B-24 LIBERATOR AMERICAN HEAVY BOMBER WW2
he Consolidated B-24 Liberator was an American heavy bomber, designed by Consolidated Aircraft Company of San Diego, California. Its mass production was brought into full force by 1943 with the aid of the Ford Motor Company through its newly constructed Willow Run facility, where peak production had reached one B-24 per hour and 650 per month in 1944.Other factories soon followed. The B-24 ended World War II as the most produced Allied heavy bomber in history, and the most produced American military aircraft at over 18400 units, thanks in large measure to Henry Ford and the harnessing of American industry. It still holds the distinction as the most-produced American military aircraft. The B-24 was used by several Allied air forces and navies, and by every branch of the American armed forces during the war, attaining a distinguished war record with its operations in the Western European, Pacific, Mediterranean, and China-Burma-India Theaters. Often compared with the better-known B-17 Flying Fortress, the B-24 was a more modern design with a higher top speed, greater range, and a heavier bomb load; however, it was also more difficult to fly, with heavy control forces and poor formation-flying characteristics. Popular opinion among aircrews and general staffs tended to favor the B-17's rugged qualities above all other considerations in the European Theater. The placement of the B-24's fuel tanks throughout the upper fuselage and its lightweight construction, designed to ...

Great Planes: MiG-15 - Documentary
The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15 (Russian: Микоян и Гуревич МиГ-15) was a jet fighter developed for the USSR by Artem Mikoyan and Mikhail Gurevich. The MiG-15 was one of the first successful swept-wing jet fighters, and it achieved fame in the skies over Korea, where early in the war, it outclassed all straight-winged enemy fighters in daylight. The MiG-15 also served as the starting point for development of the more advanced MiG-17 which was still an effective threat to supersonic American fighters over North Vietnam in the 1960s. The MiG-15 is believed to have been the most widely produced jet aircraft ever made, with over 12000 built. Licensed foreign production perhaps raised the total to over 18000.[1] The MiG-15 is often mentioned along with the North American F-86 Sabre in lists of the best fighter aircraft of the Korean War and in comparison with fighters of other eras.

De Havilland Canada Beaver
De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Ltd began the preliminary design of the Beaver in 1945; the prototype of which is on display at the Canada Aviation Museum. This particular Beaver was first flown in 1947 and was still in use by a Northern operator when the museum purchased it in 1980. The registration number of this Beaver, CF-FHB, is no accident: FHB are the initials of Fred H. Buller, who played a pivotal role in the Beavers design. Buller, originally a sailboat designer, later studied aeronautical engineering and stated that: "After all, what is an aircraft wing, if not a sail turned on its side?" The Beaver is a Canadian success story: it is one of the most produced Canadian designed aircraft. Almost 1700 single-engine Beavers were produced and a few hundred remain operational today. In 1987 the Engineering Centennial Board included the Beaver on the list of the top ten Canadian engineering achievements of the twentieth century. Punch Dickins, one of Canada's early bush pilots and the first to reach Canada's western Arctic coast by air, was hired by de Havilland Canada to poll bush pilots, therefore affecting the Beavers final design. Those consulted wanted a powerful, durable, rugged, easily accessible aircraft with short-takeoff-and-landing qualities. Pilots also sought a versatile aircraft with interchangeable landing gears so they could deliver goods year-round regardless of geography and weather conditions. In 2006, Vancouver's Viking Air Ltd. purchased the type ...

airboyd.tv National Archives and Records Administration - ARC Identifier 93633 Local Identifier FC-FC-4502 - Women on the Warpath, 1943 - Ford Motor Company. Willow Run From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia en.wikipedia.org The site of the plant was a farm owned by Henry Ford. He had used the farm to provide employment for youths during the summer. Ford Motor Company, like virtually all of the United States' industrial companies, directed its manufacturing output during World War II for Allied war production. The Ford Motor Company developed the Willow Run site to include an airfield and aircraft assembly facility. The plant held the distinction at the time of being the world's largest enclosed "room." At its peak, Willow Run produced 650 B-24s per month by 1944. By 1945, Ford produced 70% of the B-24s in two nine hour shifts. Pilots and crews slept on 1300 cots waiting for the B-24s to roll off the assembly line at Willow Run. Ford produced half of the 18000 total B-24s at Willow Run. The B-24 holds the distinction of being the most produced heavy bomber in history.

Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird - The World's Fastest Jet
The Lockheed SR-71 was an advanced, long-range, Mach 3.36 strategic reconnaissance aircraft. The SR-71 was the fastest and highest flying production aircraft in the world. The first flight of an SR-71 took place on December 22, 1964, at Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale, California. The first SR-71 to enter service was delivered to the 4200th (later, 9th) Strategic Reconnaissance Wing at Beale Air Force Base, California, in January 1966. From the beginning of the Blackbird's reconnaissance missions over enemy territory (North Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos) in 1968, the SR-71s averaged approximately one sortie a week for nearly two years. By 1970, the SR-71s were averaging two sorties per week, and by 1972, they were flying nearly one sortie every day. On July 28, 1976, an SR-71 broke the world record for its class: an absolute speed record of 1905.81 knots (2193.17 mph, 3529.56 km/h), and an "absolute altitude record" of 85069 feet (25929 m). The SR-71 also holds the record for flying from New York to London in 1 hour 54 minutes and 56.4 seconds, set on September 1, 1974. The decision to build the Blackbird's structure using 85% titanium and 15% composite materials was a first in the aircraft industry. The advances made by Lockheed in learning to deal with this material have been used in subsequent high-speed aircraft such as most modern fighters. The Pratt & Whitney J58-P4 engines used in the Blackbird were the only military engines ever designed to operate continuously on ...

World First: 3D Printing - First Flight of Fully Printed Aeroplane (UAV/drone by Laser Sintering)
Video courtesy: New Scientist. Original article: www.newscientist.com Wonderful example of 21st technology! TRANSCRIPT: "On three, two, one ... launch!" Here in Wiltshire, engineers have just launched the first plane made entirely with a 3D printer. Jim Scanlan and his team designed and printed the aircraft in just a week. In this test, it successfully completes a ten minute flight. Jim Scanlan (Aerospace engineer - University of Southampton): "Remarkable! I am absolutely delighted. And what I am most impressed by is how close the flight characteristics are to the team's predictions". To create the plane, the team first produced a computerized design. It was fed to a 3D printer which cut up the model into ultra-thin slices. The layers were then built up from plastic powder, using a laser to carve out and fuse each one's shape. Jim Scanlan: "The novel aspect of the structure is that it is completely fastener free. In fact, all of the control surfaces have been grown in the laser printing process. So, there are no subsequent assembly operations." Jim Scanlan: "Right, yeah, to the left ..." Even moving parts are printed all at once, making it much easier to produce a plane. The process also makes it simple to tweak a design and re-print it or to create complex structures. Jim Scanlan: "It allows us to explore manufacturing geometry and techniques that are simply too expensive using other techniques. We have a geodetic structure that was used in World War Two on the Vicker's ...

Aero-TV: First Look -- The Garmin GTN 650 and GTN 750
Thu, 24 March 2011 . Let's Get The FIRST LOOK At Garmin's New Touch-Screen Enabled GTN 650 and GTN750 In advance of the public unveiling of the new Garmin GTN 650 and GTN 750, ANN's Aero-TV crews were invited to take an advance look at the latest new offerings from the wizards of Olathe, KS. It has been some 13 years since Garmin GNS 430 and GNS 530 were introduced to go on to sell some 110000 units, worldwide. While the 430 and 530 will live on for the foreseeable future, the GTN series is obviously designed to take their place in the future Garmin line-up. We had the chance to get some tutelage in the ways of the GTN 650/750 under the watchful eye of Garmin's Jim Alpiser, as the 2011 AEA Convention started to get well under way. This was a great place to get a look at Garmin's next generation of cockpit 'Magic" as the AEA Convention & Trade Show is the preeminent venue dedicated solely to the general aviation avionics industry. Not open to the public, this event's primary focus is providing avionics professionals with educational and marketing opportunities between equipment manufacturers, distributors and government-certified repair stations. The GTN 650 and GTN 750 received FAA TSO authorization in March and are STC approved on a broad model list covering most Part 23 fixed wing aircraft. The first units will be available for purchase at Lakeland, March 29 to April 3, 2011. The GTN 650 is expected to be available at a suggested retail price of $11495 and the GTN 750 ...

Lou Rawls "Tobacco Road"
Louis Allen Rawls (December 1, 1933 January 6, 2006) was an American soul, jazz, and blues singer. He was known for his smooth vocal style: Frank Sinatra once said that Rawls had "the classiest singing and silkiest chops in the singing game". Rawls released more than 70 albums, sold more than 40 million records, appeared as an actor in motion pictures and on television, and voiced-over many cartoons. He had been called "The Funkiest Man Alive". "Tobacco Road" is a song written and first recorded by John D. Loudermilk in 1960 that was a hit for The Nashville Teens in 1964 and has since become a standard across several musical genres. Originally framed as a folk song, "Tobacco Road" was semi-autobiographical tale of growing up in the rough East Durham area of Durham, North Carolina. Released on Columbia Records, it was not a hit for Loudermilk, achieving only minor chart success in Australia. Other artists, however, immediately began recording and performing the song. The confusingly-named English group The Nashville Teens' rendition was a bold effort featuring prominent piano and bass drum parts set against a dual lead vocal; fellow countryman Mickie Most produced it with the same tough-edged-pop feel that he brought to The Animals' hits. "Tobacco Road" was a trans-Atlantic pop hit in 1964, reaching number 6 on the UK singles chart and number 14 on the US singles chart. While the Teens would have further success in England, in the US "Tobacco Road" became another one-hit ...

Will Pakistan Air Force acquire J-11/Su-27SK fighter aircraft from China?
PAF s' News Section paffalcons.com J-11 (Jianji-11 or Jian-11) is a licensed copy of the Russian Sukhoi Su-27SK air-superiority fighter aircraft built by Shenyang Aircraft Corporation (SAC). The initial batches of the J-11 were identical to the single-seat Su-27SK, but the later batches had increased portion of Chinese-made components. SAC is currently developing an indigenised upgraded variant known as J-11B, which was based on the J-11/Su-27SK airframe but equipped with Chinese-developed avionics and weapon suite. China has been able to duplicate the SU-27, the most lethal bird in the air. The Chinese version of the Sukhoi SU-27 (Flanker) is now called the J-11. The Su-30MKI (another derivative of the SU-27), a heavy-class fighter, with the F-16C Block 50, F-16C Block 60, and F-18E/F aircraft is largely theoretical. The American Fighters belong to conceptually different fighter classes and have their own, preferential areas of combat employment. The F-18E/F version, owing to the F/A-18 basic design, features a more pronounced strike-mission capability, while in terms of dimensions, this aircraft is close to the Russian fighter. The Pakistanis should be tight lipped about the new Chinese fighter and whether Pakistan is going to acquire any. The Chinese in a sweet deal of $2.5 Billion with the Russians purchased the right to produce the SK-27. The J-11 is a third generation aircraft. Now, the efforts in China and Pakistan are underway to move to the air-forces to the ...

Story Of The Black Cats
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia en.wikipedia.org The Consolidated PBY Catalina was an American flying boat of the 1930s and 1940s produced by Consolidated Aircraft. It was one of the most widely used multi-role aircraft of World War II. PBYs served with every branch of the US military and in the air forces and navies of many other nations. In the United States Army Air Forces and later in the USAF their designation was the OA-10, while Canadian-built PBYs were known as the Canso. During World War II, PBYs were used in anti-submarine warfare, patrol bombing, convoy escorts, search and rescue missions (especially air-sea rescue), and cargo transport. The PBY was the most successful aircraft of its kind; no other flying boat was produced in greater numbers. The last active military PBYs were not retired from service until the 1980s. Even today, over seventy years after its first flight, the aircraft continues to fly as an airtanker in aerial firefighting operations all over the world. The initialism of "PBY" was determined in accordance with the US Navy aircraft designation system of 1922; PB representing "Patrol Bomber" and Y being the code used for the aircraft's manufacturer, Consolidated Aircraft. Night attack and naval interdiction Several squadrons of PBY-5As and -6As in the Pacific theater were specially modified to operate as night convoy raiders. Outfitted with state-of-the-art magnetic anomaly detection gear and painted flat black, these "Black Cats" attacked ...

This was filmed between 4th and 11th April 2011. I had the pleasure of visiting El Teide.
Spain´s highest mountain @(3718m) is one of the best places in the world to photograph the stars and is also the location of Teide Observatories, considered to be one of the world´s best observatories.
The goal was to capture the beautiful Milky Way galaxy along with one of the most amazing mountains I know El Teide. I have to say this was one of the most exhausting trips I have done. There was a lot of hiking at high altitudes and probably less than 10 hours of sleep in total for the whole week. Having been here 10-11 times before I had a long list of must-see locations I wanted to capture for this movie, but I am still not 100% used to carrying around so much gear required for time-lapse movies.
A large sandstorm hit the Sahara Desert on the 9th April (http://bit.ly/g3tsDW) and at approx 3am in the night the sandstorm hit me, making it nearly impossible to see the sky with my own eyes.
Interestingly enough my camera was set for a 5 hour sequence of the milky way during this time and I was sure my whole scene was ruined. To my surprise, my camera had managed to capture the sandstorm which was backlit by Grand Canary Island making it look like golden clouds. The Milky Way was shining through the clouds, making the stars sparkle in an interesting way. So if you ever wondered how the Milky Way would look through a Sahara sandstorm, look at 00:32.

In February 2011, the five times world champions Fred Fugen and Vince Reffett from Soul Flyers were invited to Melbourne to provide advanced 3D coaching to some of Australia's leading Skydive athlete talent.
The goal of the Training camp and the production were:
1. To increase participation in our sport.
2. Provide greater pathways for our elite athletes.
Hopefully this video will give all that view it a different perspective of what skydiving can offer. Hopefully it will provoke some necessity to learn to fly in our wonderful three-dimensional environment- The Sky!

I sought out to capture the electric radiance of Los Angeles at night and paint a portrait of my city.
It took me 6 months of on and off shooting to finish this project.
Shooting time lapses is a labor of love and a study in patience.
This video is dedicated to the memory of my Grandmother. She spent most of her life bettering the lives of others and was exemplary of what humanity can be in its purest form.

Clark) who would be asked to develop an engine for the Arrow when other models became unavailable. The film also boasted cameos by Michael Moriarty as US President Dwight D.
