacher surrendered to Arlington police Monday morning after a warrant was issued for her arrest involving a sex scandal with multiple students.
Investigators say some students allegedly involved with 27-year-old Brittni Colleps had exchanged sexually explicit texts and pictures with her.
Colleps is a first-year teacher of English and girls' freshman basketball at Kennedale High School, according to her school bio page, which has since disappeared.
She is accused of having improper relationships with five male Kennedale High School students, who are all 18 years old or older. However, it is against the law for teachers to have sex with students, no matter what their ages.
Arlington police began investigating the allegations on Wednesday, May 11 after the school staff and Kennedale police notified the agency. According to investigators, the students described having sex with Colleps at her Arlington home during April and May of this year.
Colleps is married to a man who serves in the military, and is currently stationed elsewhere. Her attorney tells FOX 4 the couple has three children. Investigators say the children were not at the home during the offenses.
Colleps posted $125,000 bail Monday afternoon. She is charged with five felony counts of inappropriate relationship between a teacher and a student.

Teachers is a 1984 comedy-drama film starring Nick Nolte, JoBeth Williams, Ralph Macchio, and Judd Hirsch, written by W. R. McKinney and directed by Arthur Hiller. The movie was shot in Columbus, Ohio, mostly at the former Central High School. The building is now home to the COSI Columbus museum.

The film opens with a typical Monday morning at JFK High School, "typical" events including a fight between teachers, a student with a stab wound and talk of an upcoming lawsuit. We meet haggard Vice Principal Rubell (Hirsch) and clueless Principal Horn, as well as stuffy lawyer and former JFK alumna Lisa Hammond (Williams), who is in charge of taking depositions for the Calvin case, in which a recent graduate is suing the school for giving him a diploma despite his illiteracy.
Alex Jurel (played by Nick Nolte) is a veteran Social Studies teacher who takes his job lightly despite being one of the most popular teachers in school because of his ability to identify and connect with the students. Jurel has been worn down by years of being in-between the rowdy students and the demands of the administration (principal, vice principal, superintendent, and school board). He is assigned to temporarily take over the duties of the school psychologist (who started a fight in the office) and meets a young man named Eddie Pilikian (Macchio) to whom he becomes a mentor.
The major plotline centers on the Calvin lawsuit, with Superintendent Donna Burke (Lee Grant) and school lawyer Al Lewis (Morgan Freeman) attempting to avoid bad publicity associated with the case. To this end, they try to figure out which teachers will "rock the boat," or are critical of the school board policies. Intertwined with the major storyline are Jurel's efforts to reform Pilikian into a student who believes in himself and Jurel's growing moral conundrum that ultimately culminates in a showdown with Dr. Burke, who threatens to fire Jurel if he does not resign.
A number of minor plotlines deviate from the primary goings-on. These include Herbert Gower/Stuart Van Ark (Richard Mulligan), an outpatient from a mental institution who is accidentally put in charge of a U.S. History class and makes it fun and engaging; gym teacher Mr. Troy’s sexual relationship with a student that ends with Jurel taking the girl to an abortion clinic (a decision that later comes back to haunt him); and the death of Eddie Pilikian’s friend Danny (Crispin Glover), a schizophrenic and kleptomaniac student who is shot and killed by the police after he draws a gun from his locker during a drug search. A romance also begins between Jurel and the attorney Lisa Hammond (who at one point strips herself naked in the middle of a hallway). Lisa ultimately convinces Jurel that despite their many flaws, the students of JFKHS are worth risking reputation and career.
