Roderick David "Rod" Stewart, CBE (born 10 January 1945) is a British rock singer-songwriter. Born and raised in London, he is of Scottish and English ancestry. Stewart is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold over 100 million records worldwide.
He has had six consecutive number one albums in the UK, and his tally of 62 UK hit singles includes 31 that reached the top 10, six of which gained the number one position. He has had 16 top ten singles in the US, with four reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2007, he received a CBE at Buckingham Palace for services to music.
With his distinctive raspy singing voice, Stewart came to prominence in the late 1960s and early 1970s with The Jeff Beck Group and then with Faces, though his music career had begun in 1962 when he took up busking with a harmonica. In October 1963 he joined the Dimensions as a harmonica player and part-time vocalist, then in 1964 he joined Long John Baldry and the All Stars. Later, in August 1964, he also signed a solo contract, releasing his first solo single, "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl", in October of the same year. He maintained a solo career alongside a group career, releasing his debut solo album An Old Raincoat Won't Ever Let You Down (US: The Rod Stewart Album), in 1969. His early albums were a fusion of rock, folk music, soul music and R&B. His aggressive blues work with The Jeff Beck Group and the Faces influenced heavy metal genres. From the late 1970s through the 1990s, Stewart's music often took on a new wave or soft rock/middle-of-the-road quality, and in the early 2000s he released a series of successful albums interpreting the Great American Songbook.
Never a Dull Moment may refer to:
Stewart is a popular Scottish first name and surname. The word Stewart is derived from an occupational surname. It originally belonged to a person who was a steward by profession. It is derived from a combination of two Old English words, the word stig, which means house, and the word weard, which means guard. The first name translation of the word is often Stuart, hence the difference in the two.
"I'd Rather Go Blind" is a blues song written by Ellington Jordan and co-credited to Billy Foster. It was first recorded by Etta James in 1967, released in 1968, and has subsequently become regarded as a blues and soul classic.
Etta James wrote in her autobiography Rage To Survive that she heard the song outlined by her friend Ellington "Fugi" Jordan when she visited him in prison. She then wrote the rest of the song with Jordan, but for tax reasons gave her songwriting credit to her partner at the time, Billy Foster, singer with doo-wop group The Medallions.
Etta James recorded the song at the FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. It was included on the album Tell Mama and as the B-side of the single of the same name which made number 10 on the Billboard R&B charts and number 23 on the pop charts. The song is also on the 1978 Jerry Wexler-produced album Deep in the Night but it is titled "Blind Girl" (track 10). Some critics have regarded "I'd Rather Go Blind" as of such emotional and poetic quality that it makes that release one of the great double-sided singles of the period. Critic Dave Marsh put the song in his book The Heart of Rock and Soul: The 1001 Greatest Singles Ever Made (number 429).
"You Wear It Well" is a song written by Rod Stewart and Martin Quittenton, performed by Stewart. It utilizes an arrangement markedly similar to that of "Maggie May," one of Stewart's hits from the previous year.
Stewart recorded "You Wear It Well" for the album Never a Dull Moment, and released it as a single on 12 August 1972. The song became an international hit, reaching number one on the UK Singles Chart. In the US, "You Wear It Well" peaked at number thirteen on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Stewart performed the song live on BBC's Top of the Pops with the full lineup of The Faces, along with Martin Quittenton on classical guitar and Dick "Tricky Dicky" Powell on fiddle joining them. A live version of the song from his 2013 performance at The Troubadour, West Hollywood was included on the deluxe edition of the album Time.

Vocalist and songwriter Phil Perry’s rise to the top has been a long and fruitful journey. The East St. Louis native got his first break in the music business as the lead vocalist of the 1970’s soul group The Montclairs. After the group disbanded both he and former member Kevin Sanlin formed the duo Perry and Sanlin. The two recorded a pair of records on Capitol that received positive press and some airplay during the early 1980’s. During the 80’s Perry became a highly demanded back-up vocalist singing with the likes of Johnny Mathis, Chaka Khan, Anita Baker, Boz Scaggs, and Rod Stewart. He is also a successful songwriter. Phil’s breakout hit “Call Me,” a remake of Aretha Franklin’s 1970 hit, sky-rocked to the number # spot on the R & B charts from his debut album “The Heart of The Man”...

On this videotape, Pickett plays four excerpts from "The Thing" (nos. 7, 3, 15, 1), expansions on 1970's funk music idioms on tenor saxophone backed up with drums, bass, keyboard and guitar. The first excerpt is a rolling 12/8 jazz funk, the next tune another simple riff piece with a joyous upbeat feeling in interrupted duple time, th third begins as a moody ballad with a gospel feel that quickly cuts into a contrasting fast shuffle tempo, and the fourth and last selection is a shuffle funk tune built on little pointillistic figures. In his interview, Pickett discusses the idiosyncrasies of funk music, and his survival as a musician. For almost two decades, composer-performer-arranger Lenny Pickett has created the sound of the wailing saxophone that opens and closes the popular Saturday N...
Two old friends were at my birthday party on July 25th, 2010 - bass player Phil Chen (Rod Stewart, Jeff Beck, The Doors) and Jim Mullen (the UK's foremost jazz guitarist). Phil decided to ask Jim to explain why he plays with his thumb and this developed into an 'interview' style discussion that lasted for almost 12 minutes. Fortunately, I had anticipated that interesting things would happen at the party and had prompted my friend Aurora Colson to be ready to capture events such as this using my Flip video camera... so, thanks to Aurora's presence of mind that afternoon (she was 'on the case' with the video camera throughout the day recording lots of the music we were all playing), this interesting 'interview' is now available for us all to watch!
Noel Webster is one elusive cat. The man operates Muscle Shoals Sound in Sheffield, Alabama; a recording studio with a past as rich as some of the greatest studios in rock-n-roll history. “Hyperbole,” you ask? Perhaps. Perhaps, that is, if an act named the Rolling Stones doesn’t ring a bell. And you’ve never heard of Paul Simon. Or Bob Seger. Or Aretha Franklin. Or Rod Stewart. Or Lynyrd Skynyrd. Or….get our drift? (Did we mention last year’s Grammy-gobbling insta-classic “Brothers” from The Black Keys?) Yep. All recorded classic titles there in a rickety old building emblazoned with the address: 3614 Jackson Highway. But back to Noel. He owns the place. Brought it back to life, in fact, after it sat defunct for 20 years. He knows the history. He’s a master of great analog recordings an...
