Black Brow Albatros Colony at Westpoint
Black Brow Albatros Colony at Westpoint Island. West Point Island (originally known as Albatross Island; Spanish: Isla Remolinos) is one of the Falkland Islands, lying west of West Falkland. It has an area of slightly less than 15 km² and is run as a sheep farm by Lily and Roddy Napier. Like many locations around the Falkland Islands, West Point was a popular site for slaughtering seals and penguins for oil, at the turn of the 19th century. Literal overkill helped to end this industry in the area. The island was established as a farm in the 1860s, by the Napier family, ancestors of the current owner. Wildlife on West Point includes rockhopper penguins, black-browed albatrosses and Commerson's dolphins. The Felton Plant, which was named after the current owner's great uncle who discovered it, also grows here.] It is fairly rare in the Falkland Islands, being found only in a few locations such as Tea Island, but there is quite a lot of it here. The island gardens have a fairly wide selection of introduced plants including roses, foxgloves, daisies, red hot pokers etc. Unusually for the Falklands, there are also a few trees. Other stands of trees can be found at Hill Cove on West Falkland and Carcass Island.

The Falkland Islands
Recorded February 18, 2009. The Falkland Islands are an archipelago in the South Atlantic Ocean, located 300 miles from the coast of Argentina. They consist of two main islands, East Falkland and West Falkland, together with 776 smaller islands. Stanley, on East Falkland, is the capital. The islands are a self-governing Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom. Stanley (formerly known as "Port Stanley") is the capital and only true city in the Falkland Islands. It is located on the isle of East Falkland, on a north-facing slope, south of Stanley Harbour, in one of the wettest parts of the islands. As of the 2006 census, the city had a population of 2115. The video begins aboard the Star Princess as we sail into Stanley Harbor in the Falkland Islands. Next there is a tour of the town of Stanley complete with comments from our colorful local guide. Next is a visit to the penguin colony at Gypsy Cove. The video then concludes with our sail away from the Falkland Islands aboard the Star Princess. You can see more of Gypsy Cove in my video @ www.youtube.com From: timvp.com

Falkland Islands
The Falkland Islands (Spanish: Islas Malvinas) are an archipelago in the South Atlantic Ocean, located about 250 nautical miles from the coast of mainland South America. The archipelago consists of East Falkland, West Falkland and 776 lesser islands. The capital, Stanley, is on East Falkland. The islands are an internally self-governing British Overseas Territory, with the United Kingdom responsible for defence and foreign affairs. Ever since the re-establishment of British rule in 1833, Argentina has claimed sovereignty. In pursuit of this claim, which is rejected by the islanders, Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands in 1982. This precipitated the two-month-long undeclared Falklands War between Argentina and the United Kingdom and resulted in the defeat and withdrawal of the Argentine forces. It is currently on the United Nations list of Non-Self-Governing Territories.

Anthem of Falkland Islands Karaoke Himno de las Islas Malvinas.
Song of the Falklands is the unofficial anthem of the Falkland Islands (God Save the Queen being official). It was written in the 1930s by Christopher Lanham, a Hampshire Schoolteacher, while working on West Falkland."Song of the Falklands" was written in the 1930's by Christopher Lanham, a schoolteacher from Hampshire in the United Kingdom working on West Falkland. "Song of the Falklands" has since become something of an unofficial anthem. (The official anthem of the British colony is that of the United Kingdom.)The Falkland Islands is also claimed by Argentina and, as a claimed province of Argentina, the Argentine government has granted it an anthem entitled "Marcha de las Malvinas" (Falkland Islands March). In my heart there's a call for the isles far away Where the wind from the Horn often wanders at play. Where the kelp moves and swells to the wind and the tide And penguins troop down from the lonely hillside. Those isles of the sea are calling to me The smell of the camp fire a dear memory. Though far I may roam, some day I'll come home To the islands, the Falklands, the isles of the sea. ----------------------------------- There's a camp house down yonder I'm longing to see, Though it's no gilded palace it's there I would be. Just to be there again I would race o'er the foam, For that lone house so far is my own home sweet home. Those isles of the sea are calling to me The smell of the camp fire a dear memory. Galloway gives his opinion on Falkland Islands
4TheRecord.org Goerge Galloway tells us what he thinks about the Falkland Island. ----- Falklands' Island's Explained ----- The Falkland Islands (pronounced French: îles Malouines, Spanish: Islas Malvinas) are an archipelago in the South Atlantic Ocean, located about 300 miles (260 nmi; 480 km) from the coast of mainland South America, 700 miles (610 nmi; 1100 km) from mainland Antarctica, and 3800 miles (3300 nmi; 6100 km) from Africa. The two main islands are East Falkland and West Falkland, and there are 776 smaller islands. The islands are a self-governing Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom. Stanley, on East Falkland, is the capital. Ever since the re-establishment of British rule in 1833 Argentina has claimed sovereignty. This precipitated the two-month-long undeclared Falklands War between Argentina and the United Kingdom and resulted in the defeat and withdrawal of the Argentine forces. Since the war, there has been strong economic growth in both fisheries and tourism, as well as increased speculation on the amount of oil in the area. (Source Wikipedia)

It is an internally self-governing British Overseas Territory, with the United Kingdom responsible for defence and foreign affairs. Song of the Falklands is the unofficial anthem of the Falkland Islands (God Save the Queen being official). It was written in the 1930s by Christopher Lanham, a Hampshire Schoolteacher, while working on West Falkland. Lyrics: In my heart there's a call for the isles far away Where the wind from the Horn often wanders at play. Where the kelp moves and swells to the wind and the tide And penguins troop down from the lonely hillside. CHORUS: Those isles of the sea are calling to me The smell of the camp fire a dear memory. Though far I may roam, some day I'll come home To the islands, the Falklands, the isles of the sea. There's a camp house down yonder I'm longing to see, Though it's no gilded palace it's there I would be. Just to be there again I would race o'er the foam, For that lone house so far is my own home sweet home. Chorus Now we're off to the Falklands, so wild and so free, Where there's tussock and kelp and the red diddle-dee, And the wild rugged beauty that thrills more than me Is bred in the bones on the isles of the sea.

Argentina UK FALKLAND ISLANDS RUNNING DISPUTE BRIEFLY from '1592 to 1965' Kirchner
Argentina UK FALKLAND ISLANDS RUNNING DISPUTE BRIEFLY from 1592 to1965 (Full Video Credit - Al Jazeera) "The Falkland Islands/Islas Malvinas had been under British ADMINISTRATION since JANUARY 1833, when the United Kingdom re-established sovereignty over the islands which, AT THAT TIME, HOUSED AN ARGENTINE SETTLEMENT. Argentina has claimed the Falklands to be part of their territory ever since" ★FALKLAND ISLANDS RUNNING DISPUTE BRIEFLY FROM 1592 to 1965★ *The British are the first to RECORD the existence of the islands. John Davis sights them in 1592. John Strong is the first to land, in 1690. He names the islands after the treasurer of the navy, Viscount Falkland, and then sails on. The islands remain uninhabited until the French found a colony at Port Louis on East Falkland in 1764 (they call the islands les Îles Malouines because the expedition arrives from St Malo). In the following year a British expedition under John Byron (grandfather of Lord Byron the poet) establishes a fort at Port Egmont on the tiny Saunders island north of West Falkland. Byron claims the islands for Britain (unaware that the French are on East Falkland, though this would not have deterred him). Soon the British acquire new neighbours. The French cede their settlement on East Falkland to Spain. Spain, adapting the French name to become las Islas Malvinas, is the first nation to take settlement on the islands seriously. Spanish forces make repeated efforts to expel the British from Saunders ...
