VESAK Sri Lanka
Vesākha (Pali; Sanskrit: Vaiśākha वैशाख) is an annual holiday observed traditionally by Buddhists in the Indian subcontinent and South East Asian countries of Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Indonesia.[1] Sometimes informally called "Buddha's Birthday," it actually encompasses the birth, enlightenment (nirvāɳa), and passing away (Parinirvāna) of Gautama Buddha.[2] The exact date of Vesākha varies according to the various lunar calendars used in different traditions. In Theravada countries following the Buddhist calendar, it falls on the full moon Uposatha day (typically the 5th or 6th lunar month). Vesākha Day in China is on the eighth of the fourth month in the Chinese lunar calendar. The date varies from year to year in the Western Gregorian calendar but falls in April or May. In 2010 the first full moon day in May is the twenty-seventh.[3] However, Myanmar and Cambodia observe the event this year on April 28, 2010. (Extracted from Wikipedia)

For more news visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Follow us on Facebook ☛ facebook.com Hundreds of thousands of Buddhist in Thailand celebrated the Vesak Day holiday on Tuesday. The occasion marks the day the founder of Buddhism was born, a time they say was of spiritual enlightenment. On Tuesday, thousands of Buddhists in Thailand gathered in Pathumthani Province to celebrate Vesak Day. It's a traditional holiday for Buddhist countries. Vesak is the day that the founder of Buddhism was born. Around 10000 Buddhist monks prayed at Dhammakaya temple. After sunset, people light candles and walk clockwise three times around the main chapel to remember the day the Buddha was born. Buddhists also offer alms and pay homage to Buddha, as well as meditate, believing it will bring them peace and happiness in life. Vesak Day is also celebrated in other countries like Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Burma and Laos.

VESAK 2009
At the end of the nineteenth century, the collapse in India of a stupa that belonged to the clan of the Shakyas resulted in the discovery of authentic Relics of the historical Buddha that had been preserved for more than two millenia. One hundred eleven years later, considering the political upheaval in Asia and the spread of Buddhism in the West and especially in Europe, the Thai Patriarchs, with the approval of the Buddhist communities in Asia, decided to present the Relics to the Western World and to entrust them to a European nation, their new land of asylum. The Patriarchs selected France, land of the Rights of Man and more specifically Paris, a city that represents the dynamic nature of European Buddhism. The Buddhist Union of France received word from the Thai authorities, who asked the Union to receive and keep the Relics and to make plans to celebrate this historically significant event. The Relics are a gift to the West from Somdej Phra Buddhacharn, Head of Thailands Patriarchal Committee of the Sangha ...

UN Vesak Celebrations 2011 Part 1
UN Vesak Celebrations 2011 Part 2 on My Cambodia TV. Watch in Full HD. 2011 UN Vesak Celebrations. For the fourth consecutive year in a row, Victoria will observe the United Nations Day of Vesak, marking the start of a month when Buddhist communities globally come together to celebrate Vesak, the birth, passing and enlightenment of the Buddha. This year the event is especially significant as we celebrate 2600 years since Buddha's Enlightenment in India. Buddhism spans cultural groups such as Chinese, Taiwanese, Malaysian, Indonesian, Cambodian, Vietnamese, Loation, Thai, Mongolian, Tibetan, Burmese, Korean, Japanese, Indian, Sri Lankan, to name but a few. Buddhism has a strong history in Victoria since the goldrush days in 1848 and continues today with unique representation of many cultural groups and traditions and forms practiced in Melbourne and around the state. The 2011 Vesak Observance will be presented with a balance of Commemoration and Celebration. This year's program consists of a Procession from the Victoria State Library and the Main Event at the Townhall. The program highlights will be a dhamma talk by Ajahn Brahm, "Buddha - A mini-Musical'' and a significant dedication of 2000+ Buddhists meditating together at one time. We are honored again to have the support of the City of Melbourne and the Victorian Multicultural Commission, as well as the Victorian Buddhist Community.

Olympus Pen E-PL1 at the Vesak Day Procession 2010
The annual Vesak Day procession at the Maha Vihara Buddhist Temple in Brickfields presented a perfect opportunity to assess the new Olympus E-PL1 in a real world environment. The only in-camera adjustments I made was to set the white balance to warm to preserve the ambience. All other camera settings were left at factory default. The video was edited on the new Edius Neo 2 Booster. Again, no adjustments were made to the footage so that viewers can evaluate the original video quality of this new micro 4/3 camera. While the E-PL1's HD avi files can be viewed and edited natively on the Edius Neo Booster, I prefered to convert them to Canopus HQ Quality first. Slo-mo were applied to a couple of clips and the logo was inserted via a luminance key instead of chroma. The PIP feature was relatively painless and quick on the Neo. All in, it is a relatively powerful package for its price. The camera -- being primariliy a still camera -- of course has its quirks when used as a camcorder. Although there is a separate record button, it was in an akward position when the camera was mounted on a chest harness or balancing rig. I didn't want to carry along a tripod, so I used a giant alligator-jaw spring clamp which I clamped onto metal street signs whenever needed. A LitePanels Micro LED Light was mounted on the hotshoe for fill light. The audio from the Olympus Pen was surprisingly good. Normally the sound from a built-in monural microphone tends to be a bit muffled and will pick up a ...

"Awakening" - A Vesak Day by Singapore Sand Artist Lawrence - Sand Art
Visit My Website: sanddreamer.wordpress.com As a sand artist, I have always wanted to pay tribute to the amazing historical Shakyamuni Buddha. After so long, I have finally made it happened on Vesak Day itself! "As a lotus flower is born in water, grows in water and rises out of water to stand above it unsoiled, so I, born in the world, raised in the world having overcome the world, live unsoiled by the world" - Siddharta Gautama May the victims of any mental and physical suffering be protected and safe. May all sentient beings be blessed with love, wisdom and happiness! Having performed my sand art in Singapore / Asia and international performances and events, I totally enjoyed seeing stories being told and evolved through sand, music and light; bringing audience into the surreal world of sand art. May the beauty of sand art brings happiness, inspiration and motivation to everyone... Never forget your dreams! "To see the world in a grain of sand, and to see heaven in a wild flower, hold infinity in the palm of your hands, and eternity in an hour."
