Santa Cruz de la Sierra, commonly known as Santa Cruz, is the capital of the Santa Cruz department in eastern Bolivia and the largest city in the country. Situated on the river Piray in Eastern Bolivia, the city of Santa Cruz and its metropolitan area are home to over 70% of the population of the department and it is one of the fastest growing cities in the world.
The city was first founded in 1561 by Spanish explorer Ñuflo de Chavez about 200 km east of its current location, and was moved several times until it was finally established on the Piray River in the late 16th century. For much of its history, Santa Cruz was mostly a small outpost town, and even after Bolivia gained its independence in 1825, there was little attention from the authorities or the population in general to settle the region. It was not until after World War II and profound agrarian and land reforms that the city began to grow at a very fast pace.
Nowadays, the city is the most populated, and the Department of Santa Cruz, rank second in total population, produce nearly thirty five percent of Bolivia's gross domestic product, and receive over forty percent of all the foreign direct investment in the country. This has helped make Santa Cruz the most important business center in Bolivia and the preferred destination of migrants from all over the country.

It is bordered by Brazil to the north and east, Paraguay and Argentina to the south, Chile to the southwest, and Peru to the west.
Prior to European colonization, the Andean region of Bolivia was a part of the Inca Empire – the largest state in Pre-Columbian America. The Spanish Empire conquered the region in the 16th century. During most of the Spanish colonial period, this territory was called Upper Peru and was under the administration of the Viceroyalty of Peru, which included most of Spain's South American colonies. After declaring independence in 1809, 16 years of war followed before the establishment of the Republic, named for Simón Bolívar, on 6 August 1825. Bolivia has struggled through periods of political instability, dictatorships and economic woes.

Alicia Villarreal (born Martha Alicia Villarreal Esparza on August 31, 1971,[citation needed] in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico) is a Mexican Latin Grammy award-winning singer.
Villarreal first performed the song Mundo De Juguetes at Pipo, a local TV show her parents took her to. Her first professional performance was at a church fundraiser.
In 1995, Grupo Límite, group of Musica Grupera with her as lead singer, started touring with the more famous Grupo Bronco. Among their songs were "Acariciame", "Te Aprovechas" and "Solo Contigo". Grupo Limite released six albums altogether, including a live CD recorded in Mexico City.
In 2001, Alicia released her first solo album in the ranchera style titled Soy Lo Prohibido. It launched the single Te Quedo Grande la Yegua. In it, she sings to her man, telling him that she is too much woman for him to handle.
In 2004, after parting ways with her bandmates, she released her second solo album entitled Cuando el Corazón se Cruza. The album was produced by her current husband, Cruz Martínez, and they wrote several of the songs together. The album has garnered her several awards[citation needed].
I know that it's not cool to cruise the boardwalk in Santa Cruz,
But we had nothing better to do on a boring afternoon,
No level of sophistication could prepare me for the situation,
Now I know you don't like carnival rides,
And I know you don't like me
Let me savor every moment,
Feel the flush warm through my pores,
Let me savor every moment,
Feel the flush warm through my pores,
Crushed by your every comment
This conversation is in your court
Did I tell you that I hate your new hair,
And I'm bored to death by your stupid poetry,
And I hate the way that you take up the whole bed,
And other things you did inadvertently,
The romantic notion of a secret place is now blowing up in my face,
I'll dream of you with someone new,
But if you ever want me back... no
Let me savor every moment,
Feel the flush warm through my pores,
Let me savor every moment,
Feel the flush warm through my pores,
Crushed by your every comment,
This conversation is in your court
Leaving you took a few books of mine,
A few kitchen utensils which was fine,
But when you kept all of my friends,
Well it seems you should have asked,
Alone in the studio I wait for you to come home,
Until I realize,
I'm just pretending that love's never ending,
Oo-wee how did I lose
Talkin' about a night in Santa Cruz
Oo-wee how did I lose
Talkin' about a night in Santa Cruz
Well I came to coast from L.A.
Just to give a little music to boo me away
Hey J.J. can you play Cocaine
Do After Midnight it's all the same
Oo-wee how did I lose
Talkin' about a night in Santa Cruz
Oo-wee how did I lose
I'll tell you about the night in Santa Cruz
Well we didn't play long it booed too soon
I can't do right no matter what you do
A girl in the crowd, at the finale
Shouted at me had I even turned
Another man left 'cos he didn't stay long
I thought we had played his favorite song
Hey you, pull that weight
A soon as it's cleaned up then I'll fade away
My friends and I hope you're glad to see
Me and friends coming off the street
Play, Richard
I don't mean a man can't lose
Just stay by the night in Santa Cruz
Just stay by the night in Santa Cruz
the things we do and the things we let
between the tide and the cigarettes
all the cups we cannot sip
between our legs across our lips
all the places we will meet
between our start and our winding sheet
some we'll leave and some we'll walk
hung like thieves, we sing the cross
don't go! don't go!
all the rules we will not break
will break beside each note i make
between the beat and the speaker throw
what i think, where i still won’t go
don't go! don't go!
don't look at me that way
when you do what can i do
but do everything you say
from santa cruz we're drawing close
between the hems and the cuffs of clothes
all the things i cannot do
i'm thinking of more i'll do to you
and late one night on borrowed cars
we went one time, was it too far
between the headlights and engine block
between my knees, between the clock
don't go! don't go!
the things we do and the things we let
between the tide and the cigarettes
all the cups we cannot sip
Crosswed wires inspire a subtle sting
Stop when you've spoken a mouthfull
Stop when you choke it down
Sold when you have expensive tastes
I bit this silver tounge
It tasted bittersweet
And if I'm lost for words I'll say it one more time
I told 10,000 stories the one I heard last night
They'll hunt for the weakest one
And what have you, and what have you
There's smoke theres fire inside of me
I tried to put it out
I should've let it breathe
And I shut my eyes yet still I see
What are you running from?
And if I'm lost for words I'll say it one more time
I told 10,000 stories the one I heard last night
They'll meet under the boardwalk; they'll meet about midnight
Whisper sweet sweet words together
And then they'll say good bye
They tought no one could understand
They both had problems afraid to make demands
Trapped in a world they did not choose
Like a spirit caught on a runway
all the days, spent in santa cruz,
were the days, (the) best days of my youth,
´cause i grabbed the chances i saw
and i knew i would come back...no more!
´cause the waves, rolled onto the sand...
it was luck on the palm of my hand...
and the sun, was shining all day
and i knew i would go back...no more
to the one i was before...
...santa cruz...i love you!
...santa cruz...i love you!
I would surf, as long as i liked,
watch the birds, (or) be riding my bike!
then at night, crashed out on the floor
i would say that i´d come back no more...
i was free, i was all on my own
i was me, i was where i belong...
inner peace, made me feel so strong
and i knew i would go back no more,
to the one i was before...
it's amazing the kind of impact a single decision makes!
beside the ocean Santa Cruz
i face the pathway i must choose
the city lights they seem so bright
my eyes are dazzled by the night
the crashing surf, the ocean air
the cypress bough, the morning glare
can my heart breathe beneath this load
the fog on San Andreas road
my heart, sympathy
broken life surrender me
suggestions
open to your will
blue skies paradise
fragile as a great surprise
does your love move within me still
my hopes and dreams
all washed ashore
they never reached the lighthouse door
abandoned ships
with tattered sails, buried treasure,
