Tech Forum Central Asia 2 - Almaty, Kazakhstan
Over 70 young professionals from South and Central Asia came to Almaty, Kazakhstan to learn how to use technology for social good. A dozen local and international technologists led trainings on various aspects of tech for social good as well as grant-writing and train-the-trainers seminars. Participants then competed in teams to win tech-training trips across Central Asia, to spread their newly acquired expertise. Tech Forum Central Asia 2 was the 18th in a series of global "Tech Camps" supporting Secretary Clinton's Civil Society 2.0 initiative and a follow-up event to the first Tech Forum hosted in June 2012 in Almaty.

Borodin - In the Steppes of Central Asia (1880), played on period instruments
In the Steppes of Central Asia (1880) A "musical tableau" for orchestra by Russian composer and chemist Alexander Borodin (1833-1887), a member of the group of composers known as The Five, or the Mighty Handful. The work was originally intended to celebrate the silver anniversary of the reign of Czar Alexander II, who had expanded the domain of Imperial Russia eastward into Central Asia. The celebration never came to fruition due to the assassination of the Czar; instead the piece was premiered in a concert in 1880 by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and the orchestra of the Russian Opera. Borodin dedicated it to Franz Liszt. This recording was made by conductor Jos van Immerseel and the Anima Eterna Orchestra, which plays on period instruments.

Strangers
Erman, a PETRONAS engineer stationed in Central Asia, struggles to adjust to life away from home, when his path crosses that of a local boy, Jeyhun. While Erman and Jeyhun start out as strangers, every step brings them closer to realising their true potential, to reimagining their energy and making a difference to those around them. Its a story of one man's journey of self-discovery and exploration towards the meaning of life While past PETRONAS TVCs have always celebrated stories from within Malaysia, this year, it tells a bigger story -- of the role that PETRONAS plays in its countries of operations.

Earth
Time lapse sequences of photographs taken by the crew of expeditions
28 & 29 onboard the International Space Station from August to October,
2011, who to my knowledge shot these pictures at an altitude of around 350 km.
All credit goes to them.
HD, refurbished, smoothed, retimed, denoised, deflickered, cut, etc.
All in all I tried to keep the looks of the material as original as possible,
avoided adjusting the colors and the like, since in my opinion the original
footage itself already has an almost surreal and aestethical visual nature.

Jalpak Tash- A Kyrgyzstan Epic
Kyrgyzstan is a place many have no idea about, and before The North Face athletes Leah Evans, Izzy Lynch and Mike Hopkins arrived to ski in the Tien Shan mountains, neither did they. In a country that is 80% mountains, skiing is offering glimmers of hope for the future. The crew embark on a trip that is part of a project to help generate employment opportunities for local Kyrgyz people after the collapse of the Soviet Union crippled the economy in the early 90's. Ski touring out of a traditional nomadic yurt, skiing perfect powder and first descents became a bonus at the end of an epic cultural adventure through the heart of Central Asia.
